I am new on your channel, and by far have not watched all your videos, so sorry if you made a video about this. But I just seed a load of lettuce, and pick off the leaves. I don't take out the whole plant and the leaves keep growing. When it goes to warm for lettuce, I let some of them go to seed, and take the seeds from it. Works just fine for me, but I don't have to feed a whole family. Much love, and thank you for another very interesting video! ❤

So exciting that you're starting a new balcony garden! I would use this year as your experimental year :) choose some easy and delicious or beautiful plants that you will love and see what matters to you over the year...think of whether you want the space for growing loads of plants or would you prefer to just have it as a chill zone? And most of all, have fun!😀

Messy balcony gardener here. Make sure you keep enough space to get around.. (😂I nearly needed wings on mine last year.) If you have a neighbour that has their balcony on same side, maybe they can tell you about long there is how much son/heat, or that it stays mainly in the shade. Mine goes hot as a desert, and most plants do not care for that. So I am trying to find the right shade. I did put up a shade cloth, but that nearly killed the sun loving plants, and many seedlings did not come up.
Just know out front not all will work out, you will have good and bad years, and some things just will not work no matter what you try. Then you know it is not always you, and you may not be as disappointed if something goes wrong. It happens to everybody, I would say.
And there is loads of information to find online, it is wise to find more then one person telling you about a certain plant. Some are very enthousiastic, but give you the wrong information, or lack giving something important to know. It is confusing me more often, how people can give oposite advice. Then I just use my best common sense on it, and see what happens. It is like what works for the one, doesn't seem to work for the other.
If you grow in pots, buckets and tubs, (make holes in the bottom for drainage), you have to fertilize more often, and make sure you know what plant can handle how much frost in winter. There are different ways to protect more sensitive plants in winter from freezing.
And think out front what you like to get out of it, (medicinal) herbs, food, flowers, there are so many things out there, it can drive you nuts, and then you buy far too many seeds.
For one like me it is wise to buy seedstations with a wateringsystem, I now have some that I can put a load of water on the bottom, and forget about it for a few days, since I am a bad plantmother. It holds a thing in the bottom, with a cloth that you can use multiple times, that will water the seedlings for days, but makes sure they don't get too much, and rot away.
The main thing though, is what Balconia Garden said, HAVE FUN!!! 😀Just the learning about it all is fun to me, and the mistakes/failures just come with it, to learn some more.
      Much love to you! ❤
