Morris Minor 1000 - Speedometer Drive Repair

So, today we attempt to repait/fix a speedometer on the Moggie.
Trying to work out what the problem is. Trying to fix it and ultimately failing.

have you tried attaching an electric drill to the gearbox end of the cable to determine if it is really a problem at the speedo end?
If it is nor and the problem really is at the speedo end, it cannot be too difficult to hard solder( braze a brass extention as you surmised? The braze would cover the split needed to fit the brass bush in place.
