Same here! It's starting off very promising and i'm one of you guys that didn't got me THAT hype from ep 1. Later with Igris and all made it more enjoyable and starting to understand the hype around it. From what I saw from the pre-screeing clips for ep 2 the fights are gonna look EVEN better/cleaner. Plus the lastest trailer showed that clearly the budget went into season 2 more since we gonna have alot more action going on from here on out. The story is the other thing that I'm curious about because 2nd half of s1 was mainly set up for what's to come in s2. I'm excited overall let's see what they COOKING for us!

Exactly, and and Wolf Assasin is a title that increases his dmg against beast-type enemies, that's why he changed to it when fighting with the ice bears (I don't think the beast-typing was that much implied in season 1).

(I'm a manhwa reader but obv no spoilers) Season 1 was definitely a lot of setup to get to where we're at now. Season 2 should be pretty enjoyable now that we're getting more into the story and mysteries. I'm really loving the animation and everything for Season 2 so far (I watched the Solo Leveling movie which had the first 2 episodes of Season 2).

@@SteveClark_1 So I agree with what Boldcast mentioned that Season 1 had so many instances where they switched to some random exposition/side story in the middle of important plot - I hated that cause it took away from the main story. I believe the anime is following the Light Novel which prob makes it a little different than the manhwa. Regardless, I find the manhwa way more enjoyable - it was just such a great read that I ended up just binging majority of it in a few days.

@@liam1902 i agree but i do think the anime is adapting from the manhwa not the light novel i could be wrong tho. but i think readers should just let the anime be its own thing its not going to be a scene for scene copy of the novel or manhwa the fast pacing probably works better for a show format. but i wouldnt recommend this to anyone to be their first experience of solo leveling its easily the worst version of the 3 in my opinion.

@@frostyt6458 most anime adaptations do that, they just need to trim the corners to fit into episodes. thats why the story is almost always worse in anime compared to its source material because its trying to tell the same story with missing parts and the side characters feel shallow and not built up enough because its always their thoughts and conversations that get cut out coming into anime.

Yeah, it was totally unnessecary to put in that scenes in timing when the action starting to reach it's peak for newly made up scenes, thats right. But what i think is a bit untrue is that his behavior is "cheesy". Because most anime protagonists are either trying to act cool to impress or because they are on a overconfident run, aggressive provocation etc. But he acts like a real ADULT WOULD because he IS ONE. If you remember, Jin Woo is 24 years old and not a 16-18 years old high schooler trying to act like a hero he always dreamed of like in Fantasy or Isekai series. He knows the words responsibility as such and tries also to calm down the group psychologically. If you think about how episode 2 ended, he experienced that people get in panic easily, running maybe into their death at worst scenario. If he would be cheesy, he would act like a Jin Hoo or tries to say lines to make the person itself feel better through their own positive characteristics.

He's reassuring them, making them feel calmer while at the same time making a deal with them so he's free to use all his power without worrying about his secret being exposed, I see no cheese or fluff in that interaction, it accomplishes so much, so quickly.

Also 1 thing about solo leveling is the only reason it got popular and has these many fans is because of the insane artwork they put out on a weekly basis every panel is sooo beautiful to look at so majority of the solo leveling fans only like the series because of the "aura" of the main character and the aesthetics and best way to enjoy the show is to tune off ur brain and have fun.

There was only 1 cutaway scene in Season 1 I had issue with. That was the one in I think episode 6. Basically right before Jin Woo kills the 5 dudes who were planning to kill him. Right before that happens, it cuts away to three girls (in the Manhwa they play zero importance to anything, just nameless background characters with slightly more detailed designs). And they discuss false-rankers in a coffee shop. That entire cutaway scene was pointless and kind of killed the suspense that was being built up inside the dungeon.
All the other cutaway scenes to different characters explaining stuff, or setting things up, I had no issue with.

I know other people have brought up the fact that "Wolf Assassin" is a title, but just to add a bit more context. My MMO days have been gone for a bit, but iirc even though in Western MMORPGs you'd have titles, it was mostly in Eastern ones where the titles actually gave bonuses. In case it might have come off as something new the story is trying to introduce or make unique. ((Like if someone who wasn't used to video games saw him pull stuff out of his inventory and got frustrated like "How many powers does this guy have?!". Where as with context it seems more like a no-brainer.))

You asked at one point if Jinwoo gained xp while his shadows fight. While I guess it's a minor spoiler, it's just mechanics so I don't mind answering. Yes, both Jinwoo and his shadows gain xp as theyy fight. Big-picture wise, the story is a power fantasy, so both Jinwoo and his pose have to get stronger.⬅
I understand why you were distracted by the many cutaways in Season 1. It didn't bother me that much, but I sometimes found it distracting, wanting to get back to the exciting stuff which had been what was happening. Yet after the first season I decided to read the original 8 novels (which was the original source; the manhwa was an excellent adaptation). Once you have a knowledge of the whole story, those cutaways make more sense. Now I'm glad they did it that way.

One thing that I can say about the filler scenes of the side characters SJW hasn't met yet--one of the main complaints that people had about the manhwa was that it only developed SJW and the people he interacted with, so all the other characters, while they have potential to be interesting, felt really flat in comparison. I think the anime is trying to combat that by introducing them earlier and showing scenes of them throughout what they're going through, even if it doesn't interact with the main plot since it doesn't make sense for them to interact with SJW yet.

1:47 He is in a parent/guardian meeting, did they not do those when you were at school? Why are you confused or think he should be confused, he IS her guardian XD
1:59 Why would she be asking questions about her or Jinwoo's mum?
7:56, his not stupid for not recognising that Jinwoo is a high ranker, no matter how you look or act, if you're E rank you're weak. How physically strong you look does not match your rank, if it did, majority of buff men would be high ranks and all of the skinny smaller men, and majority of women would be low ranks, but thats not the case. The S ranks brother who was killed by Jinwoo was very built, yet he was only a C rank, he'd get easily killed by most people in this team, apart from the e rank and the c ranks, all the B ranks, even though they looked like fodder in this, could have EASILY beaten him. So unless he sees Jinwoo doesn't something a E rank couldn't do, he has no reason to suspect otherwise. Jinwoo's body changed due to other reasons, its not as simple as "he is a high rank so his taller and more built" if it was, we would not be seeing any of the women in high ranks, who don't look taller or buffer than average but they don't, they look like a normal hight and build for women.
I do like your commentary overall though.
For example I don't see it as cheesy Jinwoo is 24 years old, not a teenager, so him patting her head is him comforting him and being responsible adult, for a 17 year old girl, a minor. His not pretending to be cool.

When I started reading Solo Leveling, I expected it to be great, not necessarily in all aspects, maybe in one, maybe in multiple. And it had great action, great art style, and great style for characters, monsters, and backgrounds. It's an okay power system, an okay story, with cool characters. Easily understandable why it is so popular. Is it my favorite manhwa? No. But I did enjoy it, and that's what I wanted and expected the most from it: to enjoy it.

@@SteveClark_1 "Medalist" is distributed on Japanese terrestrial TV and Disney, and all episodes of season 1 have already been completed, and it seems that all that remains is to be broadcast.
The first episode is a thorough one, with a brief explanation of the basic techniques of figure skating.
The content of "Solo Leveling" is a copy of other works, and its limitations are apparent. In Japan, there have been many anime with the strongest protagonists for a long time.
There have been a ton of works in which the strongest protagonists become the strongest, such as "The Irregular at Magic High School" and "I Want to Become the Strongest in the Shadows!".
A-1 Pictures, the Japanese animation company that produces "Solo Leveling", has high quality at the beginning, but it becomes like a picture-story show from the middle. It is common for this company to include a summary around episode 5-6, take a break, and then fall apart.
