Great episode Uncanny Omar! Love the art in Okko - hopefully I'll be able to get the soft cover collection someday. Here are a few of my Hidden Gems: 1. Iron Wolf - Fires of the Revolution (Chaykin, Mignola, P Craig Russell) 2. Fafhrd & The Gray Mouser (Chaykin, Mignola, P Craig Russell) 3. Drifter (Image Comics - unbelievable!) 4. Nameless (Grant Morrison, Image Comics - also unbelievable!) 5. Trillium (Jeff Lemire) 6. Black Monday Murders (Hickman, Image Comics) 7. Victories (Michael Avon Oeming, Dark Horse) 8. Weird World (original 1970s series with the airbrush art, Marvel Comics) 9. The Olympians (George O'Conner) 10. Moorcock's Elric: Stormbringer by P Craig Russell 11. Moorcock's Corum: Mike Baron & Mignola 12. Starstruck (M. Kaluta) 13. Zero (Ales Kot, Image Comics) 14. Prophet (Brandon Graham, Image Comics) 15. Redlands (Image Comics, most horrifying comic I've ever read)
Omar, first of all..¡¡GREAT VIDEO!! Lots of memories from 'Legion of Night'. Loved your selecting 'Wrinkles', one of the best graphic novels to ever see the light from my fellow countryman Paco Roca. If you enjoyed it, I strongly suggest you try to get 'La Casa', one of the few comics in my 30 years of collecting that has moved me to the point of making me cry. And, speaking of things that you should take a look from the Old World: 'Lupus' and 'Blue Pills' (literal translation from the Spanish title, I don't know how has it been renamed there) from Frederik Peeters are a MUST (in fact, almost everything from him is a MUST). In relation to 'Okko', you should try to find 'Kogaratsu', to me, the BEST graphic novel about japanese culture to ever be produced in the French-Belgium comic theatre, period. Alex Alice is one of those names that instantly pops to mind when thinking about the best Europe can offer: check out his take on 'Siegfried' (yeah, that Siegfried, the one from the Nibelung saga) or 'Castle in the Stars' (again, literal translation from Spanish) a GORGEOUS book painted in a way that it seems an Hayao Miyazaki movie. I could continue, but let's leave at that. LOVE your channel. LOVE your spark. KEEP GOING LIKE THAT!!!!
Hey Omar. Still have my Legion of Night #1 and 2 that I bought off the rack back in the day. Always loved them and Whilce Portacio is an awesome artist. Loved him on punisher, xfactor and xmen.
Earth, fire, wind, water, and emptiness is the recipe for Captain Planet 2021. Got a couple of horror hidden gems for you: Red Mother and Redlands. Great video, my man!
I like when you recommend OOP books. It gives us a heads up what to look out for at shops or at libraries. I think Jim Mahfood's Grrl Scouts is a hidden gem. I don't hear anyone talk about that.
KYLE STARKS IS HILARIOUS...and he uses all the pop references from our past Omar!! Wrinkles kinda messed me up...i took care of my grandma at the end and she had alzheimer's...its REALLY good but it was sad
Just added Wrinkles to my wishlist, thanks ! Recently I read "Wika" by Day and Ledroit. The steampunk art is incredible with so so many details. The HC is coming out March 16 but you can see previews of the art online.
Great segment! A hidden gem for me (or two, rather) is the Half Past Danger series (1 and 2) by Stephen Mooney from IDW. I don't own the hardcovers, but I read them both on Comixology unlimited. It has beautiful artwork, femme fatales, and is a combination of Indiana Jones and Jurassic Park. Very fun series and I can't wait until a third series comes out.
An indie hidden gem for me is Henchgirl by Kristen Gudsnuk. One of the most fun reads I've had in a while and I don't hear it talked about often. Silly and fun with a lot of heart.
Legion of the Night was a title I always wanted to read. Saw it advertised in books back in the '90s, but I didn't have an LCS anywhere nearby. When I finally got them last year, I was pretty disappointed. I think that if I'd seen it when I was a kid, I'd have been floored by Portacio's art, but my tastes have apparently changed significantly since then.
I forgot about the Dead of Winter book. That was my first premium board game that my wife bought me as a present. I will definitely need to pick that up.
Once again Omar delivers !! I added Legion of Night to my list coincidentally you mentioned Steve Gerber who is one of my favorite writers Man Thing is close to my psyche and frame of mind these days , Gerber lead a tragic life with many painful moments. Wrinkles looks incredible but it is too close to home and I am frightened by Alsheimers and it’s implications if my loved ones suffered from it and I had to witness thier demise I would go completely insane . FAVOR- please consider the portfolio of Chris Ware and his works he lurks in the Wrinkles territory and is artist and writer at the same time you can laugh and cry all in one page :-)
Thank you so much for the kind words. Yes, I hate that Gerber went through so much on life. I talked about Rusty Brown as one of my favorite reads of 2020. So I do need to read more.
Yes there was a death wish remake, with Bruce Willis. The less said about that, the better. Another great segment, with every book having something to offer. That legion of night looks very interesting. Okko I've known about but will wait for a hopeful hc. Wrinkles was so successful that it became an award winning animated film back in 2011. Check it out if you haven't already Omar. Lastly, appreciating the additional editing flair with the PIP (picture in picture) mode. Good job as always.
I love these vids! A little mixed feelings because I want to buy everything and can’t, but man you’ve introduced some great stories to myself and others. You’re incredible, Omar! Algorithm gang:)
Not sure whether you could call it a hidden gem but it certainly goes under the radar when compared to other vertigo comics n that's DMZ. Absolutely hooked on that from start to finish. Don't understand why it doesn't get much love
Nice list. I haven't heard of these before so thank you. I just picked up the Strantium Dog Destruction files from my LCS. I'd consider these non-manga and non-American comics hidden gems.
@@NearMintCondition I didn't know that, I thought you were just reading Dredd. I haven't heard you talk about Strantium Dog or maybe missed that you have. Have your read Slaine, nemesis the warlock or Rogue Troopers?
I’ve been reading the hardcover bind-up of Sirens by George Perez. I’d give the artwork a 6 out of 5 (it’s stunning artwork) and the story 4 out of 5. The story jumps around a little, going from different time periods and places. But that said, I’m really loving it!
If you like European style samurai stories... check out: Kogaratsu Sadly, you won't find it in English, but since you don't mind reading in Spanish, it should be no problem for you!
Blue in Green is not mały talked about enough. It's a musical existencial horror, that kind of feels like the evil mirror of Daytripper! It's by Ram V, mainly known for These Savage Shores. I usually find horror really boring, but that book made me feel physically cold!
I need The Legion of Night in my collection! This segment is good. Have you ever tried Elmer by Gerry Alanguilan? If not, I'll let you have the privilege of reading it for the first time.
UGHHHHHHHH OKKO! That one hurts. I bought water a long time ago, I didn't know about the complete collection and it was a period I couldn't afford much. I love, love comics but this small window for some of these books kill me. I hope they bring this back. Fun list overall though, that last one really looked interesting.
@@NearMintCondition Things I say for all the books I have missed out on. Gunsmith Cats (missing first one), Lone wolf and Cub, Ah My Goddess, and so on and so on...ugh.

Totally keep this segment going. They are brilliant and full of gems I’d never heard about. Now, where the heck will I find The Complete Okko!? 😁
