    The Recording Academy of the United States awarded this song a "Grammy" in 2014 for "best arrangement, instrumental, or acapella". The category had been amended with "or acapella" so Pentonix could be nominated. They have since won two more, and just received a "Star" on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The line-up has stayed the same since 2011, with one change in the bass voice. Before 2017 Avi Kaplan was the bass voice. He is now enjoying a solo career. Matt Sallee is the bass after 2017 (you saw him in "Shallow"). Kevin Olusola is the beatboxer/cello player/ tenor (and many other talents!). Scott Hoying is the blond baritone. He takes the bass line when Avi or Matt is singing, and has a powerful range. Kirstin Maldonado is the lovely mezzo soprano, with some Broadway experience, and new mother. Mitch Grassi is the owner of the amazing counter-tenor voice that leaves people speechless.

      Nice and very good description of the band.
      Only the spelling of one name was wrong, it's Kirstin (you can look her chanel up, Kirstin TM). Pronounced like bursting without the g.
      Or, in her early years (when remember PTX started she was 19), she was going by her nickname Kirstie (pronounced like thirsty). Nowadays she prefers Kirstin, her inner circle still call her Kirstie.
      Greetings from Germany

    Avi has a reputation for Blowing Out speakers in concerts, his low notes are sooooo low! I really think that they come right from his toes.!

    This Is the song that got me started with Pentatonix. My daughter (about the same age as The Trio, the 3 main singers, Scott, Kirstin, and Mitch) sent it to me several years back, and I remembered it during the pandemic lockdown. It really brought my spirits up, and I started looking for more by them. Yes, the edits on PTX videos are great. Everything PTX does, from the choices of who sings what parts to the final touches on the videos to the choreography choices in their live shows, is in service to the music.

    You need to check out some of their originals, such as Be My Eyes or Love Again. Love Again is an EDM vibe and sooo good! Avi and Kevin!!!

    Amazingly this was recorded in Kevin and Avi's apartment shortly after they were dumped by Sony ( they won a recording contract with the company as a prize for winning the Sing Off competition for acapella groups). Sony felt they couldn't figure out how to profitably promote such a group. The group was running low on money so sunk some $400 into supplies and equipment, made the video and sent it off to a start-up production company who offered to do the post production either for free...or for peanuts. They won a Grammy for this marvelous piece. Sony eventually made a new contract with them, signing them up with Madison Gate, a lesser franchise of theirs. After PTX's constant success rate kept climbing, the Sony parent company signed them up.

    Yes to Love Again and also their 90’s Dance Medley (live from the Hollywood Bowl is awesome because it shows how perfect they are live), Can’t Hold Us for some rap vibes and their Evolution of Michael Jackson to showcase their one-of-a-kind talents for arranging, one-take performance perfection and vocal stamina. Yes, Kevin is 🤯in sooooo many ways.

    Kevin Olusola, the beat boxer here is incredible talent. He has his own solo channel using loops/layers to build up on cello, beatbox and voice. Would highly recommend his cover of Down.

    If you like the vibe of this one, I suggest checking out one of their original songs 'Love Again', it is similar in it is a very edm sounding track and it's friggan *amazing* what they do. Also check out another of their grammy award winning songs...their cover of Dance of the Sugarplum Fairy from the Nutcracker. A song with no words sung by a group with no instruments! Also be prepared to get a Mitch Slap from hell!

    This was from 2013, still early in their career. They weren't able to get a studio to record it so the sound was recorded in the kitchen of one of their apartments and they recorded the video themselves in a closet. They do work with great sound and video editors. If you want to hear how it sounds with no post-production, here's a link to a private performance where they aren't using mics. ruclips.net/video/tw4YCsHXKgI/видео.html

      I was also going to post that one, along with one more. That one was recorded in a backroom of some commercial business, you can clearly see the bathroom behind and to your right of PTX, that's no big deal, but it was recorded on a cell phone as they said there were no mics, so it's hard to hear some parts, especially the bass and the beatboxing. The other one I'm going to leave was recorded as part of Hollywood Bowl 2022 concert, it is I believe an official recording as it was done through the sound system, so the sound is excellent. This song has so many part where people say "no way the did that with their voice", I do like to recommend both (even if you just watch it for yourself, or react to it that's up to you), but I do think it would do you good to see both, that way it will remove all doubt forever about anything you hear from them. Because if you believe the did this, then you can believe anything they do. I've seen both of your PTX reactions, and you are doing a great job. Now I will shut up, here's the other link. ruclips.net/video/a8PZ7_KMGM4/видео.html

    Great reaction. Pentaholics don’t mind if you pause and talk about the video. We have seen all these videos hundreds of times. We like to see how you react to it. I think in general people don’t like when parts of the video are skipped or cut out. Reactors often have to put a filter over the video to obscure it. You should do one of their Evolution of… videos.

    Enjoyed your reaction to this Grammy winning arrangement! It's quite a change from Hallelujah, isn't it?
    There are 7 Daft Punk songs included in this mashup: Technologic, One More Time, Get Lucky, Digital Love, Harder-Better-Faster-Stronger, Television Rules the Nation, and Around the World.
    Question: I know you said you had to edit this several times, so I would assume you tried without the text overlay but with the opacity turned down, and without the opacity turned down but including the text overlay? For me, both at once seemed a little much (thankfully I'm very familiar with the original video), but I know the RUclips copyright bots are vicious fiends, and just wanted to make sure you'd already tried both changes individually without the combination.

    • @Azphelios
      @Azphelios  Год назад +1

      Yea it was very suprising and so good!
      About the overlay, yea it was not the best solution, pentatonix is the first band/group where I had huge issues with it.
      Especially the first one gave me a big headache, I did re-edit it several times to make it work but it failed over and over and as inexperienced as I am/was at this point I couldnt find a better solution.
      However now I know a couple different things, which I will use to make it a much better experience in the future, sorry for the trouble!
      And thank you!😄

      @Badger77722 Год назад

      @@Azphelios Pentatonix's record company (Sony Music Entertainment, aka SME) is pretty notorious for being especially stringent about copyright infringement, and it often takes a combination of effects to enable a reactor to get the video past their blocks. Oddly, it's almost always the video that is blocked - the audio doesn't seem to be a problem for them, which is really weird, since that's what their copyright should be on. But whatever you need to do to get it past them won't bother the Pentatholics - I just wanted to suggest trying each effect separately in case you hadn't already done that. And if you've got something that works consistently, you're ahead of the game!
