Shang Chi has the most satisfying fight scenes I've seen in a long time. No shaky cams, no rapid editing, no random slo mo; you can clearly see every punch and every spin and there's a wonderful rhythm to it as well. Absolutely gorgeous.
No dark screnes like Eternals either
Shang Abi*
because simu liu is an actual martial art practicer and do he's own stunt. thats why they dont need shaky cam to hide actor/stunt double face.
@@aberizal8022 The shaky cam isn't even really to hide the faces of stunt doubles - too many filmmakers think it's an immersive piece of cinematic language (student filmmakers are told to not use it under any circumstances for obvious reasons)
Edit just to add: Shang-Chi DOES use shaky cam on occasion but that's purely to emphasise the force of movement (e.g. in the battle between Shang-Chi and Wenwu) - THAT is masterful and tasteful use of shaky cam, rather than "hee hoo gonna make the camera shake during combat and chase scenes for immersion"
I mean, there's enough shaky can when it makes sense, but not oppressively shaky.
I’ve watched Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan films and seeing Shang-Chi is a masterpiece when it comes to martial arts and fights scenes. it’s a 10/10.
The fight choreography in this is one of the best out of the MCU movies.

I agree with you 100%
Sadly the fight choreographer died recently.
People seem to forget that he also knows small scale air bending he learned from his aunt
And his mom too
Nah but that’s because he was empowered by the dragon that why his mother wasn’t able to use it outside and she died
Some ppl start bending air after eating raw Broccoli.
@@straykidsenthusiast His mother gave up her powers where she married his dad and left Tao lo. I do think that Shang and his sister might have something in their genetics though
@@lovemomo550 thats what i said she wasnt in ta lao and shes not near the dragon hence why she couldnt use her powers
I dont know if anyone else noticed, but the way he used the rings in comparison to his father is a very beautiful contrast of efficiency. And I thought it was that small detail that meant a lot, comparing the characters.
I noticed that when Shang chi's mother fought his dad the first time her martial arts style was more calm and when she had the rings the energy had a steady flow. This could be due to her having the dragons magic as well as her mindset. When WenWu uses the rings the energy crackles and his fighting style is also more aggressive than hers.
@@damionluna4426 when Wenwu uses the rings its blue aswell but when Shang or his mother used it, it's gold
@@user-ww9pd2rz4e yeah I think that is connected as well since when it's blue it crackles kinda like lightning but when it's gold it's flow is more calm but it could just be because of the fact Shang and his mother were also using the dragons magic
@@damionluna4426 Shang has his mothers elegant style, they both took the rings in almost the same way, can't wait for more
@@user-ww9pd2rz4e same i love how mysterious they kept the rings true power so far
I hope they Recast and reintroduce Ironfist with the Shang Chi Sequel. Ironfist definitely deserved better and would love to see him face off against Shang Chi. And who knows maybe Shang Chi might unlock more of the rings abilities (if they expand on the powers of the rings)
I hope in the sequel there is a scene where Shang chi practices with the rings and see's what they can do
They could honestly even establish Kun Lun as one of these other realms like Ta Lo it would work!
Yes!! I personally loved the Netflix series so I wouldn’t mind seeing Finn Jones reprise the role. Either way Danny Rand would be excellent alongside Shang Chi
No
@@GeorgeRadcliffe Please. No. That dude refused to train for fight scenes unlike Simu Liu who did so much effort in his fight scenes and establishing a proper martial artist in the MCU. Seeing a new Danny Rand that's committed to how Simu was to Shang-Chi should be the thing to do imo.
6:03 This scene is just beautiful
I love how Wenwu and Shang-Chi have vastly different fighting styles, despite both of them wielding the same weapon (five of the ten rings)
Wenwu uses them like a true weapon. Rapid and brutal attacks, using whips and blasts to extend his range.
Shang-Chi uses them like it's an extension of his own body. The rings almost dance along to his movements, and he never lets them hover far away (unlike Wenwu, who throws them around)
Like firebending in ATLA
It's not a weapon, but an extension of a bender's body
@@chrisaftontvt4318 my thoughts exactly. In fact, before Wan became the first Avatar you could say that all of the elements were like that.
i love those rings and the fighting style.
Shang Chis fighting style with the Rings is Tai Chi Chuan
And a little mix of hung gar
the fight scene with wenwu is 🔥...the fluidity of their moves feels more authentic than any other marvel fight scenes
It was nice to finally see marvel's 1st Asian superhero brought to the big screen as an Asian myself. And I honestly loved how much they showed us Shang Chi's skills before he got the rings to tell us that he's basically the best fighter in the marvel movies. Now by best fighter I mean that he's the best natural fighter meaning that he can fight the best without the need of powers (unlike Spider-man and Captain America who were physically weaker without their powers and unable to fight properly) or the need of weapons and fancy technology for the most part (unlike Black Widow and Iron Man who use their own weapons and armor regularly in the fights they have).

Shang Chi's fight scenes are better than the other Marvel films in my opinion.
They should be, in the comics Shang-chi is the world's greatest fighter followed by Taskmaster
Winter Soldier come close but i agree with your opinion
@@Lehsah2021 winter soldier fight scenes are shit, too much shaky cam and cut.
@@aberizal8022 The cam is shaky just enough to make the scene easy enough to see and it also add a bit of intensity to the scene
@@Lehsah2021 they use shaky cam to hide the stun double face, cause most of mcu actor use stun double for fight scenes. in this movie, simu liu do his own stunt.
If the rings can float freely and Shang Chi can stand on them, could he theoretically just stand on them and float in the air or run across the air using them
I think so
Yes
he did though
I was thinking that..
Yup
As a kid who have watched a lot of Shaw brothers, Wu Tang, Jackie Chan, Bruce Lee, Jet Li and Martial Club
It's like revisiting my childhood but better
The fighting was top notch and satisfying to watch. The martial arts combat is glorious and I absolutely love the rings.
It’s cool to see a magical weapon that is just as strong melee range as it is long range.
Their speed and animation was fun to watch
Watching these fights, I can never go back to other fights scenes in MCU again!
I'm biased for the color blue since it's my favorite color, but I loved Wenwu's fighting scenes. I also like how they didn't make him a mindless villain for the whole movie.

The mid air dagger at 3:02 was a move taken from a page of the Kakashi vs Obito fight. What a great move to reference and recreate IRL.
I'm watching this movie again. Also excellent work to the choreograph and audio team responsible for the fights and the sound of the rings. They look and sound satisfying.
I’ve always been fascinated by Asian cultures, and I loved this movie! I think Simu Liu at least deserves an Oscar nomination for this brilliant performance! This is my favorite Marvel film now.

A well deserved shot for the Marvel Studios intro
This is why I will always love marvel movies they gave the most bare bones overview to the director and said make a great martial arts movie and he freaking crushed it
If this ain’t the most epic and best standalone Marvel movie then idk what it is.

It has so many possibilities. The writers for Shang-Chi sequels and any potential Marvel ensemble movies like Avengers will have a whole world of different set pieces & fight mechanics they can do with it. A myriad of different ways it could interact/combine with other heroes/villains' powers.
@@allennguyen4477 yup, so many different ways to use them. As a shield, as ranged attacks, as a huge range attack of the whole 10 rings, as steps to walk in the air, as a way to fly by grabbing them, as whips and many more. This is one of the best weapons in marvel in my opinion.
Rip to the girl that lost her loptop beacuse shang chi use it to protect himself

I wish they'd make a series on Wenwu bringing back Tony Leung. Honestly, Tony was the highlight of the film.
Best fight scenes of Marvel hands down 👌🏻
Martial arts movies never fail to impress me, because the fight scenes are always so well choreographed, the messages are valuable, the stories are memorable, there’s just so little you can really hate in martial arts movied
Revisiting this I almost can’t understand the heavy criticism it received. I enjoyed it in theaters and even more so now having rewatched it. The quality is top notch, despite the Marvel formula.
damn those sonic rings are bright
3:50 this is the best scene and you cannot change my mind
The fight choreography is so damn good, why can't we get this good in every Marvel movie??
the train scene gives me major Jackie Chan vibes and I love it

THIS is how an Avatar (ATLA) live action movie should look like, in terms of martial arts

No Time to Die was a big flop, not comparable with Shangchi which was a worldwide hit
@@BingDwenDwen it got 700 million in box office and plus streaming stuff will definitely push it further. A big flop is an extreme exaggeration. Sure, it underperformed, but most movies in pandemic did.

@@BingDwenDwen
I would like to disagree.
Both films brought more than double their budget which signifies that they both indeed performed well at the box office.
By the way, the profit of No Time To Die (4th highest grossing film of 2021) is more than that of Shang-Chi (8th highest).

@@ohoangkhanh6144 that a movie made more money doesn't mean anything. No Time to Die was a very bad movie, I mean very bad. Can we appreciate how quick Shang-chi learned the things he did later in the movie, for the first time in his life he used the rings which his father had been for, what a couple thousand years?, and fought him directly with using them through something else he also had only learned a few days ago
Female characters get criticized for this and called Mary Sues.
epic magnitude of VFX, especially with the scenes of rings.
in regards to which movie is better between this and winter soldier, idk why yall compare them it only makes people hate each other’s opinions. both movies have their great moments and both have their flaws. neither should be compared to the other because theyre both the greatest movies of the MCU so far

I don‘t think Shang Chi is that strong. I mean Wanda couldn‘t defeat Thanos and she definitely is one of the strongest heroes
He’d not make a difference at both Wakanda and Titan. He’s nowhere near powerful enough.
Nah starlord will still messed things up
@@somebody1170 the only reason Wanda didnt defeat Thanos is because he called for backup. Wanda is one of the most OP characters in the MCU

I love their childhood fighting scenes its so satisfying
0:32 The bus scene rly reminded me of Devil may cry 2013 game for some reason :D
Shang Chi was a cool movie!
Now that's my MCU
This movie had beautifully choreographed fight scenes, and not bad special effects to boot. And I'd say the villain, Xu Wenwu, was probably the most compelling and most intimidating. Even more than Thanos. Because he was just some dude grieving for the love of his life.
This kind of camera works i like when there's a fight scene. No shaking and subtle movements only when they want to emphasize some moves that needed to be seen.
I kind of wish Shang Chi had the rings glowing his father's blue on one arm and his mother's gold on the other. Would have been nice, considering the emphasis the movie placed on Shang Chi accepting that he is the legacy of both his parents.
He is perfect in sangchi character
