Hiking Uncompahgre Peak trail guide San Juan Mountains from Nellie Creek Colorado 14ers BEST HD

In this video we summit Uncompahgre Peak outside of Lake, City Colorado. From Lake City, head up Engineer pass way, and turn right up the Nellie Creek road. The road was pretty doable. We decided about where the creek crosses to walk the rest of the way though. Some people were stuck having trouble ahead of us, so we aired on the side of caution. LEAVE EARLY. We were fortunate enough to have a stunningly beautiful day. There wasn't a cloud in the sky. That is not the norm! You defiantly don''t want to get caught up there because tree-line is pretty dang far from the whole mountain damn near. There is only one spot with any semblance of climbing. It's a class 2-3 scramble, nothing too crazy, but could be a great spot to get hit by falling rock. Move past this section, and the summit is yours!

I did this a little over 30 years ago and got caught in a lightning storm in the big meadow at the base of the peak. Very unnerving but a memorable hike for sure.
