Very nice. I used to backpack and fish those Mt lakes and streams. Nice to get a primer on the geology.

I just hiked Redcloud and Sunshine Peaks. Awesome! Very unique views from the front range and mosquito range I've been doing. Next: Umcompahgre, Sneffels and Handies.

Awesome, thank you. Randomly stumbled upon this video. I can see these peaks from my house! Always been curious to learn more about the geology. I've got some spots where I would love to take a geologist so they could explain what is happening

I live on the Animas River on Hwy 550 Just past the NM state line. This part of Colorado and the 4 corners is amazing.

Is the source of the acid in the mines a remnant of the mining or is it naturally occurring in the groundwater associated with the mines mineralization? Beautiful videography.

I fish the Animas a lot in Durango. It's a gold medal trout river despite the problems. The fish supposedly can't reproduce because of the mine run off, so they stock the hell out of it. I have my doubts though - I think they are reproducing. Lots of evidence of it. Also runoff after the 416 fire killed everything a few years ago. Just before that, an accidental release of contaminated water killed everything too. Yeah, the Animas has had a rough time. Fishing is good now though! I won't eat anything out of there though, that's for sure 😂

Why aren't loaded streams like Cement Creek run through a resin bead treatment system to remove the metals? Recover and remove them rather than letting them poison the downstream.

That river has ran red for millions of years, way before mankind even roamed the planet. Thousands of rivers occur naturally throughout the world, just like Cement creekThere is a waste water treatment plant above the ski area, at Gladstone. It will need to be operated infinitum, as the naturally oxidizing minerals will continue to leach from the ground, even from areas that have never been mined. Most of the mineralization is Iron, + some lower ph Sulphuric acid,+ other trace metals. The Iron just makes it look so undesirable, but really isn't all that bad. Every body would like to see a nice, shiney car, rather then a rusty junk heap car. The water gets more pollution downstream from people adding nitrates for fertilizing soil, spraying Roundup for weed control, inefficient waste disposal systems, etc,. The water is way more polluted by the time it hits the ocean, then the water presented.
