Its can be even more satisfying than getting a new bike, making an old bike run better than any time during your time of ownership. Can feel your love for the bike and your dislike of stupid government regulations.
Just bought a 2003 r and uploaded , was going for retro 900 rs but came to same conclusion as you , this bad boy is a two owner with full history and 8.5 k on the clock . Keep up the good videos 👍🏻👌🏻
What a beaut! The two things I enjoyed most were finding out that we live at almost the same elevation & the delight you expressed in this video. Thanks ✌️
It always has impressed me how passionate you are for the older bikes and the commitment you have of keeping them nice and running like new .. that bike is nice very much one of those I wish I had bikes...
Love the bike....I ride an older Bandit 12 and know what you mean about ethanol fuel...mine hates it! I use 2oz of seafoam in every tank full and have had no problems. When I got the bike I couldn't adjust the pilot screws, since running seafoam I was able to adjust and fine tune my carbs to my taste. Knock of wood bike has been running beautifully since then. Hope this helps and stay safe. Shiny side up my friend.
That bike looks and sounds amazing. You're right, if the bike can make you giggle like a little kid it's the right bike. Sound like science happened in that time. Great video bro.
Very nice bike....I ride a ‘98 Bandit 12 and had similar problems. I could not adjust the pilot jets and wouldn’t idle smoothly. A buddy of mine said that “ethanol in current fuel is bad for carb bikes”. Ran some seafoam through it and it cleared up the gunk or varnish and I was able to adjust all four pilot jets. I run about 4oz of seafoam every other tank full and always when the bike sits for some time. Knock on wood this has worked for me now since I’ve had the bike going on five years. Best of luck and again very nice Kawi!!
Yeah, I also have a K5 Bandit 1200 in my stable and it doesn't like ethanol much more than my ZRX. In the age of E10+, you really gotta stay on top of carbureted motorcycles. Cheers.
A word of advice for a tip if you take 87 octane and you take 1 gallon of 110 octane racing fuel and added to 5 gallons of 87 to 1 gallon of 110 it will help keep the engine clean of the ethanol
Good stuff man. That ZR sounds good now. Better than the last time we heard it, lol. Got my Zed running today after about 12 days down time. Damn it felt nice doing those rolling burnouts, lol. I've an 87 ZL1000 Eliminator - only 2500 made.
Ha ha - the inner hoon seemed to be making the odd point about who's is in charge if push comes to pull!! That's great news man, good work, what a lovely bike it is.
i love and hate carburetors especially multiple ones lol it is very satisfying when it starts and purrs like a kitty. congrats man looking forward to more ZRX videos
To help ease the pain of ethanol, add 1 oz. atf per gallon of fuel. Has kept my '86 Goldwing carbs in perfect working order for about five years (last rebuild)
Hahaha! I was just thinking that a cemetery was a strange place to record when you mentioned it, lol, it's such a better look with the little breathers, you've done a fair old bit of work to her but well worth it, RSM8.
I love that bike. I've always had a love for those classic 80's early 90's bikes. And this one just looks like something straight from that era but way more badass. One day I'll own one. I'll admit when you started going in the specifics of the tune thingy(yeah that tells ya something) I had not a clue what ya was talking about. hahahaha Awesome video as always.
LOL. I totally understand. But sooner or later, I know the ZRX crowd will find this video, so that info will hopefully save me a lot of questions to answer about tuning in the future. Heh-heh. Cheers and thanks, as always sir.
Hello! Wow! I am excited to see the video you are riding on the Kawasaki ZRX 1200R. You ride on a cool motorcycle! That is wonderful. You revived the Kawasaki ZRX 1200R with a good mentorance. Kawasaki motorcycles are very popular in the United States. I was surprised to learn that Kawasaki is not well supported in Japan. Thank you.
Nice vid +TimKreitzAdventures. You hit the twistiest road here! Ventura with that stop at I St. 😂 Sounds like you’re going to need a larger garage soon! 🏍🏍🏍🏍
That header and pipe have held up really well over the past 13 years. The trick is keeping them clean for sure. D&D doesn't even make those pipes anymore. ;-)
Thanks as always, my friend. Yeah, we got really luck with the fall color this year. Usually, we'll have had at least one hard freeze and all the leaves will immediately hit the ground. This year, it has been much milder and wetter, so they are still hanging onto the trees nicely. It's awesome.
I got some bad gas In My 2003 ZRX1200R . I tried cleaners and octane booster that helped for a little while ,But then it still flooded my airbox and my crankcase full of gas.. I drained that out and put fresh oil in it. I’m gonna put a new petcock valve on it and try to get it running again or at least running good enough to get it to the shop . Maybe there was water or something in the gas. I always use premium, but the gas station that I got the bad gas from doesn’t have much motorcycle customers. Maybe their premium gas is old or has water in it. It’s frustrating, she was running great before the bad gas. I figured out how to drain the bowls but I can only reach 2 of them, gotta get a longer allen to reach the other 2. I was gonna put new fuel lines but it looks like a confusing spaghetti of lines and hoses. Hopefully I can get my green machine rolling again this spring.
@@TimKreitzAdventures I did have a Two Brothers slip on pipe but it was popping bad without a jetkit. I did buy a jet kit with 3 different jet size but it cost more to install it than the kit cost. Several years ago they wanted $65 per carb. So right now i have the stock pipe but I still have a K&N air filter but still in the stock airbox. I was told the float needles sticking or petcock valve can cause the gas to flood the case. If could afford it I'd pay someone to rip that airbox out and all the unnecessary hoses and lines and trick it out.
Hell yes, Tim!!! Thanks for doing this one..I freaking love that machine..you have the cleanest one I have seen..I'm assuming you're running seafoam through it? It's damn near impossible to find ethanol free gas anymore...
Nice job! When I was making my last bike purchase, I was trying to decide between the ZRX and the Bonnie (just re-introduced back then). Once I saw a photo of the then-upcoming T100, the decision was made (Centenary Edition), but when my brother let me ride one of his ZRX's I wished I had one of those too! My T100 doesn't seem to like ethanol either, at least I think that's the culprit in the spitting it does at idle (runs ok otherwise); I also ditched the airbox on it, got rid of the secondary air injectors, mounted the Triumph accessory performance mufflers (not for road use! haha), did a few other things. Are you planning to drop some ZX cams in that beast? Were I able to afford it I might look for a nice used one (though truthfully I'd likely be more tempted by a used Diavel, most outrageous bike I've ever ridden; talk about a bike that makes you giggle!)
Tim Krietz now produces moto-porn. Just sayn '. I had to flip a coin between a ZRX and a Bandit naked version. The Zuk won out. Always wondered if I should have gotten a ZRX. Ended up going full Dale Walker Holeshot Perf on tbe Bandit. 147HP tourque monster. Giggle factor X10.
Gotta love the Bandit. My buddy Rodger, who helped me with part of this rebuild, has a super-clean '96 model 1200 Bandit. Those things are the cat's pajamas for sure.
Congrats. The ZRX is a monster of a bike. Too bad that ethanol is so widespread these days that it's getting harder to find ethanol free fuel. Are there any additives that can neutralize the ethanol?
Very cool bike and a big pat on the back for the tune job. Did you have the experience to get this all done or get help from a pro on the particulars? Good work either way, and that is such a good feeling when it's right...especially when you did it yourself.
I actually took the carbs to a friends house who is a retired motorcycle mechanic so I could use certain tools I don't have in my shop such as jet drills, float gauges, etc. It's always good to have two sets of eyes on a job like this, too, because there are so many tiny parts that can be misplaced or put in backwards during the rebuild process.
Memory is fading. I’ve seen this but will add one more comment. I loved your line in the other video. “Is it Green? No? Well, I want a helluva deal on it then.” Hahahah.
You know my bikes as i know yours.....excellent Tim...Sounds sweet and yes the giggle factor is a must... Gettin that so much on my 1200 bandit cus its just pure hoooooligan... And yet i get the same on the mighty power and cornering on my zzr1200..... Stage 3 hey.....You gonna dyno the bike anytime soon bud?
Tim Kreitz Adventures So much old skool torque Tim....i just love it....the front wheel really just never wants to stay on earthbound...class bike my friend!
I wonder if thats the problem with mine?? Oh wait, the problem is I Haven't finished it yet!! lol Glad to hear yours is running so Nice. Tuned Right = gives you the Giggles. Thanks for the info on what you did btw. One-Day - the GPz600 Stage 3 will give me the Giggles again... Keep Trolling & RSOT >:)
Not that I've found. I used to be able to get it all the time, but over the past three or four years it has become really scarce in these parts. America's mandatory ethanol laws are among the worst scams ever played on the public.
Wow! Ethanol has been a choice here for maybe the past 10 years as E10 (10% Ethanol blend) but there are still only 1 in 4 pumps maybe that have it and I don't know of anyone that uses it in their bikes. Or cars for that matter. E85 is also available but not common and is used as the fuel of choice for the V8 Supercar series.
Oh My ! How did your bike end up running so poorly before you repaired it? Did it sit for years on end without using it? I bought my REX new in 2002. I have 46,000 miles on the clock and it runs as good as it did the day I bought it. Every winter, while it joins my mothball fleet, I start the bike once a month and let it run for 10 to 15 minutes. This makes it easy to start in the spring and always keeps fairly fresh fuel in the carbs. I run regular gas and have never ever had an issue with the power train. I hear other riders that have issues so I know it's not just your bike. But for me, my REX has been the most dependable bike I have ever owned. Barry
We don't mothball our bikes here because winters are mild and we ride year-round. Here in the desert, ethanol fuels cause problems with older engines, especially on days above 110º when there is an excessive concentration or phase separation. That was the case with my bike.
Love the ZRX1200R. Have had three (one was an 1100) in the past 12 years. BTW, since the comments are disabled for your Z900RS video review (ruclips.net/video/SIGtCt19oRE/видео.html) I just wanted to say I appreciate your honesty and understand your frustration with some of the really inappropriate and negative feedback. I'm actually going to test ride the Z900RS tomorrow at a Kawasaki Demo Ride Event in PA. I owned a 2018 Z900 for a few months and really enjoyed almost everything about it, but found the suspension to be God-awful hard and wanted something a little softer and easier on the bumps while maintaining composure. That is the idea behind looking at the RS. We'll see how I feel about it. Personally, I'm not focusing so much on the "retro" aspects of it, but I'm more interested in how well it performs and handles the everyday mixed road conditions and bumps. For close to $4000 more than the Z900 it better really impress me or I too may back out of buying it. LOL
It's been doing a lot better with ethanol-laced fuel over the past few years since I did this mod. I've also been riding it on the regular since, which helps too.
LOL. Man, every time I start doing wheelies on the Z-Rex, I end up having to replace its fork deals. It's a pretty heavy bike. I'll stick with the rolling burnouts. Tires are easy to replace. Heh-heh-heh. ;-)
Yeah there's few things more fun than spending a day taking forks apart to replace seals (not!!). I can't talk really because on my '04 FZ1 I can do mini power wheelies coming into 2nd gear but anything more than that I'm screaming in terror like a little girl :/
tim, could you tell me what jets you are using. i am in a similar area and put in a stage 2 kit, but i think the jets are the wrong size. i put in what dynojet suggested, but its just not right. any help is appreciated
Tim..ethanol is cyanide for bikes (and many small motors). If you haven't seen it, there is a web site, and better yet, an app called pure gas , that shows dealers of non- ethanol fuel.www.pure-gas.org
Yeah, I used to have it bookmarked, but there are no more stations in my town selling ethanol-free fuel. It's been that way for several years now, unfortunately. Thanks for the link, though! :-)
I wish I could say the same. All my problems started when E10 was forced upon us out here. Much better since these mods, though. I'm also using some marine fuel treatment which I think has helped.
Thats a nice wedding you have there... it'd be a shame if someone invited A KAWASAKI!!
Hahaha! :-)
Thanks, ma_rj! :-)
Its can be even more satisfying than getting a new bike, making an old bike run better than any time during your time of ownership. Can feel your love for the bike and your dislike of stupid government regulations.

Bringing a bike back from the brink is the work of true artist. Nice work Tim. Giggle on !!!
Thank you, sir. Giggling to the Nth degree for sure. LOL.

Much appreciated. It's definitely a keeper. I've gotten rid of many bikes over the past few decades, but not this one. ;-)
Excellent job on putting the stage kit on her and bringing the bike back to life. You should have photo-bombed the wedding pics.
Should've sent the drone in there. LOL!
Yes, the ZRX king forever! Great job resurrecting it, sounds great and your laughter says it all!
Thanks, Basia. I'm having a ball on it for sure. :-)

Shiny side up to you as well, sir. I just added a Bandit 1200 S to my stable. I'm loving it.
Cemeteries are a great place to showcase new life. I like it! That bike is a beauty and looks like you maintain it very well.
Thank ya, ma'am. That bike and I have been down a lot of roads together.
That's such a cool bike, I love those! I'm looking forward to seeing it again in the future.
Thank ya, Mr. Grubbs. I'm looking forward to riding it more. :-)
That bike looks and sounds amazing. You're right, if the bike can make you giggle like a little kid it's the right bike. Sound like science happened in that time. Great video bro.
Thanks, brah! You're absolutely right; I've been giggling ever since! LOL.
Thank you for showing. I grew up Harley, but for the crazy thrill I'm getting big bore Kawasaki.
You'd love it. :-)

OG hooligan beast lives again...congrats👌
Yes sir, back for the attack. Thanks!

That's great news man, good work, what a lovely bike it is.
Thank you, sir. It's great to have it running well. Now if only the weather would warm up a bit. LOL.
Now that is a REAL motorcycle. It's absolutely gorgeous
Much agreed and appreciated. She's a classic in the making for sure. Cheers!
i love and hate carburetors especially multiple ones lol it is very satisfying when it starts and purrs like a kitty. congrats man looking forward to more ZRX videos
Thanks, Dev. They can definitely be a source of frustration, but they payoff can be so nice. LOL.
I've had some issues with carbs and winter blend gas, bike looks tip top!
LazyWaffleman Thabks! Fron here on out, Sea Foam and B-12 will be a regular part of this bike's life. :-)
Rolling burnouts right to the closest Dairy Queen! Sounds great Tim
Heh-heh-heh. Thank you, sir. ;-)
To help ease the pain of ethanol, add 1 oz. atf per gallon of fuel. Has kept my '86 Goldwing carbs in perfect working order for about five years (last rebuild)
Yeah, I've had several people mention that. I'll have to give it a try. Thanks!
Glad she’s back in tip top shape; although I’m excited to see you make vids with that new Z900 cafe!
Me, too. I just hope I can get my hands on one. None to be found thus far. Cheers and thanks!
Tim Kreitz Adventures yeah it’s tough when you’re at the mercy of the surrounding dealerships.. In due time I suppose, cheers brotha!
Cheers!
I really like that motorcycle, Tim. I too, know that uncontrollable giggle!
RIDEwithGNR Yes, you certainly do! LOL.
If I ever decide to tie the knot, you and the Z rex will deffo be invited man! :)
Such a sweet ride, happy it's working right now.
Thanks, Bimble. I'll even be happy to officiate. LOL. :-)
Hehe! I'd rather you than Arson anyday man ;)
Nice to see the bike up and runing you have dun a lot of work on it but good to have it runing tip top rsm
Much appreciated, my friend. It's a huge relief to have it running correctly.
It looks great and sounds great Tim...Good job amigo!
jimmy bownds Much appreciated, Jimmy!
Really nice bike! someone in my neck of the woods has a blue one which looks sick!

Man, I wish it was still like that here. :-(
Great video thanks
You betcha.
Nice TK!
Brett Wendel Thanks! :)
LOL
Wow, I have an 01' and it doesn't care if I use ethanol fuel (10%) It's been fine for 13 years now.
It's been doing a lot better with ethanol-laced fuel over the past few years since I did this mod. I've also been riding it on the regular since, which helps too.
Whaaaat? More horsepower but no Sub D-esque wheelies? :)
The tune is fully explained in the video, including jet sizes and jet drilling.
I can tell the bike is better by how happy you sound. Are you going to put it on a dyna?
Yessir, I'll wait until the springtime when things are starting to warm back up.
What gas stations don't have ethanol?
Man, I wish I knew. Apparently none in my area. :(
Usually you have to go to the coast and buy marine fuel. There was 1 outside where I used to live in SC, but it usually cost $1-2 more per gallon
Hmmm. My ZRX runs fine on E-fuel for 16 years now.
I wish I could say the same. All my problems started when E10 was forced upon us out here. Much better since these mods, though. I'm also using some marine fuel treatment which I think has helped.
can you tell me the size of the main jets? thank you
Contained in the video.
hahahah...drifting...she pulls man...damn..
Yes sir, pulls like a freight train! :-D
Ahhhhh Yeah
HarleyRider 283 You know it! :)
Tm,here is a site to find non ethanol fuel stations.

dcg44s Thanks!
Nothing likes ethanol, you just have to build it so it will tolerate it:)
William Zoom Exactly.
Ethanol belongs in my glass not in my tank.
Jolsen Amen to that!
Poor Fairview.
Yeah, for sure.
