Hi , thanks for your reply, very interesting comment you made, I been doing ab ing with my bass moded 6xx with 660s2 , only got the 660s2 as was a open box at £269, if you get the custom cans bass mod to your 650 it will be lot better in bass at lower end, so been a-b on both sets and 6xx bass if think just about comparable with the 660s2, both better thank my 660s and 560s , but I interesting that my old hd 575 has much thicker ear pads so I have fitted 32mm pads on my 6xx , 660 a, and my new 660s2, all help a bit towards the bass , the 660 and 560 bit more neutral, I was quite happy with 6xx but when I saw these 660s2 at that private I had to buy them , they about £400 in Uk at the moment, and 650 is at £229 . Regards mark
Hi great review , I have 6xx with customer cans bass mod which helps the bass in the bottom end , also change the pads for 33mm to help with sound signature. Compared with the 660s2 similar but when a-b my moded 6xx may have bit more bass . . Regards mark
The 6XX definitely sounds fuller but the 660S2 edges out on its overall technical performance but it's based on memory as i dont have the 660S2 anymore but I remember that aspect of its sound and having the 6XX now, i dont think it edges out but curious to know your thoughts on that as well. Thanks for watching the video!
I demoed these side by side with the 600 and 660, there was no point to this headphone especially due to the cost. Anyone that ever asks if these are worth it, just buy the HD600 and learn to EQ if you want more bass for some music. Or use that extra money and buy a more bassy headphone to compliment your HD600.
I personally prefer the Clears for dynamics and resolution. Have not heard the HD800 personally, but if you meant the HD800S then that headphone simply wipes the floor in terms of resolution and soundstage, but the HD660S2 has got more punch and slam whereas the HD800S has little to none for me.
I haven't heard any of Senn's headphones, will 660S2 make a good purchase or other 6 series? Thanks. Edit : I have Zen Stack so not worried about lack of bass.
Honestly depends on what you're looking for, I can't say for the hd600 as I only have the hd650 but if you're looking for resolution and don't mind lack of bass then 600/650, if you want more bass then 660S2 but it is not the most resolving headphone. If you want best of both worlds then you'll have to look elsewhere IMHO. Hope the above helps
@@rnarexperience Thanks.Have u heard of DT 770 pro 250ohms? If so how do these compare. My current daily drivers at the moment so i'll get a good comparison.
@@deparoo I owned the 80hm version but sold them months ago as I have too many headphones but I'm considering buying them again because honestly I like them a lot but going off on memory. They have a bit more sub bass and more treble but the hd600/650 beats the dt770 on resolution but loses on bass and hd660s2 has a bit more mid bass and has a much more laid-back presentation but if you like the treble on the dt770 then maybe hd660s2 won't be up your alley. Again take above with grain of salt as I'm going by memory instead of a full on comparison with the dt770. The price difference is also quite large to jump from dt770 to hd660S2.
@@rnarexperience Dude you're highly appreciated! I'm looking for an open back dynamic and was considering one of senn's. DT770pro 250ohms are a beast! I use PEACE with Crin's EQ. @@deparoo oooo if you like the dynamics on the Beyer then not too sure if the hd600 will satisfy as the hd650/600 aren't known for that. However you can eq them but not sure how far they're able to go. Might wanna check out some reviews first before you take the plunge. all the best man!
I did try the s2 at canjam nyc this year. As a big fan of the hd6xx and the hd660s1 ( I actually bought 2 of them just in case ). The s2 was a disappointment for me, I felt like the lowered everything to make the bass appear more prominent. The mids are not as magical as the other hd6 series headphones it's a bit sucked out. Also there's a slight treble spike around an area that bothered me so much, I kept lowering the volume. For me the s1 was more detailed, especially in the treble, without being too forward. All in all I still think the hd6xx to be the best hd6 series headphones, the performance to price ratio is unbeatable in my opinion. But from purely performance perspective, the hd660s1 is the best no competition, airy ethereal, open , precise, etc. The s1 reminds me a lot of the stax l700 just with less resolution, cause estats are insane in that department. The s2 isn't a v shaped tuning, although it feels like it at times, it's more engaging and energetic, its fun, but still technically very competent.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts Mohamed! How are the bass for the HD6XX? From my experience any headphone with less bass especially in the mid bass would most likely has the most details coming through due to the nature of the sound presentation. I personally don't feel the sharpness on the treble for the HD660S2 personally but then again I'm using a relatively warm dac/amp so that may have some influence to the sound as well. I guess it's more of what people want in their sound presentation, it's resolution vs dynamics. However I personally feel with so many HD6-- having that sound profile with resolution in mind, I feel the HD660S2 is a nice change to the lineup.
@@rnarexperience thank you for the nice words. Me personally I think the hd6xx is a bit below the other hd6 series headphones and on par with the hd650, but it's like 95% there in terms of technicalities, so the price to performance ratio is pretty high for the hd6xx. The hd6xx has a bit of mid bass bump, it doesn't intrude into the mids cause it's done carefully, but it gives the headphone it's landmark warmth in the sound. And as you said the amp can influence the sound of these headphones a lot, these are 300 ohms headphones ( except the hd58x and the 660s1) so the amp will control the presentation of the sound. My least favorite of the hd6 series is the hd600, cause it's way to focused on the mids, and with some solid state amps it can be a bit harsh ( a tiny bit). The hd660s2 that I tried were hooked to a topping a90, I also hooked it up to my chord mojo 2 just to make sure that my observations were correct. With the topping it was harsh in the treble, to be specific around the 7-9 khz area, the upper treble was lowered compared to the s1. With the mojo 2, the treble got tamed down a bit but it boosted the mid bass a little over what I like, it sounded a bit v shaped, just ever so slightly. The s1 has more Air, it sounds ethereal, kinda like electrostatic headphones, the s1 to me is like a warm tuned estat, everything is in it's place and notes just float around you. Tonality wise the s1 is close to the HE-1 Orpheus, without exaggerating, yes the HE-1 has better technicalities all over the spectrum, but tonally they sound similar. That's why I liked s1. Now saying that the s2 to me sounds more like if audeze or zmf wanted to make an hd6 headphone, it's energetic, lively, and fun. As a standalone headphone it's fabulous, but as an hd6 headphone it's a bit weird. Whenever I run my hd6xx I run it through the either the rme adi DAC directly or through the singxer sa -1 and they sound terrific on both cases, with the s1 I run it through anything and it will still ethereal and comforting, beautiful, and detailed.
@@sonicthehedgehog989 Wow thanks for sharing your detailed experiences man. Appreciate it as always. Seems like you have a few collection of headphones and really nice source gears.
