Your HD 660S review from July 1st 2020 stated "these are my favorite headphones in Sennheiser's line-up". UPDATE 2025: @Resolve clarified that he didn't write this review; even though his name and picture appear beneath the title, the review was written by @Chrono. When one scrolls to the bottom, it does say "Written by @Chrono". Hence, the HD 660S is Chrono's favorite (at least before the 660S2 came out).

Personaly i have All of them and All of them are amazing , but some of them are better on something else, for example 600 are the best on vocals, 650 on warm smooth sound, 660s on speed imaging separation liveness and S2 are like 660s with smoother treble and more low end . I have had the 600 S2 since yesterday: 6 hours of listening time in and I am really enjoying them. I pre-o ordered and once the reviews started rolling in I was concerned that I made a mistake paying a premium price for something new etc. I prefer these over the 650 that I have had for 2 years+. Back ground instruments come from behind me (my ears) much more so than the 650. Mids. still sound great, perhaps not as pronounced but I am hearing all of the other instruments more and to me that is more enjoyable. Other headphones I own, LCD-x, 650, Sundara, and Elegia.. I know its probably a niche issue but still. After they already blew my shit i took them apart and the build quality on the inside was scary bad. Sure on the outside they look good but inside, total cheap garbage.
MY PERSONAL OPINON is that said headphones using planar magnetic drivers suck ass. I had also bought the fostex t20rp mk3's which are "bass head" marketed headphones and there was no bass. 250hz is not bass. and there was a huge bloat at 250hz. so much that even setting -12db at 250hz on the EQ wouldn't fix the issue. it was that bad. I wont touch planar magnetic headphones because of this. not worth it. they may be great for tweeters (original use in home audio speakers/towers) but overall they suck. sure, the sundara's with +12db at 32hz would make them literally shake your head like a massager because "basshead" but overall they weren't great.

I don't envy Sennheiser. Imagine creating a product that becomes so loved that even over 20 years later people still love it over anything else you create in the same category and approximate price range. That has got to be pretty tough. After all, a business would optimally want to make newer products that existing owners would love to upgrade to AND that would bring in new customers. Of course, Sennheiser sells products in many other categories and price ranges, so luckily their evolution doesn't just hang on the HD 600 - but still. On the other hand, maybe the fact there hasn't been such enthusiasm to adopt the other 600-series headphones has the saving grace that it steers audiophiles to instead upgrade to the HD 800.

Shorter cables, no nice storage box, unpainted plastic while the 650 has a nice metallic silver paintjob, and the same tooling they've been using for 20+ years for the plastic bits, grill, and earpads.
This is a boring. It is not an innovative product in the space as you should expect for the cost they ask, and it looks worse than the 650. Remember that you do not need to pay more for different tuning. Senny makes a proffit still when the other 6X0's are on sale for 200-300 dollars regularly. $600 is an absolute insult to ask for these. Give it a bit and these will be $350 on amazon like the rest of the line.

Now what would interest me personally, because no one made a video about this yet, is the HD6XX or HD600 with the copper mod in comparison to the 660S2. While this still doesn't bring all that much subbass in, I wonder how it performs comparatively. My 6XX with that mod and ZMF suede pads are quite interesting. A tad more slam, a little more spacious. But the only source for this mod is custom cans and some forum posts for quite a while ago.

From flat, to more bass, to a lot more bass. Everything is there. I personally love the more bass variant, so no foam at all, stock foam removed.
If you decide to get it: also get thin nylon fabric from idk, an old pantyhose so you can stretch that below the copper rings as a dust protection, if you happen to use the variant with no foam. That makes it possible to have a dust free, bassier 6XX (more bass than EQ probably can do and I am sure, if you add a good bass shelf on top of that, you could get very deep reaching subbass)

Hello, I really appreciate this review. I'm currently trying to decide between the Sennheiser 660S2 and the 600. I wanted to follow up with a question related to what to said in the middle of your video. Around the 6:50 min mark you mentioned about how the frequency response curve is flatter//more relaxed from 2KHz and up. You mentioned that this will lose some clarity on instrument tones, but it would have a benefit on electric guitars in rock genre music. I predominantly listen to Punk Rock/alternative Rock bands such as Sum 41, Blink-182, All Time Low, Fall out boy etc. Would you classify these types of bands that might benefit from a frequency response of the 660s2 or were you referring to heavier type of rock music such as Metal/hard core rock which is much more aggressive. The bands I predominantly listed to a a little softer than your heavy metal/hard core rock music.

I enjoyed the review but I do feel like you missed the mark on this one. I feel like, from your wording, there was a bias in favor of the HD600's from the outset that overshadowed the 660S2 getting to be its own headphone. I can understand your dilemma though. Like you, my preferred 600 series headphone overall WAS the HD600, but once I got the 660S2 things changed and seemingly like you, I had a bias towards my favorite going in.
My most used headphones for the past 5 years have been the 600 series since the natural tone and presentation is just what I prefer in a headphone. The 660S's flaws are that it is too shouty, it does some of what the 600's do, more of what the 700's do, but not enough of what either of them do to justify existing (especially if you own both of the other headphones). I've always felt like its sound was more akin to the HD59X sound than the 600 series.
Finally on the 660S2. They outright with ease offer a clearer look into the music and are both a better pair of cans for enjoying or inspecting music than the 600's. I don't feel like they make 650's or 600's irrelevant but I can easily be happy with all three for different reasons. That being said though, the 660S2's are in my opinion, the best of the three and less of a side grade than reviewers suggest.
Owners seem to agree about how much better they are than the previous models (where you said you feel and feel like most would think the 600's were better).
Still, I liked your review and appreciate your honest thoughts about the 660S2. I just don't quite feel like you gave it a chance to be what it is instead of what you wanted it to be. Again, I can relate. It is most of what I wanted but also a lot more than what I expected in some aspects and it is actually really good even compared to it's predecessors and a leap of an improvement over the original 660S.

@@razisn Rip Redbook then. Go through every album I own and get them into a state that they can be passed through software EQ on my PC.

Welp, just got a Peavey 2x31 band graphic EQ from the local classifieds for $80, so I'll hook that up and have a play.

Hello I was wondering what tells me how well different tones are reproduced through a headphone?

I am guessing the sales figures of all the Beats by Dre headphones influenced the decision to add a model with more bass and less fidelity.

I’d take the 660S2 over a 650 any day. I heard the two back to back. The 660S2 images better and has a lot more clarity- it was through a Bryston DAC and a WA23 Luna.

So which of them would you advice for listening electric guitar through amp modeler? And which open style in general? Thanks

Amp modellers have a lot of eq adjustments; every effect like distortion or reverb affects the eq, right? So, it shouldn’t matter, I guess.

picked up 600 and picked up 660s2.
600 = treble is high, mid can feel a bit muddy.
660s2 = heaven mode. I really did not want like them. but will say if you’re a music producer and you’re working in loud environment, it’s pretty dam annoying as outside noise can distract you. but once you get going and in flow it’s just zen

How can a headphone be flaccid? Does the headband droop?
