It seems that you've merged Catsles of Burgundy and Dice Forge in very clever non-messy way. My copy is going to be delivered today, hopefully, cant wait to get my hands on that beauty))
Absolutely LOVE this game! I just got it last week. The caravan (dice upgrade area) is so fun! I think you touched on all my favorite things in this game. I also like the ongoing ability vista cards and how the inspiration cards slot under star cards to give even bigger goals and points to go for. By far the dice upgrading and placement as well as the card panorama are my favorites. So fun! Have a good one!
I'm really looking forward to getting this to the table! All I've done so far is unbox and organize and just want to say how much I love the components. The insert is really well designed, I absolutely adore the color choices for the player components/dice, and the wooden influence tokens just look and feel so nice. Garphill knocked it outta the park with this production!
The dice modification system was fun, and I loved having a built out tableau of land, sea, and sky cards. I also think the iconography is pretty good. I do feel like the sky cards are too hard to get to make it part of any strategy, and I hope that the person who makes it to the end first doesn't always win. Then the game becomes a race instead of exploration, which I would enjoy more. Last note, Mr. Stonemaier is a great asset to the hobby of gaming.
Finally tabled this yesterday. Wow, first a great game with a solid production, from the insert to the components. This game does some very clever things with dice placement and being able to add tags to the dice you place. This game is all about the set collection, with dice placement and worker placement, a great combo. I will say that this is a beast to learn at first, just a ton of terminology, a ton of iconography and a slew of different card decks and tokens. It all works well together, but certainly heavier for Garphill.
Yeah it definitely helps with learning if you’ve played the West Kingdom series. Uses a lot of the same iconography but still a few new things to learn.
I just played my first solo game of this yesterday, and I agree, the dice crafting in your caravan is a really cool puzzle and is really fulfilling. Also the card art and tableau that you build is just gorgeous. Shem was comparing this game in weight to Paladins, and while I somewhat agree, I feel like this game flows better because I don't feel like you need to hold nearly as many pieces of strategy in your head at one time as you do in Paladins. I think it flows better. I'm a huge fan, I can't wait to play with real people.
I can see that about the game flow. The range of choices in Wayfarers slowed me down a bit in the first play--so many options! I tried to pick a few inspiration cards to stay focused on specific icons (just to give myself a goal to pursue), and when in doubt, I focused on the next step of the central track.
@@jameystegmaier About three quarters of the way down the track I got myself completely stuck behind two requirements that I didn't have at all, which basically ground me to a halt. So yeah, there are a lot of threads to track and especially for a first time it's tough to know what to do. I think my only thing is that I still found it easier to grok then Paladins (which I also love, to be fair), even though I undermined myself at the end.
For me this feels more on the level of Viscounts than Paladins. It even feels similar with the different focuses you can choose for scoring and the dice/tableau building here gives me a similar feeling to the deck building engine building of Viscounts.
Excited to play this game. I know you've mentioned before not having the right equipment for a playthrough video, but it would be so cool to see some of your two player games.
The panorama aspect is present in Kanagawa as well. It is a simple-ish card drafting game. The whole idea is building out a panorama to score points in a set collection kind of way.
@@jameystegmaier yes. Every dice "slides" along a path landing on the last tile blocking it from being used. Very clever but also very high risk of AP 😃
Played this earlier in the week for the first time and I’d agree, I really love that dice building mechanism and how they built in several ways to help you decide on your path forward. There are so many options that AP here could be real, but they did a great job mitigating that.
Hey Jamey - thanks so much for covering Wayfarers. I too would love to see this mechanism re-used and taken further by some other designer :)
Thanks for the excellent design, Sam! So many clever mechanisms in one game. :)

I'm glad to hear you really enjoyed this game. I'm hoping to get it soon. Garphill games is my second favorite publisher after Stonemaier!

So excited to see your enthusiasm for this game! My copy arrived yesterday and I'm hoping to play it this weekend.

I agree, the first play in particular was quite a brain-burner for me--so many options! :)

Looking forward to playing this solo. I believe the bot is very easy to manage.
Win or lose, this game is a lot of fun.
Mihir called into the show this week gushing about his play of Wayfarers.
Nice!
HAve you played Santa Maria ? :)
I have, but it's been a while. As I recall, it has a similar dice-improvement mechanism?

That does look really cool, thank you for sharing! Ine question, can you stack those dice tiles on top of each other?
In Wayfarers you can't stack the tiles, though I barely filled up half my board--I didn't feel the need to stack.
Is it out yet??
My Kickstarter copy is here--that's all I know!
@@jameystegmaier Thanks Jamey! I pre- ordered with game store. Can’t wait! Sounds like soon. Take care.
