    Just FYI, here are the instructions from a dealer for how to add the fluid after draining.
    You will find a vent plug located on each transaxle. Loosen this plug on each side. You will fill the hydro oil through the expansion reservoir until oil comes out of the vent plug.
    Once you see oil coming out of the plugs, tighten the vent plugs.
    Obviously, this is much easier than pumping fluid up into the vents.
    Also, the manual instructions say to do the following to remove air in the system:
    Start your mower and increase the throttle to about ½ throttle. Release the parking brake.
    Make sure the bypass valve is open and slowly move the motion control levers both forward and reverse about 6 times.
    Close the bypass valve and repeat the same procedure moving the levers both forward and reverse about 6 times.
    Check the oil level with the mower in the off position and once the hydros have cooled. Add more oil if needed until it reaches the “full cold” line shown on the expansion reservoir.
    You may need to repeat the steps to purge the air. Once your drive tires move at normal speed and the noise level seems correct you can stop.

    Thanks for the vid.
    I just did my 2018 ex mark radius and couldn't actually use the adapter to screw it into either transaxle. So I just sat there holding the tube in about half an inch in the transactional plug opening and filled with fluid. Filled all the way up to the top. Topped off the reservoir... so the pump was helpful at least to get it up into the hole.
    One would think that they could make a adapter that basically looks like the plug that you take out of the transactional. Just add the nipple to the center that way the sideways chunky part of the adapter doesn't get in the way.

    My filters were super tight, didn’t have a strap wrench ended up using a clamp. 2023 radius E 48” model doesn’t have a reservoir. Manual says just to pump through top port or you can add through fill port till it comes out top port. Steering is more even now and feels faster. Thanks for the video.

    Good explanation. Though make your life a little easier, plus its the Exmark official directions. Remove the two vent bolts like you did and you can fill from the expansion tank, no need to pump the fluid in. Page 61 of the owners manual includes that and the vent bolt torque specs.

      Doing mine today, time to get out the break in oil. Video very helpful and also was told by dealer to do the same, fill up the reservoir and take out the bolt and let the hydro fills until they start to come out the holes and put in the bolts. Also to pull the bypass levers then prime it like you did but no jacks needed due to tires not spinning.

    • @jamesbitb
      @jamesbitb 3 года назад +1

      @@ChiefWiggim The service manual says bypass then close bypass and run the controls both directions. I am sure you could skip the last and just bypass purge and then drive it around.

      I was wondering about that.That would also save money , not having to buy that kit to get the fitting. Is Mobil 1 20w50 good for hydro gear pumps ? Thanks

    • @jamesbitb
      @jamesbitb 2 года назад +3

      @@John_D2 My manual says Mobil1 15w-50 or Exmark Hydro Oil. The Mobil1 has a 250 hour interval, the Exmark Hydro oil has a 500 hour interval. I used Mobil1 personally, it will take several years for me to hit the 250 hour mark.

    If This is a radius mine is not like that you can put the oil in a small container on top but you have to lock the screw to one of the side before you do that so it does not run altogether in boats section just a full one side first I’m soon as you see the oil start to run from the screw that you takeoff you can stop that mean it’s full and close it and open your side to do the same thing

    Just to let everyone know if this exmark is still under warranty do not use the kit that this guy has, because if it is under warranty you must use everything by exmark or not it could void the warranty, once your mower is no longer under warranty than you can use whatever parts you want.

    From an engineer's perspective, it appears the whole design is to make maintenance as egregious as possible so you take it to the dealership...Geeze. Back in the day, you could change the oil, blades etc in less than two hours.
