WaW, what a nice piece of work, I like it, especially I have been a pilot on this aircraft for about 15 years. At the beginning of the training phase, my instructor told me, that I will love this machine, I really did love this aircraft and I am very proud that I flew the only supersonic long range bomber guided by only one pilot. you can never describe the feeling during take off by TU22, the feeling of power, professionalism, capability, control, leadership and glory. Thanks for uploading this film< I like it very much.

Thanks for uploading this! The Blinder really was a cool plane with some great lines. I've been reading the book by Sergey Burdin and it tells about a few foibles of the jet. Like how a fore or aft CG problem can be created by an engine out because of how the fuel tanks were configured. Also how a few pilots were killed because the seat safety lanyard wasn't attached to the hatch before it was closed. (It was there to prevent a crewmember from ejecting while a hatch was in place.) Also how the seats would wedge in the rails if ejecting while rolling/spinning. One of the more comical anecdotes involved the winch mechanism for the seat. Apparently there was a spring that would occasionally break while the seat was being cranked into position causing it to fall to the bottom of the rails giving the lucky crewmember a free carnival ride! (I would like to see video of that to see what the guy's expression would be!) I highly recommend the book to anyone interested in the Blinder! I would love to see one completely polished to show off how pretty it really is!
Love this video. I've never seen this kind of footage of the Blinder. Love the romantic Russian songs and nostalgic shots of smiling happy aircrew. Chris Rhea! Cool. Top Gun soundtrack.. Bleurrrrrgh!
Thanks to the Pilots that recorded this, its history that shows what a nation can create and do. Flying low near cities inspires the youth to greatness as the plane passes by.

Super rare footage -- thanks! I'm guessing this was all shot around the time the Tu-22s were being retired out of Russian service? But what an interesting plane. The sweep angle on the wings must have made landing speeds pretty scary. And I love the close up views. Russians built their bombers like they built their tanks!

Brian C Agree!!! nowadays, everything is clean, computerized, quiet and routine. These old jets were still very much experimental. The men who flew them had no idea. The squadron commander walks in and says, "Gregory, you have been selected to be the first pilot in the unit to fly the new aircraft. good luck!!!". And that's pretty much how it was. Those guys had no idea just how bloody dangerous sometimes this was. Still though, cool old jets!!!! Cheers!!!!!!

In the West, we look at this and see that it is not propaganda, it is just professional pilots and aircrew flying their mission, having a joke and being the kind of people you would like to have a drink with and swap pilot stories. Why can we not just be respectful and friendly?
It could be strange to understand, but in fact this generation of post-Soviet servicemen were extremely dedicated to their ... way (it's incorrect to call it career). During 1990-es they were literally unsalaried for months, forgotten and neglected by the politicians of the era, without any vision of bright future. And even after dissolution of the country they pledged loyalty they saw no option of breaking their loyalty to their commitments and society. For many of Soviet born people it's an axiom that if you won't do it - no one will do. We have our understanding of being idealistic that is hard to explain.:)
