I'm currently in the process of waiting for my first ever iaito. I went for a Jisei made in Japan, fairly high level stuff, a lot of customization was needed since I have to have a 2.60 shaku long one. The downside is I already paid the 700 bucks it costs and now I have to wait about three months for it to be made (they ship by plane afterwards and it's free). But I know it's gonna be a high-end piece that will serve me well for years to come.
Did you like how everything turned out?
I ordered from Tozando and am waiting till April. I didn't look into the company you mentioned.
Love the blue 💙 Iaito! Bringing my checkbook to class 😁.
Fellow martial arts weapon nerd here. Love the content.
There's actually an excellent answer for the type of sword you should get for training. The answer is, ask your sensei....
I study Toyama Ryu Battojutsu. We use Bokken, but those that have been practicing longer use iaito. Those that have been here the longest will use shinken to practice kata.
I do iaido here in Prague. It's similar in most iaido dojos; what differs is the speed one progresses from one to the other. In our dojo we only train with bokken instead of a sword for about half a year. Then iaito is in order and only people at about the 4th dan and higher ever graduate to shinken, so a very small percentage.
Hmmm, are we sure the aluminum zinc blades exist for ANY real reason besides Japanese law? Would Japanese Iaido peeps use them if they didn't have to?
You mentioned selling the Japanese made iaito. Was that a passing thought or a serious consideration? What is the nagasa?
Is the japanese made iato still available?
I'm not sure if I fully understand the purpose or application of an aikuchi katana, do you have one and could you maybe explain it?
I have shirasaya katana bit none iof those you mentioned. The Aikuchi Katana looks like a regular katana but without a tsuba. ‘Aikuchi’ is a style of mounting in which the tsuka and the saya meet without a tsuba in between. Originally used on the koshigatana (a precursor to the wakizashi) to facilitate close wearing with armor, it became a fashionable upper-class mounting style for tanto from the Kamakura period onwards.
@@thedojomartialarts Thank you sword friend, that was much more information than I could get from a google search. 👍
