I will say Evolutions started my sealed booster collection in 2020. Starting with that set, I have boosters of every set and ETBs of every special set that followed. It was a fun set to open for the memories, but the non-holo rares were straight up garbage. I had started making very inconsistent Pokemon TCG RUclips content in 2013 opening vintage when it was super cheap, but it wasn't until Pokemon Go came out in 2016 that I really got back into it and Evolutions happened to be in the right place at the right time. After watching RUclipsrs opening all the Sun & Moon sets from 2017-2020, along with the first few Sword & Shield sets, I ended up buying a third Evolutions box solely for keeping it sealed. A week later the price skyrocketed and the addiction and spending began lol
Shiny Vert ordered twice from my TCGPlayer store. The first time he ordered about $20 worth of cards and claimed they never came. And then the second time was another $20 order and he said every single card came damaged. He sent me a picture of a ripped up envelope with no pictures of any cards expecting a refund. When I gave him little pushback after I refunded him, he left me a 1 out of 5 star review and called me weird. I had to contact TCGPlayer to remove his feedback. Definitely got a fat block from me after that. He's a great scammer! I wonder where he got the cards for the mystery packs from 🤔
Evolutions isn’t for the OG collectors. Anyone who has been in the hobby pre pandemic generally dislikes it. Only people I ever hear praise evolutions or go crazy over it are the newer collectors. People who never saw pre pandemic prices in vintage or the fact evolutions product used to constantly be on discount at Walmart lmao. They get the nostalgia factor even though the actual product is garbage for the most part.
Yeah if verts selling these "god packs" separate (v pack 11.99) theyre baaaaaad 3 bucks maybe in value, maybe theres better god packs but unfortunately they line up with vert reviews floating around out there. Its disappointing, the lack of care for the god packs is unreal, dude couldnt even use a penny sleeve on each cards. This kind of practice not sleeving cards is for bulk and this kinda tells me vert see the cards as such. Still like you, im a singles guy dont even like gambling on pokemon packs. Overall though 11.99 is atrocious based on what ryan opened. Vert needs to step it up.

The mystery pack stuff is always so interesting because it's basically just a bigger gamble than simply opening packs lol. Idk, I don't do them really but I know people like that chance. To each their own as long as you can afford the gamble lol
Shiny Vert should go back to the drawing board with these. The "god pack" is super mid and it's even more of a slap in the face when all the singles he sends you are dynamically sleeved. Looks cheap and lazy.
The appeal of Evolutions, at least for me, isn't so much the nostalgia factor so much as that it has a number of interesting cards not present in Base Set and that it's an interesting look at what Base Set would have looked like (aside from the full arts) had Media Factory handled the localization/printing of English Base Set rather than WOTC (as the layout of Evolutions cards match the layout of Japanese vintage cards and not English vintage cards). It is and will always be overhyped, and does have a lot of issues (they cut a lot of Base Set cards, demoted the Mewtwo to a non-holo rare for some reason (aside from the theme deck and prerelease printings), included Dragonite, Slowbro, and Pidgeot but not other notable Fossil/Jungle mons like Snorlax or Gengar or the Eeveelutions (I just found out that Snorlax was actually included in the set but was a promo card whoops), and included a vintage Base Set Charizard line reprint but not the Venusaur or Blastoise lines), but I still think there's some very worthwhile and unique aspects to the set underneath the surface (the full art Misty/Brock, the Japanese promo Mew, Surfing+Flying Pikachu, Imakuni's Doduo, and notably a reprint of the Ooyama Tropical Mega Battle Exeggutor promo card).
Imagine an Opossum mystery pack featuring assorted Japanese packs (all modern) with the chance of also getting a cool Japanese single from the SW/SH - S/V cycles. I would buy those up.
I thought that it was really weird on the unlistedleaf ones that the silver tier included b&w AND x&y when in most of the others i've seen by now its sun&moon and x&y in one tier and b&w in a separate tier
I opened 10 pokerev packs and absolutely destroyed the odds. 2 silvers and a few reds. Pulled massive bangers including the Zekrom EX full set from next destinies. My opinion is forever biased lol
I think the hype from Evos, aside from zard baiting, also has to do with the role the set played in bringing old collectors back and new collectors in prior to and during the wildlands of 2020. You take away these factors &its a set investors wouldnt even look at if the market behind the set hadnt been pumped by nostagia + Zard. I think Evolutions is interesting due to how these factors play into the state of the set being an enigma when you consider the scope of the contents in the set.
I think if you open your own stuff to avoid whiplash just have one of each color you hand selected to show what you can get then disclaim that they are not part of the 50 per or that these will be going back into them or something
Vert’s product is very meh. You’re paying the same as other mystery packs, but you get one less pack, and “hits” that equal the price of that regular pack that’s missing.
I like the idea of "god packs" he has for little kids if the pricing was a little better. As an add on to these packs it just feels like added cost for the sake of profit.

Not at all a trash set if your not trying to open a base pack with the family. Also as a mystery box seller mostly comics it’s upfront a inventory dump. No gamble of a chase but you should in my opinion give people a bit over they money back cause if they spent 50 n get 50 of someone else’s selection… they might as well have just got it theyself. Minus feebay fees, freeing up space n recouping capitol to reinvest elsewhere if that’s your thing… you should reward the purchaser with over money regardless
You may not see this, but as someone who was a day one Pokémon collector, a fan of the video games as well as the TV series, evolutions was amazing and I missed it because life, so I personally love evolutions, and it's a little expensive but it's less expensive than buying the original sets to get the same exact cards, to put it into some perspective... I totally get the "god pack" thing I just started my channel 2 months ago and I'm already buried in bulk ex and full arts.. I just throw them in as extras in my ebay orders on higher value sales.. if I was doing mystery packs I would probably put these as extras in the green packs to soften the blow of paying $60 for $30 in packs 🤷♂️

I totally get the "god pack" thing I just started my channel 2 months ago and I'm already buried in bulk ex and full arts.. I just throw them in as extras in my ebay orders on higher value sales.. if I was doing mystery packs I would probably put these as extras in the green packs to soften the blow of paying $60 for $30 in packs 🤷♂️

In all honesty vert is a glorified scam artist too tho. Literally every shiny vert mystery box or slab/card packs have had less than like 30-50% value to what u pay. Just don't understand why people don't realize that an call him out more

@@OpossumBud not sure about that. But when u pay 100 for a box an get 20 or 30 dollars back is bad. I watched numerous charizard mystery packs that were 89.99 and literally getting less than 15 to 20 dollars in them. Idk he's just always rubbed me the wrong way. When he first started all kinds of people called him out for scamming. But imo nothing has really changed 🤷

Can we all just be honest. All of these custom creator packs are a heavy gamble for the price. I would not say it is a scam. It is designed for the creator to make money. You can crap on something that is designed for making money. Just don’t buy it. It is definitely better to buy singles. It is your money and your choice at the end of the day
