Im from Marion. When my dad was a teenager the Marion Mets recruited him but since he was so young my grandparents would have had to sign for him. Unfortunately they didn't.
Grew up in Lynchburg, now live in Richmond. Spent A LOT of time riding a motorcycle in southwest VA. It’s God’s country and even more phenomenal on a motorcycle.
I've been there quite a few times. There was a good little eating joint on main street called The Wooden Pickle. I remember that there was history to that building but can't remember what, it's been a minute. So cool to get to see history on this beautiful little town
I kno the wooden pickle lol..& everything else here in Marion. If you enjoyed the histrionic (is tht a word lol) wooden pickle. You should visit the antique shop nearby right there on Main! You can absolutely FEEL the history & they have so many very old & interesting items
Thanks for the great stories of Appalachia. My roots are deep there from birth to this day. This is a wonderful chronicle of the history of this area for now and for the future generations.
Great Job.! My mother's family is from there. I've visited once when I was younger, but plan on visiting again soon. The video has given me insight into the how & why of my character. On the next visit I'll visit the "Crying Tree".
Marion!!! Such a neat little town and I had no idea it had such history to it! I love going to Hungry Mother Park in the summertime and meeting up with family. Such a nice place.
I went to Marion once, just barely getting to the edge of town because it’s where highway 16 ran into the interstate. I had no idea it contained so much!
I've watched all of your videos and thank you for another great glimpse into a fascinating place. Your composition, writing, and story telling is the best. I remember as a kid enjoying that sweet drink in the green glass bottle, pretty cool hearing where it started..
Really glad I found this channel. I was born and raised at the foot of the Blue Ridge in Amherst/Nelson and I live in Lynchburg now. I’ve always been fascinated with SWVA and the Appalachia region. I’ve made many trips out that way since I could drive. Check out Rural Retreat if you haven’t already! Sticking to the soda theme, you can see the grave of Dr. Charles Pepper. If you need any help in the short/long term future with videos in any way, I don’t really have any videographer experience but would love to be able to connect with the region I’ve always called so close to home somehow. Keep up the good work!
I’m really glad I found your channel. They are not many good videos about Appalachia on RUclips. As a tourist from Germany I discovered West Virginia on one of my trips. I really fell in love with WV and eastern Kentucky and I have visited the area several times since then. I like the mixture of friendly people, beautiful nature and the industrial present and past. Looking forward to see more of your great videos. 🙂
Not far from Marion in Tannersville is the home of Billy Wagner another major league pitcher with a smoking fastball. I lived in Tazewell along rt.16 26 miles from Marion but it takes about a hour to get there, love the drive before the back of the dragon now it’s always dangerous but that’s the cost of the tourism industry. Anyways thank you for a glimpse of home much love and many thanks from the Philippines 🇵🇭
Thank you, great video. Have family in Marion. My Dad was score keeper for the Marion Mets through the Lions club. I’ve been told we were at Nolan’s 1st game. Visit as often as I can. Roots run deep in SWVA.
I have a grandparent born there but have never been there myself. THANK YOU for sharing this. It's insight to my history. This is priceless Hahahaha this explains my undying love of Mtn Dew too😜
Wow! A great job on an area not far from home. Marion has a great history. Thanks for sharing your research on this part of Appalachia with us. It is great to be part of Appalachia where many of the first began. Hungry Mother park in Marion and the town itself is worth visiting. Keep the great videos coming.
You always capture such great shots, Josh!! I’ve been to Hungry Mother Park so many times. It’s a beautiful place😍 I never knew all of the history in Marion! So interesting!! You’re doing a beautiful job, truly🤎
Another great trail story...thank you...haven't ever stop or stayed in Virginia.....the beach area might be in our sights this spring / summer...great area
If you would look into Howard Beverly's iron foundry it would be a great story. He has a deep history in Marion. Also HB Beverly's music history, a ton of musical talent to this day.
Thank you for this wonderful video. I really like the balance you strike between the history of the community and the current status and possible direction. These video visits impact me in such a way that I would consider some kind of exploratory trip to the region to more fully experience its beauty and history.
Do you think you could do an episode on Fayetteville, West Virginia? That's the hometown of my mother's family. The town was fought over by both the Union and Confederate armies and held by both at one time.
In my humble opinion: " YOUR finest yet-- if Marions' chamber of commerce/ development doesn't use this video to bolster outside interest, well then those folks just need help."
I have grown up & still live here in marion va..Born & raised. While Marion might be on the fast track ..it has become IMPOSSIBLE To afford Rent here unless you are independently wealthy & likewise very hard to find housing
Thanks for watching! Where should I explore next?

So glad one took the interest in making a video of my home town. Thanks so much . Stay Awesomeness...
You're very welcome!

There will never be another Nolan Ryan. Happy to hear he has some Appalachian related 'roots'.
The Ryan Express is legendary!
Marion!!! Such a neat little town and I had no idea it had such history to it! I love going to Hungry Mother Park in the summertime and meeting up with family. Such a nice place.
It really is! Thanks so much for watching 😊
Oh! Do a video featuring Wise and Big Stone Gap. Those are my great-grandparents stomping grounds; my GGD Emmet Blair, had a country store there.
In the near future!
I went to Marion once, just barely getting to the edge of town because it’s where highway 16 ran into the interstate. I had no idea it contained so much!
Exactly! The vibe one gets from the interstate is unremarkable compared to all this great little town is home to!

I haven't had Mountain Dew in a long time. You just made me want to get one!
😆

So cool the history of Mt. Dew! Can you do one now of Ale-8-One!?! Every time I travel back to KY I have to stock up in my childhood soda.
Haha, well perhaps, I've also had someone ask about Dr. Pepper. Thanks for watching!

In time 😉
Mountain Dew first formulated in Knoxville Tennessee
I was born and raised here.

Great story about the whiskey though
In my humble opinion: " YOUR finest yet-- if Marions' chamber of commerce/ development doesn't use this video to bolster outside interest, well then those folks just need help."
Well, thank you for the feedback! They have a very pleasant Appalachian town that's certainly worth exploring!!
Come to south eastern ky and eastern kentucky
I've done a few episodes there, be sure to check them out. Planning to come back and explore other areas too!
Celtic music was born in Marion, Virginia? I think the Irish might have something to say about that.
No, just the mountain version mainly of Bluegrass- and that not just in Marion but in the Appy region 😉
@@MountainRoots Ah, okay. :)
👍
I have grown up & still live here in marion va..Born & raised. While Marion might be on the fast track ..it has become IMPOSSIBLE To afford Rent here unless you are independently wealthy & likewise very hard to find housing
Think that's because of development or simply the inflation in rents across the board the past few years? 🤔
THATS MY HOME TOOOWWN RAAAAH THE HOSPITAL AND SCHOOLS ARE HORRIBLE RAAHH!!
Ask. You got any white.
??
@@MountainRoots my grandfather and my family called white. No mountain dew. Same thing just different part of country.
