Hey to those interested in Jeans mounting and pinning methods she goes into greater detail and specifics about the materials she uses in her Floss Tubes 24 and 25-very interesting 😊
I wish you a quick recovery and that you are back on your feet very soon. I also hope the fires in our area are completely over before you start your trips. The samplers you are creating for those trips are beautiful. I appreciate your floss tubes because I learn so much from you.
Hi Jean. Hope you are on the mend and feel better soon. I was so happy to watch today’s video to show me exactly what to do to prepare my finished birthday gift piece that has been sitting here for a week…. Now I feel very confident to proceed and fully finish it today! Greetings 🇨🇦😀
Hi Jean , hope you heel quickly and are back on your feet soon, No pun intended, well maybe it was, I know what being confined to a chair is when I had my knee replacement, just had to make sure I had everything I wanted to work on, read, etc. For the day close by in case no one was around at the time. Loved this tutorial on preparing to frame your needlework project, it just made so much sense, I had done all y own framing years ago and certainly did not know what I was doing, right down to removing tape residue, so I formative and so appreciative of your time in sharing your knowledge,, thanks so much, Hoping all goes well and will be all ready for your train trips, can’t wait to see what fun your adventures will bring you! Cheers and get well soon!
Wonderful news on the number of videos. I have been watching since the beginning and have learned so much. Glad you are on the mend from your foot surgery. Thanks for showing how to pin a piece on the acid free foam core board.
This was a great refresher on how you pin stitching. I often eyeball it and it's close but not as exact as we need just as your first basting showed. If we spend a much time stitching things, they deserve a nice finish! This could also be done when making pillow finishes too!
Hope you get better soon! And thank you so much for the pinning class. I find it so intimidating, I don’t know why. I need to try with simple items until I get comfortable. Thank you for your time!!
Thank you this tutorial was very informative. The basting makes it much easier to center on the board while pinning. I will definitely try this method. I hope you are feeling better soon 💕
Great tutorial on pinning a stitched piece in preparation to framing. I also see the wisdom of putting stitches on the 4 sides of the piece to determine where the foam board edges are. Also appreciate the calculations in order to centre the piece correctly. I haven't framed my work myself before so this is so helpful. I've always had them professionally framed and left everything to the framer. This gives me a better appreciation of the work they do and a more educated perspective on the process. Thank you Jean. Here's to your speedy recovery. Stay safe ❤
I hope you feel better quickly. I am glad you were able to get this problem with your foot taken care of so you can fully enjoy your trip in October. I wanted to say thank you for your tutorial on pinning. I have a piece all finished and ready to frame and I am going to give this a try.
Awesome video Jean…hope you are feeling better…I love the video and pattern…The Big Horn and the Eagle…thanks for the reference to Yevette Stanton FlossTuber of White threads… her various books and explaining the twist in threads…wishing you wellness and happy stitching/designing…have a great recovery❤️
Congratulations Jean on your one year FlossTube anniversary! I am a self taught cross stitcher and have returned to the craft after many years. There is so much more available in terms of variety of patterns, fabrics, floss as well as all the FlossTubes. While I enjoy a number of FlossTubes, I find yours to be the most educational. I also appreciate the shorter length of your videos and the quality camera work of your tutorials. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with all of us. Keep up the good work and best wishes for a speedy recovery.
Jean prayers for s speedy recovery. I learn something new with each of your episodes, and esp love the fact that you challenge we stitches to think for our selves and research. Excellent work!
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! You took the mystery I’ve been pondering out of my life! I now think I can start finally finishing something. I have many projects to mount stacked up in my sewing room. My husband wants to make my frames and he keeps asking me when I’ll have something ready for him. Tomorrow I will!
Jean I hope you're feeling better quickly. Again thank you so much for your video and thoughts. It's a pleasure to listen to you. The patterns you're working on for the trips ahead are awesome!!!
Congratulations on ONE YEAR of Flosstube! Thanks for your tips on getting a piece ready for the framer! I'm going to check out Evette Stanton's flosstube next. Praying for your speedy recovery, Jean.
Jean. Thank you for these videos that you have made. I am very thankful that you say that stitching should be fun. So many people state that you should do this or that for your project to be good and that takes the fun out of stitching. I will see you in April because that shop is very close to me. Again thank you for the time you put in to the floss tube videos.
Every week I look forward to your video for that week. I’m relatively new to cross-stitch, well, not exactly, I used to do cross-stitch decades ago and have gotten back into it ~ it sure has changed and I’m so enjoying it! I appreciate your videos because of how educational they are and they are done so well. I’m going back and watching all your video’s (slowly) because I want to learn as much as I can. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and love the craft. Take care of your foot! ❤️
Once again an excellent FT and so enjoyable. Another one that is going into the SAVED file. I found your explanation of Pinning/Mounting to be extremely useful. I have been stitching for over 40 years almost exclusively as a hobby. I have many, many unframed or otherwise unfinished pieces that are sitting in 2 drawers in my bedroom in my chest of drawers. I have never had such a comprehensive explanation of how to mount a finished piece of needlework. I will now be able to start working on this aspect of needlework. Thank you again Jean.
Thank you for demonstrating how you prepare your piece for framing. Very helpful! Hope your foot is on the mend! I will check out Yvette's channel. Thanks!
Brilliant video (as ever!). Thank you for putting me in a happy frame of mind this Sunday morning. I send positive thoughts for your foot to heal quickly.
I have come back to stitching after 30 yrs, and found it so different, all the new fabrics & threads, Aida was the desired & available cloth. I found I’m way out of practice and not as good, because of you I have the courage to continue and slow down and get it right. I found a pattern in my collection to my surprise “Remember Me” by Barb of Blackbird Designs. I have never tackled lettering. I am so pleased with my progress, I just sit and stare at it. Thank you Jean for these wonderful informative videos, you are an excellent instructor.
Congratulations on your one year anniversary and I hope you have a speedy recovery. Sounds like you are going to be busy. I have learned a lot from your videos. Thank you! I watched the thread twist video and thought it was brilliant. Didn't realize you are in NC - I'm just under an hour east of Raleigh.
Congratulations on a whole year of flosstube! I’ve enjoyed everyone. It is so wonderful that you will be coming to Hobby House. I’ll be sure to sign up. Wishing you a speedy recovery.
Praying your foot heals quickly. Thank you for a wonderful year of informative stitching. I like watching floss tube for the entertainment of it, but especially like when I actually come away with learning something new. Thank you for sharing all your knowledge with us. I have a piece that I just finished and will be trying the pinning you did today. Just need to find those pins.
I applaud myself for due diligence at keeping very close track on how much time I spend on the treadmill.😊 p.s…Drs orders, “keep your feet up”… and “can stitch comfortably with my feet elevated”… Seems like a match!!! Woo-hoo!
Thanks for sharing, I always learn something when I watch you....thank you so much for taking the time to video and share with us...take care and be careful this summer..
Wow, amazing what a difference to the overall block changing the motifs around made. Thank you for the tutorial on the Kindness piece, you did a great restoration job. Hope your recovery goes smoothly as I know you have a lot of traveling coming up. Happy stitching.
Thank you so very much for this video. It’s so helpful. You really revamped that design, didn’t you, but at least it’s something more pleasing to the eye and you’re happy with it.🥰
Once I decide to rip out a major area, I just do it and don't look back. It's especially rewarding when the re-stitch makes such a positive difference.
I hope you recover quickly and pleasantly and I wish I could afford to sit and stitch I don't have near enough time I enjoy watching your episodes and I know the whole time I'm watching your episode I'm thinking I should be sitting but I'd rather watch your episode and I always learn something new and I want to thank you for that
What an amazing episode. They all are! Congratulations 🎉 on a year. I just love your calming voice and teachable skills. I am going to try your thread method next time I frame a piece. I am always trying to find the best method that works for me finding the center and even sides of the fabric. Thanks a million 😊
Hello Jean, glad to see you taking care of yourself. Enjoyed your video on pinning for framing again. Trying for 30 minutes, Will see how I do. Thanks Jean
Loved this video!!! Very helpful information. I’m praying that your recovery goes well. I’ve had foot surgeries so I can relate. 😇You filmed a great video👍🏻
Thank you for sharing "pinning" I have a few "smalls" I'm going to try to frame myself. I saw 2 great floss tubes on mitering corners prior to finishing, one with Vonna (Twisted Sister) and Danielle (Stitcherista) both do beautiful finishing work. Keep on stitchin' on. ✂🧵💜
Congratulations on your one year UTube Anniversary!! You have shared a wealth of information with us. Thank you❣️ Kindness is a pretty little piece! Has it been released?
Jean, it's been a great year learning from you. Congratulations! Thank you for pointing me to Yvette Stanton and her channel. Some of us may enjoy her #27 video titled "Investigating the way cross stitches cross". This is along your suggestion that you can change your stitch technique as you stitch i.e., Victorian, English, Dutch etc. to make the piece work for you.
Hi Jean. Wishing you a speedy recovery from you r surgery. Hope all goes well. I found Yvette Stantons channel just the other day and it is a wealth of information. I do have a question regarding your framing method. When you have everything all lined up and ready to baste your lines could you pull a thread out where the basting line would go rather than stitch all the way around the piece. I frame my pieces exactly the same way that you do and have often thought about just removing a thread to mark the margins. Would doin that effect the integrity of the piece. Or make it harder to have the pins hold things in place. Thank you for taking the time to make these wonderful videos.
I used to do it that way until the one time I found that I hadn't measured quite accurately enough and wished I had pulled a different thread. Also, the basted line is easier for the eye to follow. And, depending on the size of the project, pulling a thread could put some wrinkles back into the piece. Anyway, through trial and error, this basting method has (so far!) been the most efficient overall. :)
Hi Jean! Thank you for your pinning tutorial. It can be very time consuming and fiddly to get it right. In your last episode you mentioned having stitched a basting line along one thread, and I used that in my recent finish. It definitely helped! I have never heard of sequin pins nor artist tape, so those look like good tools to have. I do not leave the pins in. I often use mat board or a sticky board, and it is not thick enough to hold a full pin. They just stay in place long enough for me to tape or glue it down and then I remove them. I like your method! I am going to have to think about converting as that looks easier than what I have been doing. When I had cut my fabric and not left myself enough for the board I wanted to use in my frame, I simply sewed some more fabric to the edges. That can also work.
Congratulations on the anniversary! I will pray for your recovery. May you please, spell the name of the white board you pin your design on in the description box under one of your next videos? I am not a native English speaker and it would be great to know the right name of the right board for framing. Thanks!
Best wishes for continued healing. I just happened to tune in to your first Floss Tube and I haven't missed one since! I do have a couple of questions on framing: do you ever use padding under your needlework, in between the foam core and fabric? Do you ever finish an item as a flat fold? Thanks for your great tutorials and tips.
"Back in the day" there was a trend to pad the needlework so I am sure I did it somewhere along the line. I think it adds a nice touch on some styles of needlework ... like maybe something for a nursery ... but I wouldn't use it on a sampler or something primitive. I do use a fabric underlining when framing whitework, but it's not padding. I am working on some things now that will be perfect for flat folds so look for that coming in the next few months.
In this day of easy access to information on the internet, I start with Google! There are so many different types of whitework techniques and hundreds of stitches, so it's hard to point you to one source without knowing more.
Congratulations on your flosstube anniversary! Also Thankyou so much for the pinning tutorial again-it is very informative! But I was wondering when you are pinning, can you also start at the corners since you’ve measured the linen and ease in dividing up the spaces?
Hi Jean, I hope you don’t mind me asking you a question here but I am getting conflicting answers. I am relatively new to cross stitch and I want to try a pattern on 28 count evenweave. What is the best size needle to use? A calculator I used said a 28 but google says a 24! Thanks for any help you can give me.
I am not so much a stickler on assigning a certain needle size to a certain count fabric but here is what I generally say: always use a tapestry needle (not an embroidery needle) and choose the size based on both the thread you are stitching with and the fabric you are stitching on. Here are the questions to ask yourself: can you easily thread the needle with the strands you are using? Does the needle pierce the fabric without making the holes noticeably larger? If the answers to both questions is "yes" then you have found the right size needle.
Just curious what color and count fabric you used for your America cross stitch? This is the stitch that is usually hanging behind you on the wall. Bought the pattern and the floss, ready to go besides the fabric. Thank you for all your informative and varied you tubes!
I am not certain about the color or manufacturer of the fabric I used on the recent project but there is a good chance that it was Zweigart 28-count linen in an off white. I stitched it “over two” so it was 14-stitches-per-inch. (I stitched the original model on 14-count ecru Aida ... that one was lost in transit.)
@@JeanFarishNeedleworks Thank you so much! I was hoping you were going to say Aida, which is my favorite. So I will proceed with Aida, can’t wait to get started! It’s a big project for sure.
I don't know the brand off hand (and I am now away from my supplies with my foot elevated so I can't go look) but if you shop for acid free artists tape you'll be fine.
I can’t tell you how calm you speak. It relaxes me. God bless you in all your endeavors.
Thank you! 😊

I am going to have to think about converting as that looks easier than what I have been doing.
When I had cut my fabric and not left myself enough for the board I wanted to use in my frame, I simply sewed some more fabric to the edges. That can also work.
Since I stitch in hand, the lack of extra fabric wasn't an issue until I was ready to frame it :)
PS to my earlier comment: thank you for the Yvette Stanton heads up. Very interesting. I have subscribed.
Great!
Congratulations on the anniversary! I will pray for your recovery. May you please, spell the name of the white board you pin your design on in the description box under one of your next videos? I am not a native English speaker and it would be great to know the right name of the right board for framing. Thanks!
I am trying to remember to be more descriptive and I appreciate your question. I use acid free foam board. It is also sometimes called foam core.
@@JeanFarishNeedleworks Yes, I see you are doing great job! Thank you 👍
Happy 1st Anniversary 🎈
Thank you!!
Hope you get well soon or rather fast healing for your foot. I am taking part in Roxie SAL. Where has the time gone it seems like we just started it.
I know what you mean! When we started, the end seemed so far off!
I have purchased my first project with some white work stitches. Where would you suggest I go to see tutorials regarding the stitches?
In this day of easy access to information on the internet, I start with Google! There are so many different types of whitework techniques and hundreds of stitches, so it's hard to point you to one source without knowing more.
Congratulations on your flosstube anniversary! Also Thankyou so much for the pinning tutorial again-it is very informative! But I was wondering when you are pinning, can you also start at the corners since you’ve measured the linen and ease in dividing up the spaces?
Do you mean pin two corners of the same side and work between them? That sounds workable. I might have to try it.
@@JeanFarishNeedleworks yes that’s what I was thinking…
Thank you so much for your reply, that has been most helpful.
Take good care of yourself!
Thank you!
What is the brand of the artist tape? Thanks
I don't know the brand off hand (and I am now away from my supplies with my foot elevated so I can't go look) but if you shop for acid free artists tape you'll be fine.
Thank you for another wonderful tutorial! Happy healing!
I have a question: Does your framing include spacers and glass ? Thank you.
I have the framer add a spacer if I do not use a mat. When I use mats, they create the space needed between the needlework and the glass.
@@JeanFarishNeedleworks Thank you for the information. Have a wonderful weekend!
