Chester was a genuinely good person with a tender heart. It's sad that those are the people this world tends to chew up and spit out. The world is lesser without him.
My daughter loves to play this song on the piano and sing to it. She was suffering from a major depression in her teenage years. We parents are very thankful that this particular star is still shining.
I'm a Marine combat veteran. I lost 3 of my Marine brothers to their own hands. This is my daughter's favorite band. Listening to the songs with her and taking her to their concerts is what we bonded over when she was in her tweens. We still love to hear Chester sing when we get together. NEVER FORGOTTEN USMC
Lets be real… Chaz didn‘t had a solution for a short term problem/situation. He battled his whole life. Depression are not just a situation. They real, they hurt you, they can hurt you harder then every bad word or punch in the world. This unending saddnes and pain… it can destroy you… it will destroy you. We all knew Chaz was in a dark dark place, everbody did. But.. nobody believed that he was that much in the darkness. He saved so many people… but we could‘nt save him. And now its our job, the LP Family, to watch out for all of us, our friends, family, even strangers… to #MakeChesterProud
From UK This band saved my life, ive suffered from depression all my life and the day i woke up to Chester losing his battle absolutely destroyed me. I would have happily took his place so he could carry on saving so many people. R.I.P Chester, you will always be loved and missed by so many people.
As quiet as this song is, it hits heavy. I tried playing it for someone and they couldn’t listen to it, because they lost a sibling to cancer. Heavy on the heart.
Such a heartbreaking song. Depression is no joke. I have battled it for a very long time, but I'm very lucky to have found a good therapist which helps greatly. Therapy is highly recommended to all who suffer, and my love goes out to all of you ❤️
The best version of this is the live version where the song got its true meaning. The meaning it has now, was not the meaning it had when written. But shortly after Chris Cornell took his own life, LP performed this song, and Chester dedicated it to him, his best friend. Sitting on the stage with sunglasses trying to get through the song, and you can hear the pain. And now, its also connected to Chester himself. He took his life on Chris birthday. A day he choose carefully no doubt. And now this song is to those two legends, and a reminder of their bond and friendship. And how having that can help you in the dark times, and losing it can leave you in a struggle you dont know how to get through.
After returning home from our last deployment, my two best friends made the choice to “Turn out their lights”. It’s been a struggle since. It’s hard to get out of your head when your brothers aren’t with you anymore. Tough reaction but as always a great one. Thanks Maddy!
I heard this on the day it was released on my way home from work, it just happened to be on the day of what would have been mine and my wifes 17yr anniversary . Lost her to cancer in 2015, and only 6 months after loosing my dad. It hit hard, needed to pull over and collect myself. All LP songs just hit me different now, even more now with having tried ending my life on 2 occasions
It’s difficult to watch anything from LP now. I’m just now able to even attempt it. LP was a huge part of some of the most difficult years of my life. RIP Chester 😢
People don't realize that everyone is different and each person has a breaking point of how much grief and misery he/ she can take... I remember as a teen when Kurt Cobain of Nirvana took his life in 1994, that was traumatizing and left me w/ so many questions. But the fact is that he was in anguish, and even fame & fortune could not solve any of the problems that had plagued his life. Same thing w/ Layne Staley of Alice In Chains. He was slower to disappear... he fell into drug abuse and had no hope left by 1996 after his longtime girlfriend Demri died. He descended into obscurity and was found dead in 2002 from an OD. Chris Cornell of Soundgarden (and Audioslave) had been struggling w/ depression since the 80's... his lyrics were always about his bleak mentality. He wrote 'The day I tried to live' in 1994... 'Pretty noose' in 1996... His Audioslave songs were equally dark - 'Like a stone'... 'Show me how to live'... And his 1999 solo song "Can't change me" summed up his attitude... At some point in 2017, he couldn't take the same pattern of hopelessness over and over again and took his own life. Chester Bennington of Linkin Park was also the same way... he also struggled w/ alcoholism and past sexual trauma... He was married w/ kids, and all seemed well, but his 2nd wife Talinda did reveal years later that there were signs and incidents that he wasn't coping well w/ his own life. It's hard for those who do not understand depression and pain that contributes to suicides... Mike Howe, lead singer of Metal Church, took his own life in 2021... it came as a shock. The simple truth is that not everyone is either prepared or equipped to deal w/ dire circumstances that come in life and the lack of empathy and understanding from friends and loved ones does not help...
*When it comes to people suffering from depression too much alone time can end up with a bad result. **#Chester** himself said when he's alone was when it was hardest if you stay active so try to stay engaged with those who wall themself off thinking they won't be missed*
Listen to the song again it’s hard after his passing at his own hand because it seemed like it was almost like him, asking for help as of his life is the one that was going out, and he needed one more light to help him
Sometimes it’s long term problems unfortunately, trauma compounds when horrible things keep happening and you haven’t been able to heal from the first one. It’s harder when you don’t have any friends, which happens sometimes when you’re in your 30s nearing 40
They performed this as a tribute for Chester's bestfriend Chris Cornell who took his own life, months later Chester would take his own on Chris's birthday. Chester was also the godfather to Chris's son. Very tragic and the world will forever miss them
The song was originally written for a friend of the band who passed from cancer, then later sung in tribute for chris, and eventually the video being dedicated to chester. An extremely tragic timeline.
It’s often the most empathetic and gentle people who are genuinely hurt or wounded the most. Chester was an absolute treasure and to this day he is very sorely missed
Written for band friend Amy zaret who passed of cancer .To start each day I take 1000mg of abiraterone acetate and 5MG ofpredniSONE (Stage 4 cancer) just to stay here longer ! You can choose to fight ! Gods Blessings be with you all ! 💓
...this song helped me a lot after my 21 year old son executed his permenent decision two years ago. I tried to talk to him, tried to open a door for him express himself, but "every thing is fine" , he said
I lost my best friend the same way in 2018 and I blamed myself at first but don’t anymore but I heard this song right after and it broke me he was the clown of the friend group Alta telling all the jokes and I’ve been depressed for a long time
*#Maddy** is beautiful & I wish you all the success, but while you're channel is still growing it's nice to see you read & respond to most comments. With growth soon that won't be possible so here's a pre-congratulations*
Good video. But one thing, don't say things like "long term solution to a short term problem". Depression isn't a short term problem for many, many people. It's a constant their entire lives. Not everyone of course. But saying that quote isn't very helpful. I use to say it when I was younger without thinking about it. But now, living with depression myself, I understand why that isn't something to say to people. Just something to keep in mind is all
Lots my brother 3 yrs ago and have been feeling lost these past few weeks. Was at a bbq today with lots of people and yet I felt alone. I really wanted to (use) again but didn't.
I mean It's not easy how to handle things like this, but I think and hope we will start giving more respect to dead people, and not just do what is easy : :(
Ive been sick with an incurable disease that is resistant to all the known treatments for 12 years now. All i do is suffer everyday. I dont want to die. I want relief.
Depression isn't short term when u live with it everyday. It just gets worse with age..there's a difference in just feeling depressed ( that's short term) clinical depression is an issue in the brain and it doesn't go away.u might find something to help it but it finds its way back to u 10 times worse than before and u slowly just lose strength. Being trapped in your head , u know u are trapped in your thoughts which are terrible but u can't pull yourself out .it's hard to explain unless u have it
I sure hope that you have a better understanding of people who are suicidal than you originally did when you made this video. I think you did a pretty good job overall, but like most people who seem to exist without those kind of thoughts, it is hard to connect in a meaningful way with those of us that do have them.
Hopefully by now you know the back story of the song, as well as the reason they performed it on Kimmel that morning, when you can pull up the live version you'll really appreciate it. And that this video was a tribute video after the passing of Chester
If you hear me talk about death or wishing I didn't exist, or you read it in a message or a letter I wrote, know that I'm okay. When I stop is when you should start worrying.
You know what's this song is givin me?a freaking headache and most likely nightmares.were afraid to hear the lyrics.try red hot chilli peppers give it away!
Hi Maddy. I've requested you listen to hallow be thy name by cradle of filth. And any song from Deftones please. And Linkin park, Chester's words and voice saved my life In my teens I attempted a few times came close to leaving this world but this band made me see things differently. R.I.P Chester

Yeah sure you can tell people to go outside and touch grass or smell flowers but you can't force anybody to do anything for some people they're simply too far gone and they have to make decisions for themselves.

Think I’ve been spiraling since 2014 when I had brain surgery, I’m 26 now and feel empty, worthless and hopeless 🙃💔

Maddy, Love this reaction video.
Thank you!! 🤗
You need to check out their version that was on the Jimmy Fallon show. It was a tribute to Chris Cornell who was a close friend to Chester m
Nice
please dont talk about "short term problems" ... this comment is exactly why depression is still taboo in our society.

Exactly, been dealing with it my whole life and simply hanging out with friends or touching the grass is not a solution.
Nice reaction.
Thank you 😁
Peter Hollens did an amazing tribute to Linkin Park you should definitely check out. Great reaction, Mandy!❤️

I bet you watch One More Light Faded music video. That version is epic.

Highly recommended reaction: Over Again by Mike Shinoda (the rapper from Linkin Park). Also a tough one but it's powerful.
