The Jetta becomes Volkswagen's first car to wear the hybrid badge. MotorWeek's John Davis has the road test review of the 2013 Volkswagen Jetta Hybrid.
Looking at VW then and now, it's like night and day. I honestly forgot about VW tapped into the hybrid market. It's beautiful inside and out. Unfortunately, it was overshadowed by the Prius. I think VW should have explored hybridization across the entire lineup. Diesel definitely dented VW.
I've owned this car for almost 10 years. Best car I've ever owned and my average mileage overall after 100k miles is about 35 mpg! Think about that... overall mileage is 35. I fill up every 2-3 weeks and when you think about it, how many cars (or SUV's) can you drive with that mileage? And it's still a fun car to drive, like just about every VW.
It takes premium gas so any little fuel savings there is (which 35 MPG to me for a hybrid is on the lower end of fair), that extra cost for gas negates it.
Great observation. I still think its a better alternative to electric and honestly, going to hang onto this car no matter what, still the best driver. I see Lincoln in your name and imagine its for that dependable car. Close friend always used the Lincoln for his car service @@Lincolnator721
@@toddelliott3239 I really like the combination of a turbocharger and a hybrid system. Driving a vehicle with these features must be an amazing experience. I believe it is the most comfortable car in its class, especially since it's a Volkswagen, which I have a preference for. If it wasn't for Peter Schreyer, who used to design for Volkswagen and now designs for Kia, I wouldn't be driving a Kia Soul right now. Peter Schreyer designed both the interior and exterior of the 2014-2019 Kia Soul, as far as I know. I currently drive a 2015 Kia Soul, and its interior comfort is very similar to that of a Volkswagen. It was quite challenging to find an affordable economy car that fits me well, considering I'm 6'3" tall. Surprisingly, this 2015 Kia Soul is even more comfortable than a 1989 Lincoln Town Car in the interior ergonomics department, although it has a rougher ride, more interior noise, and less space. It gives me a fuel efficiency of 26-32 MPG, but it drops to 27 MPG on the interstate. Sometimes I regret not keeping the Town Car, as it got 24 MPG on the interstate. These days, I don't trust Lincoln for used cars, especially anything made after 2008 due to issues with the internal water pump and transmission. Some people have made fun of my username in the past, mocking Lincoln as being unreliable. They don't need to tell me, but it's true that Lincoln hasn't always been considered unreliable. Some people don't seem to believe me when I tell them that limousine companies ran the Town Cars up to 500k miles and sometimes even more.
They got it wrong, it's not a 2L engine it's a 1.4L turbo four. I really wish they would just do some plug in hybrid TDI vehicles like the XL1 super efficiency car's drive train in a vehicle that is roomier and "normal" 80-100mpg would be awesome :)
I have a tdi and I could care less about the emissions. there have been times when I refuel once a MONTH. i'll take that, thanks. 40mpg and torque that smokes people off the line, I love it every single day.
Gas engines are, in truth, better than diesel engines. Just can't get around the chemistry. Diesels burn hotter, and therefore make more NOx, the worst pollutant. Gas engines have low emissions of all pollutants, not just one: NOx, hydrocarbons, and CO. The higher compression ratio of the diesel just can't make up for how much more it pollutes.
I see you have poor reading comprehension. I'll state it again, simply: diesels aren't as good as gas engines. Didn't say anything about a scam. They work, just not as well and therefore gas engines are a better choice.
Love the car, but don't even get me started on those silly and stupid Buenos Aires rims. Love all hybrids, except for the 2010-2014 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid bc it looks atrocious and hideous.
diesel is still the way to go my friend has a VW TDI GOLF and we get 50mpg on the highway and about 43 in the city we average 45mpg over all all the hybrids claim they get 45mpg or more with the EPA testing but in real world they dont get those numbers and hybrids don't do well on the highway with fuel economy
ok well first of all it's you're*. and second, it's the way you presented yourself. does a car have to look like a hyandai to excite you? personally i'm turned off by cars that try to target the youth market.
“Just as friendly to you as it is to the environment”
VW “CleanDiesel” TDI: Hold that thought
LOL! Just seeing this now.

Wait.... They built this because diesel prices are high....Then then they make it take premium gas....???

I wonder how is the reliability on this hybrid Jetta???
Other than electronics (window actuator) I have had no problems and everything else was under warranty.
Next VW hybrid = Passat W8 engine with 4-inline gas in one bank, 4-inline diesel in another, with hybrid+turbo+supercharger+intercooler
Great news they don't have the Kitzmillers and we have to thank them for busting that port dale thing.
I have a highline jetta hybrid... love it
What about the break feeling ? Is there a vibration or a resistance ?
Love ya John !:) got the Jetta Bc of your review

And also, the narrator read 'i4' instead of 'L4' regarding the engine cylinder layout (longitudinal / straight 4)... lol

teknokrat1 whats the point of “smoking people off the line”?
Glad I watched this review. I will have to give this some more research.
Wait a hybrid with a DSG?! Nice
You said you wouldn't buy anything VW produces....they produce Audi. So yes I did read your comment.
its not a scam we use bio diesel its a clean source of fuel
they do have a concept TDI Hybrid
Lol the test driver is all dressed up and wearing a helmet in a hybrid
Nice car!

my friend got a TDI i really want to trade my Jetta in for one also gonna wait a few years though
Still waiting for TDI hybrid
Don't know if it'll happen.
Totally agree... I
You realize VW owns Audi and the A3 is just a Golf in Audi clothing right?

high diesel prices? nonsense.
Audi has one of the worst reliability records of any luxury car maker duhhh. But thanks for calling me kiddo :)
hecho en mexico
I WAS fan of Volkswagen.
And like the Kitzmillers said. and the hat is now known for the hat the Catholic Church beat the women in.
Love the car, but don't even get me started on those silly and stupid Buenos Aires rims. Love all hybrids, except for the 2010-2014 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid bc it looks atrocious and hideous.
Apart from pollutants...explain to me why diesel's are the scam of the century?

go buy a scion then, what are you 15?
