- Alex L. Dykes takes the fuel-sipping 2013 VW Jetta Hybrid for a drive. Check our video out as we look at the infotainment options, talk engines, transmissions, compare the Jetta Ford C-MAX, Civic Hybrid and the Prius. We of course hop in the trunk for our exclusive TCI (Trunk Comfort Index) and 0-60 test it.

Wow a reviewer that actually knows his shit.
Alex - you are the best auto journalist by far. Your videos are always on point and in-depth as they come.
Thank you for your fantastic videos. 🍻
Best reviewer I've ever heard. Thank you.
someone needs to make a TDI hybrid
Excellent review - thanks for this really thorough summing up of aspects which are important to me, including comparisons, engine and drive feel. I'm looking forward to the next iteration of this hybrid.
As an owner of a VW beetle, I'd buy the Civic over the Jetta, because Honda is rated #1 in engine reliability and VW is rated near-last (#40 or so)
.
We talk about stock tires for a few reasons. Depending on the tire they can last for up to 60,000 miles so the average driver would have them on the car for 5+ years. Tires have a huge impact on fuel economy and handling, so you need to keep that in mind when comparing. Lastly we're told by most manufacturers that the majority of buyers replace OE tires with the same brand or substantially similar tires when they do end up buying new rubber.
Fantastic review. Thank you!!
Thank you for covering the middle seating position in cars you review. I have three kids and that position seems often overlooked by journalists and car makers alike.
Great review.
I actually had a 2012 Civic Hybrid before getting a 2013 Jetta Hybrid and as far as drive is concerned the Jetta definitely takes the cake. (Interior as well as he mentioned)
I'll add one to our list!
i live in canada and have this exact blue coloured jetta hybrid highline and I LOVE IT. it gets me great mpg on the highway and city...
The break pedal feel is not too weird ?
you are right i have this in highline... great leather, even the leathertte is nice i test drove the one with leatherette still nice though
hi, thanks for the great review! i know it's not the same thing, but comparing to the prius which would you recommend? thanks.
I'm going back and forth between this and the Prius myself.
The trunk fits a body. Looks like I'm buying haha.
Owned a Prius since 2008, other then "recall" items and minor maintenance, it has worked great. Rolling up on 100k as I write but think I'm going to hold onto it, 2.5k vice 25 or 30k it's still efficient. Watching this video, when most of the comparison was to the Honda, I don't remember any discussion of the Prius, so I'm assuming that there was NO comparison. I am considering another Prius as I really do like them and they've punched up the looks a little bit.
Tough choice. Be sure to spend as much time sitting in each one to see which fits you best. The Jetta has the better handling dynamics but the Sentra has had the best fuel economy in my experience.
As opposed to the USA, in Canada, the Highline trim has leather, where the other trims have only letherette.
Now Alex which car has better seat comfort and is the overall legroom in the Jetta conciderably more than what we get in a Ford Focus, cud u please give an overall score out of 10 for back seats front seats interior etc 2 all cars u review that wud b interesting, The jetta had lot of legroom when i tested it, but its longer car(hate long cars)than a Focus so i am confused between focus and Jetta, i am 5.5" so it was enf but if i had 2 pack a 6 footer can te Focus atleast b as good as Jetta
I loved my Jetta TDI, but with Diesel being at least .60 more per gallon than regular here in Tennessee it makes the TDI less attractive. I'm currently driving a 2010 Fusion Hybrid and get the same MPG in town that I did on the TDI at a lower cost for fuel. I do have a Jetta Hybrid ordered because a new Fusion Hybrid I can only get a black interior with the trim level I want.
I really need help picking a car... i am in between the 2014 jetta. The nissan sentra 2013 or the toyota corolla 2014???
Why don't they have a plug in TDI Hybrid? I would be all over that. Basically the XL1 drive train in a small car like a Golf 3 door? Or maybe with a full 1.6L TDI plug in hybrid?
my dads a mechanic and ive driven bot of these the vw is fun to drive with sporty handling and is fun to drive with a nice interior
prius okay to drive a lot of people say its boring but its actually okay with a tight turning radious plus there will be fewer repairs and a insanely long engine life ts dependable and the prius been on the market for a long time you could buy a 2006 model for as low as 12 grand if I were you id go with the prius
Can you do a Jetta or Passat Diesel?
Solid revie, better than motor trend.
this is one of the only cars which I'd much prefer the prev generation. the prev gen felt like a budget bmw and the current is just a civic computer (I've driven both)
My problem in NY is that diesel fuel costs ~.50c more than regular gas. That is just too much money to overcome to make it worthwhile paying extra for a diesel over the std engine.
How the battery of the car is charge?
+Pastor Samuel Estrada FROM the engine
.
my tdi Passat gets about 47mpg on the interstate
Wrong, GLI Jetta has independent suspension as well.
You left out that the top speed was 130 and the 0-60 time was 8.6 seconds.
I want those LED taillights!
omg !

Only 45 mpg? VW diesels are more efficient.
Poorly fitting sit jacket with baggy jeans. I’ll stick with Tom Volke for car reviews
