As someone who liked ´´Sekcret´´ (at least the NF version), I think that Ronela would have been slaughtered in the Final. Consider the breakdown of her results: she came in 9th in televoting (MUCH weaker than people expected). Furthermore, she was consistently among the bottom five of most juries (who, to be clear, would still be in the final). So, I think that, in the best case scenario, Ronela would get 15th in televoting (maybe)....and bottom five in juries. In the end, her results aren´t much better than Anxela Peristeri in 2021. Of course, this is speculation on my part.
Ronelas Performance wasnt good so why should she get through? Thats exactly the point of juries (not that they always get it right but overall if find the difference they made in semis better than without)
@@gonzalosplaneta5290 I actually did a simulation (using ElectoSIM) to see what would happen if every country received points (not just the top 10). Albania came in 15th.
Albania was in my top 3 from the day Sekret was selected. After the semi-final, Albania wasn't on my list of songs I wanted to qualify. She totally ruined the performance, not just with poor vocals, but that damn stupid hair and the head spinning and it was so poorly orchestrated with bad camera angles. In the end, no matter how much I love the song, it didn't deserve a place in the final.
With this voting system we will see a lot of countries with very low points from jury in the final and we will know which songs wouldn't be in the final if the old system was already used hahaha
In these videos it should always be noted that, besides the fact that juries usually rank the entries according to some specific criteria, the show the juries base their voting on is not the same than the public show. Some singers with nice entries but borderline vocal capacities may nail their vocals in the public show, while committing a vocal crime in the jury show. Seen more than just a couple of times.
So many of my favourites here!! Already the very beginning is so depressing, Finland 2010 - 6th in televotes but 15th in juries :( Though I know there are even bigger robberies here like Montenegro 2013, that definitely belonged into final too. But so many here do! (Just a few notable exceptions that don't ;))
Contrary to a certain belief, not all these songs are uptempo - televote friendly songs ! Finlande 2017, poland 2019, Ned 2012, sweden 2010, Bulgarie 2013, North mac 2016, Grèce 2018 etc etc. All genra Can be eliminated by jury/televote, though i agree televote tends to rank higher uptempo songs.
When jury NQs a fan-favourite: *boo very bad jury* When you realize how many low quality songs were rescued from the GF: *bring back jury ooga booga* Be consequent, please.
People don't seem to realize how much of a difference in viewership count the semi finals and grand finals have aswell. Like I watch it all but I am quite literally the only one I know outside of specifically esc interested groups that do it. If there wasn't a jury to get atleast some quality insurance for the final their views might also drop quite heavily
@@goranpersson7726 I'm an Australian, and since the shows take place in the early morning (like 5am through to 8am for the grand final), watching the Semi's is impossible since they take place on weekdays (schooldays for me) and waking up early isn't as okay as with waking up early on a Sunday to watch the scoring of the contest.
Stella has become my queen, I listen to her music all the time, she was my most played artist of 2020. She didn't qualify, but she won me over as a permanent fan.
Ngl after watching both videos I think I’m happy with about 80% of the song that wouldn’t have made it and happy with about 15% of the song that would have with this change
The only songs authentically worth saving were "Blackbird" (Finland 2017), "Oniro Mou" (Greece 2018 - the vocal execution was rather weak, though, so I can understand), "Tick-Tock" (Croatia 2021), and maybe "Pali się" (Poland 2019 - that's my country so forgive the bias, haha). I dread ESC 2023 and I don't even want to watch the other video (entries that would not have qualified)...
I guess I'm looking at it from a slightly different perspective. Each of these songs represents a song that did make it to the final. 2010, specifically, (Finland/Bosnia, Lithuania/Israel, Sweden/Ireland) I prefer all of the songs here to the songs that did make it.
Personally I think the best system is the one used in 2008 and 2009: televoting chooses the 9 first qualifiers, and the jury selects 1 more. I've never seen people crying about a country not qualifying in these editions, but people still complain about the non qualification of many countries in the editions after that.
great video. however sadly this confirms that this is the worst decision the EBU have made concerning the contest. for instance Ronela from Albania this year. i love the song but the performance was an utter mess. that qualifying over Switzerland would have been a crime. the contest is now going to turn into to quote Salvador 'fast food music' to try to get into the finals. even though 3 of my favourite songs recently Poland 2016, Norway 2019 and Estonia 2017 were killed bu y the juries, i agree with their votes a lot more than the televote. 😢
@Pauli K it was a snoozefest - literally. Artists should be rewarded for going outside of the box and taking risks... that's part of the music industry. Innovation and risk taking, otherwise we'd have only one type of bland music. Albania and Ronela did that... they went outside the box of usual Albanian power ballads and the song was a clear hit and catch among listeners. Swiss' entry this year was anything but that - it was bland, unoriginal, and boring as hell. I literally think I took a nap when Marius Barefeet performed in the final. 🫠

HOW ON EARTH did Bulgaria 2012 end up in 17th place (AKA SECOND TO LAST) with the juries?! She killed it vocally and this kind of music was very current in 2011/2012 in Europe (with artists like INNA and Alexandra Stan charting internationally) Love Unlimited is still a banger! 🔥
I think the best system is juries and public select 5 songs each to go through the final from a semi. If a song is chosen by both juries and televotings, the replaced song will come by the combination of both jury and televoting results, like usual
I think the best method is still 'let me choose nine qualifiers first; jury and televote can sort the rest later'. I see no system as the best one, it would be worse to have either only juries or only televote. I don't oppose the 50/50 rule, obviously until my favorite songs are left behind! How dare them?
100% SF Televoting is a suicide. I would have accepted a 75% Televoting 25% Juries or 70/30 enough to have a small contribution but not 100% Songs like Tyolkki Ella deserved to pass but Aina Mina Pitaa... that's a big nono. Would have kept Sweden's perfect qualifying though.
I think all three songs are great really I was convinced until I saw Poland 2018 and Albania 2022, then again I knew those songs had hype so I should've expected it
And You And Me, Netherlands, not Switzerland. Of all this bunch most shocking NQs for me were Sekret (though understandable) and Verona (expected to do better with Juries than Public).
@@matijapongracic4812 if you're tasteless blame yourself, not the audience. Pali Sie is something out of this world that had to qualify instead of that useless Belarusian song (that clearly bought juries to put her 6th)
It's a very small sample, but I would guess: 1. Singing in your own language (except for English, I mean) seems to fair better with the televote. 2. Taking a not very well produced song WHILE steering away from pop is a recipe for disaster with the jury. 3. The jury vote will punish the worst singers (three clear examples here). 4. Finland and Switzerland get the short end of the stick. I expected Iceland, with so many neighbours. More specifically, I remember most of those songs because (there you go, just scroll to the next comment): 1. Työlki Ellää (Kuunkuiskaajat, Finalnd, 2010): Thanks for introducing me to this language! Racing fan here and let's just say Kimi Räikkönen wouldn't speak a lot. 2. This Is My Life (Anna Bergendahl, Sweden, 2010): It's Sweden. It's an average pop song. She can sing. This was in Norway. What happened? That's more than enough for a Grand Final spot. 3. Haba Haba (Stella Mwangi, Norway, 2011): I believe there was a technical problem during the jury show, but things went smoothly at the televised show. Maybe she would have qualified after all. 4. I Love Belarus (Anastasia Vinnikova, Belarus - oh, really? -, 2011): Just imagine Uzari (ESC 2015) was a backing vocal there! 5. Unbreakable (Sinplus, Switzerland, 2012): Kind of a guilty pleasure I still sing, trying to mimic that German accent. 6. Love Unlimited (Sofi Marinova, Bulgaria, 2012): That chorus is so great and awful at the same time! Eurovision in a nutshell. 7. You And Me (Joan Franka, The Netherlands, 2012): You Jury (redacted)! At least show some mercy! 8. Igranka (Who See feat. Nina Žižić, Montenegro, 2013): Hip-hop is supposed to fail with the jury. They'll prove me wrong one day, though. 9. You And Me (Takasa / Salvation Army (WHAT?), Switzerland, 2013): I guess home viewers saw Emil Ramsauer and voted! By the way, rest in peace, Herr Ramsauer (aged 103). "You And Me" is not a lucky title. 10. Quero Ser Tua (Suzy, Portugal, 2014): As a Brazilian, I can assure you this is just like an early 1990s lambada! Our radio stations wouldn't stop playing that sort of song back then. 11. Aina Mun Pitää (Pertti Kurikan Nimipäivät, I must have made a spelling mistake there, Finland, 2015): The shortest Eurovision song ever, and one of the most beautiful stories the contest could have produced! Forget the scores! 12. Hope Never Dies (Marta Jandová & Václav Noid Bárta, Czechia, 2015): Better known as 'Will this country ever qualify?'. And it happened shortly after. 13. Ljubav Je (Dalal and Deen feat. Ana Rucner and Jala, Bosnia and Herzegovina, 2016): That's odd, he's got the same name as the Bosnian singer from 2004... but there's no way he's... wait a minute, WHAT? 14. Blackbird (Norma John, Finland, 2017): I still don't understand the jury there. 41 points. Also, 40 points to Blanche, who was saved by the televote. You have big compositions for Portugal, Belgium, and Finland. All great songs. Boring? Televote takes care of boring. According to the jury, only the Portuguese entry would be heard on Saturday! I digress... 15. Verona (Koit Toome and Laura, Estonia, 2017): Most critics watched the televote show and destroyed this act: Laura's accent and mic fail, Koit's weird stares and so on. And yet, like it or not, the televote would have saved them. 16. Apollo (Timebelle, Switzerland, 2017): Stairs don't work! Cascada will tell you. 17. Oniro Mou (Yianna Terzi, Greece, 2018): Something must have happened. There's no way that's a 16th place in the Jury. 18. Tick-tock (Albina, Croatia, 2021): That was desperately unlucky! The televote saved Azerbaijan and Norway, while the Jury saved Sweden and Belgium. Croatia could have placed ahead of any of those countries, but wound up behind them. Only KEiiNO was more unlucky in 2021, really. They might have won the whole thing. It's over. And HEIA NORGE, no matter what you send every time!
The Jury's should only have 30% voting power, The General Public should have 70%. I alway's thought "Verona" should have gone through. I downloaded a remix of that which I still play regularly today.
I actually like quite a few of these more than the ones the jury saved (outside midnight gold and mall) but idk if I would trade that in for boom boom or Finland 2015 qualifying :/ that and all the ones I were really wanting in the final were mostly 2015 and before so it'll probably just save mostly save the modern pop disaster hits these days. Guess it can't hurt to try for a year, I suppose? I mean, I guess they had to do something about the 0 telepoints Azerbaijan got while qualifying...
Honestly, I don't really care about the change, even though the juries have saved some of my favorite eurovision entries over the past, it still seems unfair that a small group of people get to decide 50% of the whole contest. If the televote kills one of my favorites, at least I can't say it's unfair lol, whereas the juries have also unfairly killed so many great acts.
well i mean it IF fair, ya know, it isn't like it's an election. It's a song competition, there should be a degree of objective musical judging, from juries who are qualified to do so.
Boom Boom does certainly and Armenia worries they won't Q with Future Lover - you would have done with that trash. Not keen on I love Belarus or that EDM rubbish from Bulgaria either. Some songs did deserve to go through - not keen on Ireland 2014 though. It's only half the picture though Midnight Gold woukdnt have gone through in 2016 and to me that would have been a shame. Light me Up is a strike against and it means we'll get sodding Solo this year. Sorry Croatia but I like The Wrong Place more. The two live performances for 2022 songs were really shonky and didn't deserve to go through.
I think you should also have included Serbia 2009 and North Macedonia 2008 who would have qualified if not for the jury wildcard. And also considering the Sammarinese simulated televote, and the simulated jury and televote of other countries who didn't have an available televote and jury, this video is not entirely accurate.
People acting like this new rule was here since 2010 - Contest has changed and i believe only good song will qualify + diverse ones!! Sadly it means some countries will buy SIM cards again :(
@@achnix3167 taste is different and many people has a different one! I liked Albania in 2021 for example and i am happy that she qualified - but it was bc of the Sasha actually!
@@tom_4546 well yeah thats the reason it qualified but that has nothing to do with that it was a quality song, great vocals (best female of the night?) from a charismatic performer. Like the public votes for basic shit or circus entries too often. Not sure what the point of saying tastes are different is supposed to mean. Everybody knows that, but on average patterns can be observed where quality just isnt rewarded. And i liked Denmarks entry. Same with Albania 2022. I liked the Song but you just have to see that it wasnt performed well. Yet peoples pretend like the juries have no taste and they "killed it" when in reality the jury show was actually better than the tv semifinal and the fans / public still voted for it regardless of how bad it was. Its not about taste
Great video idea, but the new system also allows more countries to vote which would change things as well, so it could even allow those that finished 11th with televoting, with half the countries voting, to have qualified.
Overall feeling pretty ambivalent about the new change to the voting system. Although some countries I personally would have welcomed in the final! 2012: Bulgaria 2013: Montenegro 2014: Ireland 2016: North Macedonia 2017: Finland (my no.1 that year!) 2018: Greece 2019: Poland 2021: Croatia 2022: Albania
Question about this: Have you forgotten that next year is going to have a "Rest of the World" vote, which may have kept Albania 2022 (Asan example) out all the same?
I needed none of these in the finals, except for albina with tictoc maybe. There where other semi finals song that deserved to be in the final and didnt make it, because neither the juries nor the televoters liked them, eventhough they were great.
OMG. 😱 Those d@mn jurisprudencia in 2013 made me hate the placements that juries, especially their praise for Russia with the most dull ballad in history.
honestly I don't mind most of these songs qualifying save for like two of them the only big losses really are songs like Austria 2013 or Montenegro 2016 who qualified with juries but did badly with the televote and ended up not qualifying
All this is pretty interesting, but it really makes very little difference. In the final analysis, the songs that were included didn't win (or place or show) in the finals and these songs wouldn't have either since the final will still include jury voting. The bottom line is that you have to be popular with both juries and the public in order to win Eurovision.
If anything I think it should be switched. I think the juries should help decide who gets in the final but then the public decides the winner. Which honestly wouldn’t make things that different given the last winner to not win the public vote was in 2016
"Which honestly wouldn’t make things that different given the last winner to not win the public vote was in 2016" *2019. Norway's Keiino won the public vote in 2019, The Netherland's Duncan Laurence was 2nd in the televote, and 3rd in the jury vote.
Finland 2010(big robbery), Sweden 2010, Norway 2011, Switzerland 2012(biggest robbery), Netherlands 2012, Montenegro 2013(big robbery), Switzerland 2013, Bulgaria 2013, Portugal 2014, Ireland 2014(big robbery), Czech Republic 2015, Bosnia and Herzegovina 2016, Belarus 2016, Finland 2017, Estonia 2017, Switzerland 2017(second biggest robbery), Poland 2019(big robbery), Lithuania 2019(big robbery), Croatia 2021(third biggest robbery) and Denmark 2021 should have qualified for the final
I can't tell anymore the new system will definitely bring in some good songs, but we will also lose some good songs. I don't think we will ever have a good system apart from 50/50 split, I trust the juries alot more tho ngl
It's such a weird situation. Sure some songs that should've gone to the final would but then there's the ones that would've made it that now won't. I don't think it should've been changed but...man I just think it's weird
I think that if 100% televoting is used, all rankings should be taken into account: In 2016 SF1, 🇧🇦 qualified in televoting points, but in televote average rankings, 🇸🇲 would have qualified. In 2016 SF2, 🇲🇰 and 🇷🇸 qualified in televoting points, but in televote average rankings, 🇬🇪 and 🇳🇴 would have qualified. In 2018 SF2, 🇵🇱 qualified in televoting points, but in televote average rankings, 🇳🇱 would have qualified. In 2019 SF2, 🇦🇱 qualified in televoting points, but in televote average rankings, 🇩🇰 would have qualified. In 2021 SF1, 🇭🇷 qualified in televoting points, but in televote average rankings, 🇧🇪 would have qualified. In 2022 SF1, 🇦🇱 qualified in televoting points, but in televote average rankings 🇦🇹 would have qualified. This is because countries like 🇧🇦, 🇲🇰, 🇦🇱, 🇵🇱, 🇷🇸 and 🇭🇷 have many voting allies, so it's easier for them to get high televoting points, despite gaining points from fewer countries.
I was actually surprised at how a whole lot of these entries are pretty great but then Finland 2015 came up and I went like “yeah…. that’s why the new voting system is not a good idea lol”

Thats exactly the point of juries (not that they always get it right but overall if find the difference they made in semis better than without)
@@achnix3167 It was like watching a car run into a ditch and burst into flames.
I agree. If all rankings counted in the televoting: 🇦🇱 would have placed 12th in the televoting and last with the juries in the SF1
Feeling so sorryyy for Albania's Ronela and Montenegro's İgranka
Croatia 2021is in Top-10 both by jury and televote and still didn't qualify💀 Math did her dirty
When jury NQs a fan-favourite: *boo very bad jury*
When you realize how many low quality songs were rescued from the GF: *bring back jury ooga booga*
Be consequent, please.
I wanted Haba Haba to qualify so bad 😢
Samo Shampioni is literally right there smh
Yianna przeciesz świetnie to zaśpiewała. Więc to i tak ciężki grzech że jury jej nie dopuściło.
Personally I think the best system is the one used in 2008 and 2009: televoting chooses the 9 first qualifiers, and the jury selects 1 more. I've never seen people crying about a country not qualifying in these editions, but people still complain about the non qualification of many countries in the editions after that.
Or 8 qualify from televoting and 2 from juries
great video. however sadly this confirms that this is the worst decision the EBU have made concerning the contest. for instance Ronela from Albania this year. i love the song but the performance was an utter mess. that qualifying over Switzerland would have been a crime. the contest is now going to turn into to quote Salvador 'fast food music' to try to get into the finals. even though 3 of my favourite songs recently Poland 2016, Norway 2019 and Estonia 2017 were killed bu
y the juries, i agree with their votes a lot more than the televote. 😢
But Switzerland's song was so bad...
@@lukechaidez4163 "outside of the box" are you even listening to yourself? what is so outside of the box about a generic pop song with a shitty performance and an even shittier instrumental?

HOW ON EARTH did Bulgaria 2012 end up in 17th place (AKA SECOND TO LAST) with the juries?! She killed it vocally and this kind of music was very current in 2011/2012 in Europe (with artists like INNA and Alexandra Stan charting internationally)
Love Unlimited is still a banger!
If Gromee & Lukas Meijer qualify, AWS, Sanja Ilic & Balkanika and Lea Sirk would most likely have not qualified
100% SF Televoting is a suicide. I would have accepted a 75% Televoting 25% Juries or 70/30 enough to have a small contribution but not 100%
Songs like Tyolkki Ella deserved to pass but Aina Mina Pitaa... that's a big nono. Would have kept Sweden's perfect qualifying though.
Igranka ❤❤❤
Montenegro and Igranka is a literal piece of musical history, a one of a kind piece of art. My winner
Agree
Realizing that songs like Boom Boom, Aina Mun Pitää and Pali sie would have qualified with the new system makes me worried about the future of ESC
Pali sie is amazing tho
@@sabe018 I know it has its audience but I'm just not among them...
I think all three songs are great
really I was convinced until I saw Poland 2018 and Albania 2022, then again I knew those songs had hype so I should've expected it
And You And Me, Netherlands, not Switzerland.
It's a very small sample, but I would guess:
More specifically, I remember most of those songs because (there you go, just scroll to the next comment):
Definitely a mixed bag imo
The fact that Poland would qualify instead of Belarus in 2019 if a member of the Czech jury didnt cast her votes in the opposite order... Wow
Omg putting the last song from this list on 18th place in Juries was a crime...
it's an error, it was 12th (which was still last place in that SF)
The song was great, her live singing not so much. That’s probably why she probably got such a low rating.
Blackbird still makes me cry 😭🇫🇮 one of the best ESC songs ever...
Una vergüenza que Finlandia 2017 haya quedado fuera por el JURADO PROFESIONAL !!!

If Tulia qualify, Zena, Serhat or Tamta would most likely have not qualified

This new system is not gonna work.Imagine the impact running order will now have!
I think you should also have included Serbia 2009 and North Macedonia 2008 who would have qualified if not for the jury wildcard.
And also considering the Sammarinese simulated televote, and the simulated jury and televote of other countries who didn't have an available televote and jury, this video is not entirely accurate.

Everybody knows that, but on average patterns can be observed where quality just isnt rewarded. And i liked Denmarks entry.
Same with Albania 2022. I liked the Song but you just have to see that it wasnt performed well. Great video idea, but the new system also allows more countries to vote which would change things as well, so it could even allow those that finished 11th with televoting, with half the countries voting, to have qualified.
This video only refers to the 100% Televoting rule as shown in the title!
Overall feeling pretty ambivalent about the new change to the voting system. Although some countries I personally would have welcomed in the final!
2012: Bulgaria
2013: Montenegro
2014: Ireland
2016: North Macedonia
2017: Finland (my no.1 that year!)
2018: Greece
2019: Poland
2021: Croatia
2022: Albania
Question about this: Have you forgotten that next year is going to have a "Rest of the World" vote, which may have kept Albania 2022 (Asan example) out all the same?
These are parameters that can’t be predicted and for this reason these videos only refer to the 100% televoting rule, as the title states:)
I needed none of these in the finals, except for albina with tictoc maybe. There where other semi finals song that deserved to be in the final and didnt make it, because neither the juries nor the televoters liked them, eventhough they were great.
Blackbird deserved to qualify, it breaks my heart that it didn't

Estonia 2017 was my personal heartbreak
honestly I don't mind most of these songs qualifying save for like two of them
the only big losses really are songs like Austria 2013 or Montenegro 2016 who qualified with juries but did badly with the televote and ended up not qualifying
Albina and Sofi Marinova deserved to qualify!!
Andromache 💓
You have good songs like Sweden 2010
But also disasters like Finland 2015, turkey 2011 Belarus 2011 and Armenia 2011
All this is pretty interesting, but it really makes very little difference.
In the final analysis, the songs that were included didn't win (or place or show) in the finals and these songs wouldn't have either since the final will still include jury voting. The bottom line is that you have to be popular with both juries and the public in order to win Eurovision.
The running order will be very important then ..
This is exactly why we need juries.

If anything I think it should be switched. I think the juries should help decide who gets in the final but then the public decides the winner. Which honestly wouldn’t make things that different given the last winner to not win the public vote was in 2016

The fact that the televoters wanted Boom Boom to qualify still kills me 😂

I can't tell anymore the new system will definitely bring in some good songs, but we will also lose some good songs. I don't think we will ever have a good system apart from 50/50 split, I trust the juries alot more tho ngl
It's such a weird situation. Sure some songs that should've gone to the final would but then there's the ones that would've made it that now won't. I don't think it should've been changed but...man I just think it's weird
I think that if 100% televoting is used, all rankings should be taken into account:
In 2016 SF1, 🇧🇦 qualified in televoting points, but in televote average rankings, 🇸🇲 would have qualified.
Well that's an exception that proves the rule :D
Yeah but that means Albania not qualifying in 2018...
And I'm willing to sacrifice all these songs just to have that one in there (except Finland 2010, Croatia 2013, and Denmark 2021)
This made me worry about next year 😐
