Whereby private donations were limited to a very low level; a level that would be affordable to everyone in society and then to replace private donations. The Seattle citizens got $100 per election cycle and it worked incredibly well. It had all the consequences that you would expect - like more people giving money, to more people getting involved in politics, those people being from groups that are often under represented, more competitive elections, incumbents being more likely to lose. It generally reinvigorated the health of democracy in Seattle; this system should be extended to a national level. It would mean that politicians rather than having to go cap in hand to a tiny group of super rich donors would have to appeal to everyone equally.

Hmm well I’ve experienced the total opposite here in Europe. My Jewish neighbours are educated, peaceful and contribute a lot to the community to non-Jews. Hindus also overall are decent folk and make something of themselves when they migrate here. I feel safe with the Jews and Hindus. They keep their traditions and have added value to European “diversity” The Muslim immigrants not so much. Our city is afraid to talk about it lest we are labeled “islamophobe”, but really their world view could simply not be more different from the values of the West. I would say the differences are irreconcilable.
