@@hoothoot673 Part of the problem I had with this tier is that the mechanics were not very satisfying to do and on top of that gear was really easy to get and resulted in minor upgrades from raid after tier pieces.

For some reason one thing that stood out to me was Morgan mentioning Dota first when he talked about the Ping system. Feel like it's industry standard to go with League first. I appreciate it xD
Probably from a PR angle, they don't want these guys talking too long. They might reveal something too much as that resolve gets relaxed by the interviewer, or just say something dumb. Though I would 100% be for a 1-2hr+ conversation though. You can just throw them on like a podcast and hear people who love and design the game explore the surplus of viable topics out there.
its nice that they have chosen to nerf the rate at which you gear based on how fast people paid to play the game 24/7 have geared out. its great news, i was so sick of being able to play more than one character having a regular human job.
My great vaults have been pretty useless for 4 weeks now on my main and I play the game like 5hrs a week if the rfw raiders gear fast so does everyone else. I think this gearing pace is fine but there aren't enough rewards. I reached like 2.5k in the 4th week, so there literally is 0 reason for me to play the game now reward wise. No gear, no titles, no cosmetics, no mounts, no transmog NOTHING
I've been talking for years about adding more visual ques and communication to the game, the game feels so much better when youre able to work together in real time using voice programs but its not reasonable to expect especially pugs to always be in voice with you. It's also a hassle even on voice to describe a specific point or area in game whereas dropping a visual que in the game is the exact answer to this. Not only those things, but being in a raid only the raid lead and assist can use the raid markers and those are limited, and usually already used up. This also alleviates a problem in the pugging world especially in M+ where the established "common" routes are the only ones used and the tank gets flamed if they ever change because its what people are used to and because of that its the most effective since its already known, trying a different route just causes confusion whereas if youre able to use MDT and this new ping system it could open the door to try new things in the pug world.
The big issue is that most of the players want the game to stop feeling like a job (most likely those with an actual job), but a considerable part of players want the game to be even deeper and grindy (most likely those that can play 24/7 atm). I've been i both situations before and designing a game around that is tough.
New ping system sounds good. Id imagine it would only eb usable by raid lead otherise it will turn into a league match where people just ping randomly, specifically the dead person on the ground.
I wish for a day when tanking is a subcategory of dps that cant overperform on charts but is satisfying to play and feels like they have purpose other than to hold threat
Its such an elitiest question to bring up gearing too fast from a guild that had gear literally funneled to them from pugs. As a someone who cleared N Aberus up to Echo on day 1, it still took me 1 month to get full 4/4 and all of it was from vault. And then 2months later of farming H Aberus 7/7 for vault rewards and m+16s, i am still chasing gear trinkets/weapons. So no, gearing is not too fast, you abused design and performed split raids. For the average player it still took forever to gear, its easier now considering most ppl have farmed out their tier.
19:15 Yea, you can really see this in Echo of Neltharion. My guild has been going through consistency issues with tanks & getting the positioning down has felt like a pain point when it’s a completely different tank by the time we get to him every week. 33:15 Morgan saying they talked about it makes me think maybe Blackhand is what he was referring to.
So, the issue I have (only 12 mins in) is that the vast majority of ppl who raid/mythic+ are just there to get their gear. They don't care how articulate the encounter is, or to challenge themselves to coordinate, they just want to nuke and loot. If an addon lets me do that more efficiently then making so it doesn't work, when you already allow addons, is just spiteful. Just because an alert tells me I need to be x with my y, doesn't mean it will be auto done. I'm already having to commit either losing dps/movement cd/defensive to do said action. Sometimes your put in a position where your just not gonna make it or fall a bit short, but if its seen that you were making them attempt, your forgiven for the bad rng. If, however, you don't know and just fail miserably you get double whammied by the group. It all comes back to efficiency. Addons allow players to be more efficient by eliminating a thought step. If you never wanted this, then you shouldn't of allowed addons.
As far as weak auras and such go, the devs need to realize that a large part of the game’s population is getting older and we don’t see so well now, lol. They definitely need to make things more obvious and maybe work on the amount of spell effects. When I have to grab a purple bomb on a purple floor in a split second with 57 other things flashing and swirling it’s really hard to see what is going on.
As a main tank I love knowing me living is because of me and not getting spammed by a healer. Sure reducing damage taken is the same thing but it isn't as rewarding or visual.
gear progression was fine this patch, as has been the raid. I don't really want to see these things change almost at all tbh. 2516 M+, 9/9H, 1/9M currently is where my main is at. Also this patch allowed me to actually play and enjoy my alts and not be forced to do hard grind garbage.
I can't disagree more about how "easy to get" rare loot is. My guild clears Heroic and normal literally every week. We have NEVBER seen Ashkandur drop. Not a SINGLE one! Thats not "accessible" and we have had AOTC for months now.
Some people take the game way too serious and sometimes they get mad about something. Imagine he had said his favorite fight was Sylvanas. Some people hated that fight and there is a minority of players who think it’s cool to send really hateful messages to the devs. I’m gonna guess that’s why he wanted to skip that
@@Zasgaming i think its less based on player perception and more on who at blizz worked on whatever specific fight. for example if he were to say X boss was his favorite because the fight design itself was great it could make it potentially seem like the current blizz devs working on fights didnt get it as right comparatively. its more a matter of not hurting other wow devs feelings imo
they gotta introduce some bad luck protection for real, been doing the raid on N/HC every week since it came out on my priest (no guild) and i haven't seen (from vault) or gotten (from loot in raid) Rashok or Black Dragonscale, this is honestly beyond stupid.
dinar dinar dinar. shouldve never been only something they "experimented" with in s4 sl. shouldve became a permanent addition to the game. nothing feels better in wow (at least in terms of gearing)to me then grinding your heart out with the guarantee you are going to get the piece you put all that effort into for. its the reason farming mounts can be so sleeper to a lot of people. some walk in the instance once and get it some farm it 300+ times and havent seen it once. not good design imo
For the upgrade system, I would like to see it changed in s3 so that each upgrade requires 2 "crests" but they adjust the drop rate accordingly. The catch is that way they can also give discounts on twinks so you only need 1 "crest" until you hit your mains gear. The only downside I see is that people would start picking vault items based on where they don't have already the discount on an alt. I would also like to see that the higher the key in the bracket is, the more fragments you get. From 12 on a 16 to a maximum of 15 for a 19 when timed and 5-8 from an overtimed key depending on height.
Anyone remember back in Dragon Soul when they tried to fix the problem of raid difficulty balancing by eventually adding a debuff to the bosses that stacked each week, increasing the damage they took by 5% per stack (up to 50%?)? It carried on for a while into the next xpacs with different iterations - sometimes the player would get a stacking weekly buff, sometimes the boss - long story short, we're at the point where the players deliberately get more powerful over time through gear and easier access to gear/upgrades instead of Blizz having to put silly debuffs/buffs on everyone to allow the player base the best chance of clearing all the content. Its been something theyve been doing for years now, but with the new upgrade system its even more impactful. Personally, I'm more than fine with it... having a temporary buff/debuff like they first tried which made you ridiculously OP in raids but weak outside of it was much worse.
Max, just wanna say, it may seem small to some, but the fact that the first thing out of your mouth about the pinging system was about people facing accessibility issues just shows how much of a genuinely good dood you are. Love to see it.
This sounds extremely discouraging. Gear was fine and it took me until week 2 of the catalyst to get my set even thought I did the raid on normal. Never saw a set piece in vault. I am still not maxed out in gear especially with the mythic track coming. For the love of god don't start balancing around the degenerate RWF playstyle again.
yes but also he is working with the people that make these fights. picking one would also be like saying this designer is better than the other which while may not be a big deal to us im sure COULD cause issues with other things for them. While i would have preferred he answer i understand why he didnt and it makes sense to me
Wth Max. You know people are just gonna see “New System” and automatically make negative assumptions about the game without even clicking on the video.
im decently sure that they do indeed know what a lot of the more casual but committed players feel like, the full on casuals arent worth making things for due to not being as committed and wouldnt be bother quiting whenever. You also think they only listen to what Max and others say about it? no they dont they do indeed listen to just random every day people, just not as much. i can almost guarantee the main things they listen to in the community is when big figures say something that a good amount of people agree with.
@@josephpoole3942thats how its mostly used in League of Legends when playing non ranked games so i really hope this tools is going to be partyleader only and not spam fiesta when ppl dies and blame the healer for it
They should do world first raid with premade toons on a secluded server. They all start with a specific ilvl and only can earn gear from the raid. No outside influence from the live server. Can't throw millions of gold or incorporate hundreds of extra people. This way it's most fair. If they really want to make it a competition. Then they don't have to tune around the nolifers.
yeah, loving that new gearing system with 500 new currencys. Also loved to run over 100 times underrot for BiS trinket which still diddnt drop, literally rerolled bcs of that and now at the edge of quitting wow completly. The new gearing is annoying as hell. for some gear u could just run 1 dg to upgrade with valor, now u need to run 2 for everything. Also annulet nerfs and no compensation for BM hunter. Good trade loosing 15% of overall dps as beeing literally F tier even before of that.
God I hate this game so much and how it caters way too much to people like you guys and your esports teams. Remove M+, make it challenge modes, go back to easier casual challenges like in Mists of Pandaria, and make raids even easier. This whole interview was a nothing burger. Simplify the game don't make it require so much precision and so many addons.
when you make stupid beacon to be so good then put better drop rate at least what i need to pay 500k to get beacon or just nerf it and buff other trinkets its so stupid
Honestly the biggest problem with the gearing in this patch is that you could upgrade items too far without doing higher level content. Like it's ridiculous that you can run only +11 keys and get to 437 item level. Like to me that's absurd. IMO it should have been 1-10 = Whelpling, 11-15 - Drake, 16-19 - Wyrm, and 20+ Aspect. It's crazy that you can get the same ilvl gear from running 16 keys as from mythic raid bosses. That content is NOT equal. Blizzard just went too carebear in this patch.
youre going too far into the opposite direction, upgrade system is the biggest qol system in wow history. gotta be really careful with its tuning. 10 for whelpling is pathetic. Wyrm at 16 is a tad too much too. im a veteran player without a lot of free time (marriage/work/chores) and this has been the first time in forever i got close to being geared out. this patch was amazing to casual players ps: have u tried getting into 20s as a non meta dps?
the first 3 mythic bosses are easier than +16 keys. why do you want to gatekeep gearing? does it affect you, because the average 2,2k player runs around with 440 ilvl? do you want shadowlands back because the alt experience was great, to farm for 4 weeks straight so you can play your alt finally? gearing is completely fine right now.
@@cronosdimitri4584 And a level 10 key is also pathetically easy and can be done in Zaralek Cavern greens. I dont know what the right numbers are but being able to get mythic raid ilvl gear from 16 is not fair.

They need to not make gear harder to get. It was so refreshing having a faster progression.
I think you could nerf gearing a little bit from where we are today and it still feels good, but people aren't reaching the finish line in 3 weeks. Even just lowering the crest cap by a little would slow the top people down while your average person won't feel it really.
The problem is if you are in the middle of prog you will get bore really fast if you dont get anything new and the game has nothing to keep ppl playing around when you cap your gears. Better make more content that similar to pick-up and play with this current gearing rate.
@@hoothoot673 Part of the problem I had with this tier is that the mechanics were not very satisfying to do and on top of that gear was really easy to get and resulted in minor upgrades from raid after tier pieces.
@@psyonicpanda That's because, other than gear, they don't actually have content to satisfy players in the endgame. You should shout at Blizzard to stop endlessly changing specs numbers and start creating real content.
Thanks Max for giving us the opportunity to view these interviews.
I liked how there were two additional talking heads in this one.
i hope they dont go to heavy handed on gearing, i feel like its in such a good spot for people like me that only really do m+ and raid with a group of friends a couple hrs a day
I hope they do, game was dead before the catalyst came out. AOTC guilds losing half their raiders, mythic guilds nearly disbanding due to roster boss etc.
When you have no carrot to chase turns out nobody gives a crap. People say they raid for fun but the evidence from this season shows that's clearly a lie.
@@myopiniondoesntmatter7068ow no god forbidden the game actually values peoples time and does not force you to grind all week every week
@@myopiniondoesntmatter7068 Mythic guilds disbanded because of how badly they botched Rashok's tuning and Zskarn's everything (i.e. if you cheesed the boss you got a damn near free ride to HoF but if you didn't get there in time you spent weeks on him), not because people got geared too quickly.
Like, seriously. Zskarn is going to forever go down in history as the absolute worst thing that has ever happened to any raid tier ever.
Zoomer take.
Just go play another game if you want everything right now.
MMO's/RPG's are about progression, if a patch is designed to last 20 weeks and you're done in 2 or 3 weeks its a horrible feeling and terrible design.
Aint nobody sticking around for 4 months literally pointless farm content.
@@myopiniondoesntmatter7068 progression should be about completing content through test of skill, not locking content behind a repeatable grind for new loot. I have time for multiple alts for the first time in years. loosing that would suck.
Having interviews with people like Max, who are a part of the actual playerbase instead of some random gaming journalists was the best decision Blizz made in recent times.
Its just so cool to see that everyone has so much passion and knowledge.
They really shouldn't use the world first crews gear acquisition to determine gearing was too fast.
For some reason one thing that stood out to me was Morgan mentioning Dota first when he talked about the Ping system. Feel like it's industry standard to go with League first. I appreciate it xD
kinda sucks that these interviews are so short. i know they're busy people, but it would be nice to have a long 2 hourish conversation
I was thinking the same thing. Every blizzard interview is always on a time crunch. It makes no sense.
@@Shadowrin bRUH 2 Hours?? 34min is plenty lmao
@@codimartin3115 They are literally working and super busy you think they just sit around all day 30 mins is probably more than they can do.
its nice that they have chosen to nerf the rate at which you gear based on how fast people paid to play the game 24/7 have geared out. its great news, i was so sick of being able to play more than one character having a regular human job.
Max didn't say "I love you" again 😞
Also would love to listen to Michael for hours, hope he comes back for a longer interview of sorts soon!
My guild just got to echo. The fact that a macro/crazy weakaura is absolutely needed to kill echo is insane to me.
Max face of realization when he said “make it into two fights” is great. Anyone else catch that?
I can't wait for pugs to "?" ping each other when someone does something. Everyone does that in League of Legends, oh god this is gonna be great.
The ping system was a huge change in overwatch, I'm excited to see it in wow
morgan day is such a cool guy
take a drink every time Max says "i want to give you space to talk about..."
The way he didn't answer the question in the end makes me think the favorite boss they've worked on is one we haven't fought yet. GALAKROND?!
I wish for a day when tanking is a subcategory of dps that cant overperform on charts but is satisfying to play and feels like they have purpose other than to hold threat
They've always had a purpose. Tanks decide a lot of raid mechanics based on boss positioning.
Great interview.
I can't believe of all the questions to dodge, they dodged the "what's my favorite boss fight" question.
It was pretty cool that Morgan went back to the Zskarn question because the original answer was very generic.
It is too fast if you actually plan everything before start playing.
Seeing the League Pings in the thumbnail but noticing it's a vid from Maximum had me so confused lol
The idea of not needing to tune raid mid race is good. Try to slow down mythic guilds is just dumb, will affect the rest of players way more.
blizzard has actually has been really good about adding visual clarity to some things that sucked so i really gotta hand them that accolade.
Sure reducing damage taken is the same thing but it isn't as rewarding or visual.
gearing system is nice so far for alts
Would be a lot nicer on alts if you could funnel them crests
Maybe not aspects but all below that
gear progression was fine this patch, as has been the raid. I don't really want to see these things change almost at all tbh.
2516 M+, 9/9H, 1/9M currently is where my main is at.
Also this patch allowed me to actually play and enjoy my alts and not be forced to do hard grind garbage.
Fantastic interview!
Just amazing interview❤
I can't disagree more about how "easy to get" rare loot is. My guild clears Heroic and normal literally every week. We have NEVBER seen Ashkandur drop. Not a SINGLE one! Thats not "accessible" and we have had AOTC for months now.
Why was he so sketched out by the last question? Are they not allowed to talk about which bosses they work on?
I bet it's a boss we haven't fought yet and that's why he said "we'll talk later" because it's not out yet.
This is the first time im hearing them take a stance of being against or perhaps banning certain WAs
they gotta introduce some bad luck protection for real, been doing the raid on N/HC every week since it came out on my priest (no guild) and i haven't seen (from vault) or gotten (from loot in raid) Rashok or Black Dragonscale, this is honestly beyond stupid.
dinar dinar dinar. shouldve never been only something they "experimented" with in s4 sl. shouldve became a permanent addition to the game. nothing feels better in wow (at least in terms of gearing)to me then grinding your heart out with the guarantee you are going to get the piece you put all that effort into for. its the reason farming mounts can be so sleeper to a lot of people. some walk in the instance once and get it some farm it 300+ times and havent seen it once. not good design imo
I hope they had pvp interviews with different pvp steamers....
Max, just wanna say, it may seem small to some, but the fact that the first thing out of your mouth about the pinging system was about people facing accessibility issues just shows how much of a genuinely good dood you are. Love to see it.
You and morgan have great interview chemistry
This sounds extremely discouraging. Gear was fine and it took me until week 2 of the catalyst to get my set even thought I did the raid on normal. Never saw a set piece in vault.
I am still not maxed out in gear especially with the mythic track coming.
For the love of god don't start balancing around the degenerate RWF playstyle again.
U need to hit them with the "bye, love you" 🤣
s word Madge
extremely strange that they would not just answer that last question... like just say a fight you in general really liked the design of... jesus
yes but also he is working with the people that make these fights. picking one would also be like saying this designer is better than the other which while may not be a big deal to us im sure COULD cause issues with other things for them. While i would have preferred he answer i understand why he didnt and it makes sense to me
I bet it's a boss we haven't fought yet and that's why he said "we'll talk later" because it's not out yet.
33:05 BRUUH just throw out an honorable mention
me with new ping system: pls no i dont have any hotkeys left :)
They really need to stop tuning the game around the 0.01% people who play WoW as a job
Wth Max. You know people are just gonna see “New System” and automatically make negative assumptions about the game without even clicking on the video.
cool guy Mike
No wonder pve do messed up when you taking advice from .1% world 1st raiders these guys don't know what 99% of player base wants
Yeah I bet they’d love to interview you
im decently sure that they do indeed know what a lot of the more casual but committed players feel like, the full on casuals arent worth making things for due to not being as committed and wouldnt be bother quiting whenever. You also think they only listen to what Max and others say about it? no they dont they do indeed listen to just random every day people, just not as much. i can almost guarantee the main things they listen to in the community is when big figures say something that a good amount of people agree with.

The idea of getting a raid loot without doing any raids even sounds moronically stupid.

Gearing now is great for people who dont spend the majority of daily hours playing games
Using resources to create a ping system while we have raid markers that can be used for the exact same purpose is beyond my understanding.
It appeared weird to me how different the pings are from the marks
i feel like the ping system was not supposed to be announced!!
No subtitle?
System Madge
They should do world first raid with premade toons on a secluded server. They all start with a specific ilvl and only can earn gear from the raid. No outside influence from the live server. Can't throw millions of gold or incorporate hundreds of extra people. This way it's most fair. If they really want to make it a competition. Then they don't have to tune around the nolifers.
Can't help but notice how the magnets on the wall are not level.
Metal posters go over them, so it doesn’t matter.
Haven't played in a while, what's a private aura?
An aura that's hidden from addons.
New system, same old thumbnail
yeah, loving that new gearing system with 500 new currencys.
Imo Avatar of Sargeras doesn't get enough love as an encounter. Nighthold\Tomb were fucking banger raids.
Bring back reroll tokens :)
God I hate this game so much and how it caters way too much to people like you guys and your esports teams. Remove M+, make it challenge modes, go back to easier casual challenges like in Mists of Pandaria, and make raids even easier. This whole interview was a nothing burger. Simplify the game don't make it require so much precision and so many addons.
cmon dont nerf it
i want raids like sod these dragonflight raids are so boring
when you make stupid beacon to be so good then put better drop rate at least what i need to pay 500k to get beacon or just nerf it and buff other trinkets its so stupid
Wyrm at 16 is a tad too much too. im a veteran player without a lot of free time (marriage/work/chores) and this has been the first time in forever i got close to being geared out. this patch was amazing to casual players
ps: have u tried getting into 20s as a non meta dps?
the first 3 mythic bosses are easier than +16 keys. why do you want to gatekeep gearing? does it affect you, because the average 2,2k player runs around with 440 ilvl? do you want shadowlands back because the alt experience was great, to farm for 4 weeks straight so you can play your alt finally?
gearing is completely fine right now.
@@cronosdimitri4584 And a level 10 key is also pathetically easy and can be done in Zaralek Cavern greens. I dont know what the right numbers are but being able to get mythic raid ilvl gear from 16 is not fair.
@@sinnis4993 Man what the fuck kind of pugs are you running if you think +16's are harder than the first few mythic bosses. I honestly doubt you even raided this tier, considering Kazzara was one of the toughest tuned intro bosses in years.
does it not worry anyone else that the people who help design these fights can't name their favorite encounters?
You have to consider that they know who's responsible for making the fight, choosing a favorite fight publicly for them is probably bad for team dynamics
the way it came across to me is he was more trying to navigate not getting in trouble. like he didnt want to talk about it publiclky on video but you could tell he had an idea in mind.
Yeah you could see Michael's face light up because he definitely had a specific fight in mind, but I can see how it could be an awkward thing to put out there when they're both senior leaders to the people who are doing a ton of the legwork on the encounters.
@@TheTriforce100 thats really a bs take. If the designs werent good, to his standards as a leader, the designs wouldnt make the cut to be released. With everything, you have a favorite. Nobody on the team should have that big of an ego for it to be a problem naming a PERSONAL favorite design.
