Thank you for the great information in your video's Just want to second one of the comments below you are posting your video's at 480p It makes it very difficult to see what your doing on your screen!!!! That said great info and thank you for taking the time to post this information!!!
I hate when this happens. Not two weeks after performing this class, Canon goes ahead and updates the software. Not to worry though. I just noticed that Canon has uploaded a new version of Professional Print & Layout v. 1.3.6. There doesn't seem to be any new features or differences in functionality. From my initial investigation it looks like the Plug In Installer now recognizes the Adobe Photoshop Plug-Ins folder so you don't have to browse for it when installing the plug in. This works now for both Mac and Windows. The bigger improvement is that the Canon PPL Plug-In now works with Mac systems running M1 Silicon chips without having to activate Rosetta 2. THIS IS A BIG IMPROVEMENT! You can now run PS with M1 native code and use the plug in!. The documentation for Mac OS for this version simply says, "The internal modules have been updated>". For Windows documentation says, "The internal processing has been improved." That's all I got for now. I will post more updates as I make new discoveries so this post is very preliminary. As always if anyone needs help or assistance please let me know. Go to Canon's newly updated and redesigned Software Download and Support page to get the latest version of Canon PPL and your drivers. www.usa.canon.com/support
You MUST print the patches on the paper you are wanting to custom profile. There is no random choice here. The whole point of creating a custom profile for a paper is to create it for that specific paper on your specific printer.
Can you print wallpaper with this? In other words how easy is it to use a repeating pattern in the software to print out long rolls of the repeating pattern?
Hi Eric. Regarding the ICC profile phase. Understood the process on Print & Layout "Choose ICC -> Select Profile". Although, should I disable printer's color management on PC/MAC configuration? Does it affect anything? I ask because when it is printed from Photoshop, photoshop request to disable this configuration before selecting the color profile.
Hello, great video thanks. I have an issue with my Pro 200 series. I my paper size menu' the 4x6 doesn't exist and if I try to input specify custom size it won't add. Any help please?
Can anyone tell me the difference Professional Print & Layout v. 1.3.6 and Print Studio Pro ver 2.2.3. I've loaded both and my PS menu is missing some options from this video. But in Lightroom Classic the plugin Canon Professional Print and Layout menu looks the same as in this tutorial. What am I missing?
Hello David. Canon Professional Print & Layout is a newer program that is more full featured than Canon Print Studio Pro. Canon PPL is very much built around the ability to print multiple images on a page and create multiple image layouts on the fly much like a RIP. Canon will only be continuing to update Print Studio Pro for operating system updates and compatibility. If you are comfortable with the simplicity of Canon PSP you can continue to use it, but no new features will be added. Professional Print & Layout on the other hand will continue to be improved and functionality added. Also Print Studio Pro can not be used with then new Canon Larger Format Pro-2100/4100/6100 printers. You have to use PPL with these printers. I am interested to know what options are missing from your program. There are little tab markers that give you the option to hide panels and rearrange the thumbnail views, etc. It is possible some of these have been activated. If you need help please email me at etjoseph@freestylephoto.biz and we can set up a Zoom call.
i am REALLY stuggling to get the plug in to work on LR, I go through all the install etc etc, but when it comes to selecting LR to drop the plug in, the box remains grey and does not install. Although I have updated software my desktop mac is the 2013 and I just wonder if the Canon print package is simply not compatible. The pro 200 is driving me crazy I do not find the software intuitive at all and printing from LR is horrific, greens and reds are horrid, blues are so vibrant you need sunglasses. Paper profiles no longer make sense:(
Thank you Erik for your very comprehensive video. I've seen it all but I haven't found the answer to my need. Printing many photos on roll paper on my Pro-4100 I want to cut every image and not just at the end of the worktable. Is it possible to do this?
Hello Tommaso. I apologize for the later reply. I don't always get notified when people post questions on this page. There is a setting in Roll Paper Options that I talk about in the video. It is a check box that says No Top/Bottom Space (Save Paper). I tell folks to never click this button as PPL will ignore your borders and paper size and literally cut the paper to the edge of your image area. Uncheck that box. I hope this helps.
I use the Canon Pro-1000. I installed the software, it opens up fine, but some of the functions are not available for use, I can't check certain boxes like for instance borderless printing, and I can only insert jpeg images not tiff. Is there something I am not doing correctly.
Nope, he talks right at the beginning of the video, this is not backwards compatible with many of the smaller printers. You may try Print Studio Pro, if you haven't, that's what I have used with a Pro-100 and a Pro-4000.
Hello Ian, Canon Professional Print & Layout will not work on the Canon Pro-10. You can still use Canon Print Studio Pro on that printer. Canon PPL can be used on the Pro-200, 300. 1000 and larger format printers.
After you save custom setting and give it a name, and then you make a change, is there a way to update saved setting? I cannot seem to find that and requires that I erase it and save it again which is clunky.
Started listening to your video here. Why do you blame Apple when the app is Canon and loads fine for LRC? Shouldn't the install program be the culprit here?
Hello Eric. Not sure exactly which part you are referring to. In terms of the AirPrint driver, this really is an Apple issue as far as I have been told from both Epson and Canon. Regardless, I am offering the ability to correct for the driver loading. In terms of the Plug-In it is a combination between how Adober updates Photoshop and Canon not recognizing the new location of the Plug-Ins folder. This is our problem in our digital world where multiple companies have to come together to make things happen.
Im sorry but this program errors out on sending. I have both gp2000 and a 300 and I dont understand why this program is trash. Sometimes it works and if you actually need it to work it hold you hostage. I have every setting lined up and simple for a test print. It should not be this hard to print. I feel like I am hostage to only print from this for the profiles. Just sucks I cannot believe how bad this professional layout program is.
Hello SimplyFilms, there is a continuing bug in PPL that some people encounter where it will error out while sending a file. The error shows up in the Print Queue and says to check the Printers Remote UI (User Interface). This happens when PPL drops the printer. Some people it happens often, for others it happens rarely. They've never seemed to figure out how to eliminate it completely. Is this your issue or is it something else? I have found PPL to be otherwise quite stable. Also, when using it as a plug-in, it will take over and not let you go back to PS or LR until you quite from PPL. This is pretty standard for plug-ins as the file is essentially exported in its current state to PPL for printing. If you want the ability to go back and forth between PS/LR and PPL you need to open PPL as a standalone application. I hope this helps. If not, please feel free to contact me at etjoseph@freestylephoto.biz.

Question: When we send you a copy of our printer colors for you to make ICC profiles, what kind of paper should we print the colors on...??

Thanks Eric, I guess the obvious is, well, obvious....!!@@ericjoseph3865

Canon PPL does not provide this type of functionality. There is a program for Windows called Free Layout which does though.

Good video sharing brother!!! Thank you
what a shame it is not compatible with my Canon Pixma Pro 1 printer. Why?

Actually one more question, are you on an Apple computer or Windows PC?
For whatever reason I thought CPPL would work with the Pro-10 but it doesn't seem to. Is this the case?
Nope, he talks right at the beginning of the video, this is not backwards compatible with many of the smaller printers. You may try Print Studio Pro, if you haven't, that's what I have used with a Pro-100 and a Pro-4000.

You can not edit a customer setting once it is set up. Yes, it is a bit clunky. You have to delete the setting and resave it.
