Well this video is a great example of why you were my first RC Tube subscription. I was planning on buying 2 of these as soon they are released, I'll have to reconsider now. It's not such a great gift for a noob when they need to immediately replace electronics. I'll probably still get one for myself, it's not such a big deal for me since I had to replace the electronics in my scx24 before I could use it anyway. Thanks man. 👍

I am also disappointed on receiving mine with the new remote. First thing I noticed was the missing dip switches. Great truck thou.

I bought 2 max smashers from 2 different sellers my blue one came with this new transmitter it is total rubbish it came with the throttle reversed and I could not get it to work the right way i contacted fms got no response, luckily I had electronics from my power wagon to use in it. The white one that came yesterday has the proper power wagon transmitter.

V2 does have adjustable drag brake; it's in the manual. Also My kid has v2 and had no prob doing nose wheely. Maybe he just got lucky and his was sent w/out brake?
When all the reviews are out, you switch to the cheaper electronics. Great!

Yup typical China marketing. Market and advertise the product with all the cool expensive features/upgrades then give you something cheaper then when reviews are out then downgrade it even more..... u mean it's still a decent truck for the price point especially since I've built a couple 1/24 MT using chassis kits,brushless motors,lizard pro escs,spektrum receiver,scx24 aftermarket metal links, etc and most my builds are around $400+ so $160 for an rtr even with the cheaper electronics sill isn't bad

yeah i got the one without the switches on the controller. still did wheelies, reverse a little bit and throttle hard to pull a wheelie. put in thee speed motor and now it will freaking wheelie forward reverse whatever. it will wheelie itself onto its roof now with the speed motor but the stock battery just wont cut it. you need a battery with a higher C rating to really unlock the potential of this beast. for what it is and its cost, i say this is an awesome little small scale monster truck that really does monster truck things.
I was planning on getting on as well, but after the radio switch if got changed to a proper basher.
So are they putting the V2 controller and esc into the fcx24 power wagons aswell from now on ? If so that would be a big deal breaker for alot of people ...

@@paulclancy2404 not having worm gears like scx24 the old remote on fcx24 dip switches controlled drag brake etc. Basically a bunch of settings you would care about in a crawler

Man that's too bad about the transmitter... Was about to order this for my son (and myself) for Christmas and looked forward to having some options on the esc braking. I guess we'll have to live with what we get.
Although mine is with dip switch, the steering gets gitchy after a while. This is a big problem especially when you are hitting full speed. It is a problem with flysky g7p radio too. After opening up the potentialmeter and cleaning it, its fine now but not sure for how long.

So new electronics just lacking "crawler" mode? Never used it🤭 But mine has "old" version.
I put the wpl res v3 electronics in 1 of mine and it's so much smoother plus sound and winch

Sucks that they downgraded the electronics. They've also increased prices quite a bit lately on parts for the FCX24. Hopefully they don't bungle their way out of a good thing. I've messaged FMS (not that I have clout or a direct line or anything), but the more they hear from consumers, the more likely they are to stay on track with us. It'd be a shame to see the FCX24 platform fall away because of bad business decisions.

Bummer on the electronics swap out! I ordered mine while on vacation and it's sitting currently at home and now I'm worried that ill have received the bunk basic electronics when I open it up. I noticed this same type of incognito ESC/TX swap in the licensed LC80 vs the FJ cruiser. FJ cruiser came with different more basic electronics and in comparison they're trash. The motor on FJ gets nuclear hot with 0 mods to the truck and LC80 motor is cool to the touch on a weighted modified truck. Electronics on LC80 were water resistant and FJ electronics were not even incased and just open circuitry.
It's impressive how closely it behaves like an actual monster truck.

Yeah I was disappointed about the Transmitter, didn't find out till after I ordered. Not really a big deal will get changed with the new motor anyway.
Just ordered the Power wagon using the link , thank you ! I got my Trxm yesterday , went back and bought to more for my sons for Christmas and going to make an indoor RC crawl course to endure the winter of UTAH ! So this version will have metal portal gears but plastic trans gears ? How goofy ... and the TX RX fiasco doesnt bother me as I have a 6 channel RXTX and looking making the thing brushless and getting the monster truck tires for both world uses. Do you have a recommend on shocks yet , how about beadlock wheels ?

Tomley did you not notice the new esc has splashproofing compared to the old one not being though? I think the new electrics are better than the old one as forward reversing kills the gears and drive train anyway
That's actually a bummer about the monster trucks. I was considering getting them since they were so fully featured on top of being great in their own right. I might still get them, but it sucks to need to change the electronics.
Everybody who cares should contact FMS through their customer support page on their website and voice their opinion. I did so and they responded within a few hours saying that they will pass my opinion on to their development team. They could just be placating me but maybe they will actually listen.
In my experience they actually have pretty good customer service.

I love the FMS rigs, but I can't find them in Canada. I am a collector of 24th rims and tyres and have come across some very nice tyres that are un-branded, unfortunately, I can't run some of them on my Enduro24 without some serious Dremel work. Can't wait to wrangle a Power wagon.

It's not just the smasher they have done it with the power wagons aswell only a 3 channel now.
You can only have the lights on or off using the bind button not high and low beam.
And you can only have forward brake reverse. Not forward reverse now.

seems like a fun truck for the price of them.
I got my first Max Smasher last week and it came with the old V3 transmitter ESC combo then 4 days later I ordered another Smasher and this one is the new version. My original transmitter has a steering glitch that I've trouble shooted narrowing it down to something in the transmitter because I've bound up my old truck to the new transmitter and it doesn't glitch but not having the new ESC receiver the lights won't work but everything else works ie steering, throttle and gear shift. Originally I thought that the steering potentiometer was at fault for my glitch so I switched it out with the throttle trim potentiometer and it didn't change anything. I do like the fact that the old version even has telemetry from the truck battery and the fact that you can turn off the trim potentiometers by pushing the bind button twice but eventually the pots will wear out. With the new transmitter there's no pots to wear out, potentiometers eventually fail over time sending glitches to the servo's.
Maybe you already know this, but make sure you have fresh batteries in the transmitter.
My v3 starts steering jitter even before the transmitter low battery light comes on. Swap for freshies and it goes away.
@@ZachTrumble already know it, it turned out to be a faulty potentiometer for steering. I took it apart to find 2 of the 5 wiper fingers were bent wrong from assembly at the factory so I bent them the rite way and now it's perfect.
Interesting. Do you have any pictures or videos about what you were talking about? I'm not familiar. Sometimes mine glitches out with steering and I've been able to fix it just by changing batteries

Yeah I’m disappointed also, is there a way to program to eliminate the delay reverse that’s only thing I’m concerned about, but I love the Max smasher I got them both got all the metal gears for transmission The heat sink is my next appreciate you sharing catch you on the next one
So with that Controller/ESC change, can you change the mode on the ESC directly instead? Or has this change effectively killed the Max Smasher as an option for someone who would want to do some mini monster trucking, but also be able to swap wheels over and run it as a crawler?
No option to change anything on the new ESC. It's just a basic forward stop then reverse. 🫤😔
They don't want the sales of the Max Smasher to cannibalize the Power Wagon becasue if you bought the first gen Smasher, you basically got the power wagon as well. This change made sure that if you wanted the drag brake feature, either fork over the dough for the electronics or the Wagon.
@@Diamondbac that's not true, as they will be supplying the same electronics with the power wagon soon, As tomley said in the video.
@@FuddyMucker I hope that isn't true. I have a fcx24 with v3 controller and kicking the drag brake off to overland in 2nd gear is a key feature of the truck.
To change that would be to change a key characteristic of the truck!

Just received my power wagon today and it has the new electronics on it but it does have metal portal gears stock
I believe they use Flysky ANT protocol. The old radio with esc setting is MG41 and the new one without is MG4. Seriously, the radio should improved over time, not go backwards. Take it from LC Racing 1/14 cars. They started with nimh and a 2 channel Batan radio and over time improved them to lipo and a 4 channel Flysky G4P radio. without increasing the price.

The remote wouldn't be an issue if they didn't remove the functions menu. The small remote feels great. Fits in a small bag with the original box.
@@FarmerFpv Exactly! In my opinion these handsets are much better than the huge ones that come with a Mini-Z.
Probably makes sense for the monster truck, but for the crawler do use the drag brake setup from the radio, specially going down hill to send the car coasting without tipping over with the front heavy - loose rear Power Wagon. I hope they keep the good electronics on the Power Wagon!
V2 still has adjustable drag brake. Just can't mess with reverse/brake.

The fms website stocks many accessories for the max smasher. However they don’t state if they are upgrades or spares so I’m not exactly sure what the real upgrades are? Only one I can figure out is the faster motor and heat sink and that’s about it. The rest just seem as spares ?
Maybe you can do a video to explain what the upgrades are as I want them but don’t want to waste money on only spares.
Just got my fcx24 can’t even turn drag brake on!! Really pissed me off when I pull the transmitter out I was like wats this crap 💩 put me in a mood first thing Christmas morning thanks Fms

I see what people are saying as it being a downgrade but as a shop any switches that are on the front both kids and adults tend to mess with them. It's completely right to point it out though

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT - If anyone out there got the Ver. 2/"new version" of the Max Smasher like I did, you can turn the headlights on and off using the bind button on the transmitter (once the rx and tx are powered on and bound, obviously). Not exactly intuitive user interface, FMS. FMS got me SMH
I wonder what handset will come with the FJ45 when that is available to paying customers?
Just went over to FMS to see about buying a power wagon "no shipping options for Canada" that's a major fail on FMS......probably have some contract with the retailers in Canada so they can't ship direct.
Just got my Max smasher and it came with the V2 transmitter that was dead on arrival. Wasn’t pre bound from factory and won’t bind at all. No response from FMS either 😢 I was so excited to bash this little guy too.
My experience with fms has not been good so far either. Fair rc on the other hand was ok until recently. Very disappointed!
On the FMS smasher is it just the forward/reverse/brake thats gone? what other changes have been made, I was about to order one but might go TRX4M instead :/
Can you help me confirm this on the Max Smasher..... The original shipment of these trucks had a different radio and esc. The original radio had the rotary dials and the 4 white switches, one of them which would change the profile of the esc for 100% drag brake for crawling. The newest version, like the one on this video, has a different radio and esc. I can't find any of the original releases and email FMS and this was part of their response, "Also, The 1/24 Smasher RTR added the drag braking function on the ESC of the car, and it can stop without drag braking on steep slopes below 45 degrees, and it can be realized without the transmitter." Can you confirm this feature/capability for me with the new remote?
The power wagon needs metal steering links really bad. That's the only thing I haven't been able to find for mine.

What I'd want is a PNP version use my own TX and RX and a Battery would be cheaper that way orrr same price but higher quality truck.

How does the max smasher do in grass with the open diff? Trying to decide between it and the trx4m
I thought the Smasher came with optional plastic locked diffs so you can turn it into a crawler. The optional parts for it are cheaper and it looks like third parties are jumping onboard with optional parts. In fact, tons of 1/24 optional parts already exist. The 4M wins with its scale look but the proprietary electronics are a turn off. There is no two speed and changing the gears will cost you extra. Plus, the Smasher comes with ball bearings while the 4M doesn't. The Smasher seems like a better deal.
I want one ! I don't know how yet . Still down can't go back to work. Be perfect for in the house . My lmt and smt's are a little big for my living room. I do have targets setting around and enjoy my tanks but I love monster trucks. I gotta figure this out .

There is also another issue with the new controller ..... there's no channel 4 so you can't turn the lights on, when I turns mine on the lights flash then go out and that's it so I've taken the led lights out.
U have to push the bind button after the truck is on. That’s how the lights are controlled.

What!? Woah that's a game changer! That effectively ruins the max smasher as a crossover truck, it's #1 selling point in my mind. I was planning on having a set of power wagon axels and some crawler tires for it and be able to switch back and forth from monster truck to crawler.
When I saw this video I immediately started scouring the internet for a first run smasher. I think I found one on aliexpress. It advertised the v3 transmitter and shows it in the pictures. Hope it's the right one.

Unfortunately, no. Despite pictures of the original controller in the ad, AND ON THE BOX, the Smasher I got has the new one 😔
@@ZachTrumble that sucks. Mine did also. I had to purchase the original esc/controller separately a few weeks ago and I think it might be faulty! (Having issues with steering and shutting off). Now I can’t get a response from them. Fair rc told me straight out that fms knows ppl are mad but don’t care, so they felt bad and did help out a little with a one time discount code for my esc I had to buy, but now I can’t get a response and I’m getting frustrated! Fms really ducked up imo! Good luck sir.
@@sitlos. I did the exact same thing. I have an original transmitter that I ordered from FMS coming. I complained to them a bunch through email and they did offer me free shipping. Hopefully when it arrives it works like it's supposed to.
They kept saying in the emails that the new transmitter has all the same features as the old one which is not even close to true.
If it truly is a supplier issue, they would have been better off to just admit that and apologize to people. Pretending that this new transmitter is the same thing is what makes me frustrated. It's less features for the same money with no warning. Not cool

This may stop me from getting it. I was going to get one in a few weeks. I just pre ordered the trx 4m so I have to wait for extra money however this is a huge no no. I wanted to get crawler rims and tires so I could use it for both crawling and as a monster truck and from what I understand the newer version is not as good for that correct? If so this is a huge let down for sure

That is disappointing that the new electronics can't change from FWD/BRAKE/REV to FWD/REV to allow for nose wheelies. I saw a comment that someone said the throttle was reversed. As cool as they are, and I am lifelong Dodge truck fanboy, I have got too many R/C projects and we all have to "adult". It's a shame they down grade the electronics.
It was not that long ago companies producing a product like this would start with the basic radio and move up to the better transmitters etc. To extend the marketability.
Yea I was debating on this or the Trx4m but now it's an easy decision.

I’m in the disappointment group. I’ve sent FMS a few emails to share my disgust. I got a G3 v1 with a Powerwagon and can’t switch the drags or fed/rev at all. Not even digitally. I hate the digital trims. Rippin pissed about the whole thing. Better to run out of stock and make people wait than do the old bait and switch,call it an “upgrade” and piss off your customer base.
