Has such an enticing speaking voice and an even more enticing message. Truly makes you think more deeply about the bargains you have made and the consequences of those bargains. Must read something of his!
Jakob Ammann what is your definition of a ‘beta male’ exactly? A man who ISN’T ignorant, emotionally constipated, and seething with impotent rage? Keep putting other men down to feel better about your failings, hun - I’m sure that’s working out great for you
So eloquent. So profound. So unique in his words. This guy brings me to tears every time he speaks. The best speaker TED has brought in. (Ordered his book as soon as I finished this talk)
Casey - If I was there I would hug you, not because I agree with you but because I want you to feel love and you are inspiring for self truth and authenticity. I believe Lot's wife looked back, because our world is intoxicating and hard to give up because it is all we know. The world we are promise is based on hope and faith. It is hard to give up on what is known for what is unknown. In my mind the fact that Jesus remembered her, means that he loves her. He remembers all. Even up to the time Jesus was betrayed, he told his disciple... you don't have to do this. He loved him even while he was being betrayed. Love is the entire goal and it is what we all strive for and want to feel even when others don't agree. I hope one day we all will feel that much love for others.
'Embrace your raw, strange magic' is a quote from Mr. Gerald's speech, which reflects on the uniqueness of the individual. The speaker is telling you to love your enchanting self. There is nothing demonic in this message. Don't be ridiculous.
Fantastic. we need to more talks like this to brace ourselves for the change that we must make in the world...The world is going to change whether we like it or not...the consequences of climate change will test us all!
101% fellow Sojourner, DON'T EVA let anyone tell you who you are. The 'Mirror' will Never lie to you, only broken excuse making 'judges' who haven't a clue WHO you are! You're a Winner!
Indeed, "adaptation" is not always a sign of mental health. Being well adapted and praised can sometimes mean your are not being true to yourself or truly thinking honestly. I love your conclusion, as it proves you have truly freed your mind in great part from false morality, thinking by yourself. nb: the vagabond or beggar on the street is often an awesome and kind person that deserves are sincere respect and inclusion.
Love this talk, i could quote many parts that I personally wrote down. One thing tho, ik the books for open interpretation but I feel like he would’ve known many, many metaphors better suited to express bravery than Lot’s wife. To my knowledge the most common interpretation was that she was destroyed because she looked back instead of moving forward, as in her heart was still set in the city’s ways, the ways of her people. When they said the people were so wicked they had to be destroyed, canonically they would’ve been more wicked than the most wicked societies of today, they would’ve been extremely racist, tortured animals mutilated children raped their elderly etc. Im almost certain it’s written that a mob tried to gang rape her husband when he told them they need to change. There are many courageous women with integrity that lived during the bible, I know, but I just think she was a really bad example to choose for that, she was given the chance to move on from all of that and she chose not to. Other than that loveeee this
I feel Casey is using Lot's wife as an analogy for his own story. Supposedly picked out to have a better life than those he grew up around. Supposedly 'saved' from what would have been his future. But he could not forget where he came from and 'looked back', instead of following the rules of the current society. He realised that picking out a few chosen ones to be 'successful' was doing nothing for others who may have been equally gifted, but never given equal opportunities. Listen to the talk again.
Lots wife was sarah btw! Otger than that i think you've asked very much needed question in a much needed societal argument. Questions about how many pieces of ourselves must give away until we realize we're almost all gone and to acquiesce once more might mean giving up that last and most important bit of ourselves. The very bits of us that makes us who we are and who are is the sum of our experiences. With the most honest of voices we must be free to say this is who I've been and what I've done and the things I've seen, thats how we learn the exact nature of our actions. To thy ownself be true!
Casey Gerald has a beautiful southern accent, like sweet molasses and honey flowing down a fountain of truth. I hope he does narratives on Kindle - I could listen to his voice for days; it’s like having sugar syrup in your ears.
I have a different interprétation of Lot's wife death : she turned his eyes to Sodom because she didn't had the courage to abandon the world she was used to live , the uses and costums , ; she was afraid of the unknoun , the the new things , the new chapter of her life after living in Sodom ; this is an actual Lesson of life to the modern people : Don't take Always the easy road , be flexible , try new ways of being or doing things , Don't live a monotonous life Always acting the same way , going the same places , being with the same people or pretending that the road of life is a straight way with things taken for shore !...
It’s not easy for gays to “come out”, after they’ve been taught to hide their identity to fit in. Why did Lot’s wife look back, and turn into salt? Was it out of love and bravery? She died because she couldn't turn her back on her friends. We don’t even know her name. Let us all have the courage of Lot’s wife. twitter.com/tedstalkin
Charismatic, entertaining and interesting, but I'm not sure why these types of talks are taking over TED? I miss the days when it was predominantly talks on ocean exploration, preservation of a species, or new developments to improve lifes. I'm not saying these talks arent worth listening to. I just wish that the self truth talks were in a separate platform.
Im not saying that all but are you saying it is impossible to learn from another side, all im saying as the world changes so are the topics we discuss hence why the increase of ted talks like this
That is so true, you are yourself & NO One can change that. I 'believe' you are President capable, because you're honest, sincere, courageous BUTT (excuse the pun) 'True To Yourself', & that IS what we the people are looking for in a 'Moshe' (Moses). You Are A True 'Believer,Sojourner' & not religious, Poly-Ticker nor do you have FEAR, a true TEDD, you are what you 'Think, Eat, Drink & Do'. \0/ HalleluYHA'. Lot's wife has disobeyed her husband at 1st place. That is the place where she should have put courage first by following her husband who would give protection, before her friends. Thats the courage she rejected.
Agree, well spoken but of no value. When time of agressivity and masculinity returns no one will be strong or willing to protect you. Understand me well. This is not what i am wishing for. It's just a reminder of some reality.

Me too bro
Don't agree, try being a burdan in a relationship and being yourself is worthless to those who u love
I've heard and read a lot of stuff about being authentic to yourself but this one honestly was hella unique and beautiful

Chris Anderson said in a interview that have a new method of finding talks.
Why the change in TED ? I guess that cute BETA male noodles have taken control over TED.
I think its also the fact that people no longer disagree with these topics and as the times changed so are the topics that we need to talk about
