This is a true story of the first generation of Pinoys who went to America as recruited imported cheap Labor. They had a hard time, worked like slaves, and discriminated.
In this day and age, we should not allow racism and discrimination!!! We should fight back. In Manila, I sometimes engage in verbal skirmishes with some discriminating Whites. C'mon this is no longer the period of conquest. No to racism, let's figt back !
They are numbered workers meaning you are known by the number hanging on your neck ,also if you get sick they send your a&$ back to the Philippines,Sakada way

This short is not really about dancing. It's more about not letting fear dictate our life. To every parent out there, never discourage your child, always lift them up to not let fear dictate their life. That's probably the real lesson granpa wanted to give to his apo.
I can understand Fillipinos, because,I am from Greece and in my country people from many years suffer and work hard like slaves,I have tears in my eyes, because young people have many dreams but no money!!!
Literally same. I don't know what overcame me... My modern history teacher played this short film in class as a part of our American Capitalism unit, and I just cried so hard after that my classmates started to console me when they heard me making that annoying sniffing and grunting noise.
It's so painful. Having to give up on your dreams, and living only with regrets until the end of your time. It was so easy how the spark of his love for dancing started again, just like how easy it was for him to realize he's already at the end of his journey. All that wasted time. And all he could do now was pass down to the next generation his regrets, hoping they'll never be like him. Mga _"Pamana"_ ni lolo. I hope Michael learns to love dancing.
This is a beautiful and heart warming film which is deserving an award. Kudos to the producer, scriptwriter, actors and everyone involved in this project!
Hugs to all the first generation Filipino Americans who stopped dreaming and did not follow their hearts because they were not allowed to. Beautiful story telling! Let's remind ourselves to stay kind everyday.
Ang ganda naman po nito at nakakaiyak sa huli 🫂 Nakakarelate din po ako sa last lesson ni lolo about fear and standing still. Sa lahat ng kagaya ko sana mahanap na natin ang courage to move and be unafraid. 🙏🏻 Mabuhay mula Pilipinas.
I'm a student at the College of Music in UP, and I cried throughout the entirety of this film- beautiful storytelling through music and visuals, and hitting really close to home kahit hindi ako Filam/laking US. Sending so much love and appreciation from UPD! Thank you for sharing our Filipino voices, without holding back. ❤️
I cried when the grandpa began to talk, it reminded me so much of my grandpa. English is not our first language, but he spoke English with pride and poise in his voice like the grandpa in the story. He has passed now, and hearing the grandpa speak brought so much memories back to me that I cried so hard. I miss you pappy.
I really love what the director did in the first act where he basically didn't use an audio (except for the music and environmental audio), avoiding dialogue as much as possible, for its entirety - showing that the entire sequence was a memory. Amazing directing, cinematography, sound engineering... an amazing cast - one of the best casting I have seen! I would have watched this as a whole feature film in the cinemas, really!
Thanks for making me cry and It was worth it. I start to become emotional when lolo began to dance alone during his duty as a guard. I know it is very hard to pursue your dream while having struggles in life. The consistency of good story telling, lighting and overall cinematography makes this film really good. I Really love the match cuts and the transitions used.
This was really great and reminded me of my on Grandfather who was like a father to me. Also, he gave me my first pair a nice shoes, "wing tips" as they were called, which I wore on my first date with a girl I liked from school.
this made me throw my head back in laughter hold back tears so I wouldn't cry curl my fists in anger and sob all over again in just a 20-minute video. Thank you.
Excellent work from story, editing and vision. Us filipinos turn what seems as daily mundane work into dance to enliven the task, from planting or harvesting rice to gathering or harvesting grocery carts at a parking lot. If you ever dreamed of becoming a dancer yes never give up, the spirit of dance is always with you. It's just waiting to be harvested
Manongs were Filipino migrants who set precedence for a lot of farm labor union movements in the US. These are Filipino American stories as well. This binary and inflexible thinking is why the diaspora doesn't know our histories.
@@MoBrad1973 True 100% 🇵🇭🇺🇸and it goes vice versa When Chinese Filipinos (Chinoys) in The Philippines makes a story about their struggles and achievements like this in The Philippines it is a Filipino Story 🇵🇭 Or any minorities in every countries :)
@YoBoyA! true. What I am saying is they can be 'both' as opposed to 'only'. There is a critique against the diaspora about not knowing our history yet u saw comments attempting to 'correct' me when the history of the Manongs can be both Filipino and FilAm history. Bc of a change in immigration policies, some of the Manongs didn't make it back home and this is not taught in US history. They had to make roots here w/ some of there descendants very much around. So touching & sad but I know that this happens everywhere & all times. I’m sorry but bullying the not so fortunate. I’m glad that a lot of Filipinos now are proud to show up & stand for what they believe. ❤
What a masterpiece! This is a very beautiful short film specially highlighting filipino-american relation. Loved the story telling and cinematography. I'm being inspired of your work. Congatulations and more of this please!

Absolutely wonderfully created .. and something struck me: when the arm was raised in the field in a dance gesture ~~~ what a feeling of equality of humanity i realized that dancing is. Thankyou for this poignant and lovely film 🙏🏼🌞
What a wonderful, heartfelt short film! The grandpa’s advice is very inspiring. Different generations should be compassionate towards each other even if they don’t fully understand each other’s struggles. Every mistake is worth learning from. Thank you for sharing this beautiful story!
Omg there was something so familiar abt the young Rommel and when I looked it up, turns out he’s the brother of Dante basco (voice actor of zuko) It’s great to see so many Filipino Americans getting more spotlight
This short film brought me to tears. Thank you for this authentic, genuine, and heartfelt movie, it inspires me to do greater things. It's art like these that I love the most. Spectacular work done, and great job to the whole team for capturing this story perfectly!!
I think the era was stretched for dramatic purposes. If Lolo and Lola first came to America in the mid-1940s, they would have been 110+ years old by 2023. If Lolo and Lola were around 80+ by 2023 which is what it seems on the film, they would have ideally come to America in the 70's, right around the rock 'n roll years and disco era which has its own dance history altogether.
Yes, this is also what I’ve been thinking early on while watching. I just took comfort in knowing that although the short movie is inspired from experiences of Filipinos in the US, it’s still a work of fiction, and they have the right to “artistic license”.
Incredible & well made short movie. I have teary eyes at the end of this movie. Great moral lesson to not let fear sabotage your dreams. Thanks for sharing this great upload.👍🏽💕🙏🏽
I cried hard watching this...not because of the racism but how the Filipinos value their family first. Despite all the situations Filipinos have, we keep moving forward for the good of our family. A lot of OFWs had to give up their dreams especially their professions working in other countries as seen as low levelled labor workers, oftn mistreated and not valued as an equal human being. A lot of Filipino parents who tried their best to let their children finish school while working day and night abroad which led for their grandchidren enjoy life abroad. Yes, there are a lot of illegal immigrants and it's wrong but life is very tough in the Philippines that they risked their chance to see their children grow in order to sacrifice for the bright furture of their children and next generations. Filipino genuine smile brings relief to each and everyone even in any hardships, calamities or other bad situations. Thank you for this heartwarming short-film 😭💕. To love our country, we must love our fellowmen, but we should also love ourselves first and above all to love our almighty God.
With a voice like that, Lolo is gonna give Morgan Freeman a run for his money.
Such a great voice specially when he sings.
Was just gonna say!
He's a Filipino George Takei.
That’s Thel Bringas for you 😉. He’s actually a singer.
@@Ren_o5 any links to his stuff? He's got a great speaking voice. Can only imagine how he'd sound if he sang.
