- Prime Minister Keir Starmer told the House of Commons his uncle was torpedoed during the Falklands war.
Though Britain lost 5 ships during the conflict, none of them were torpedoed.
Interestingly, the only ship that was torpedoed during that war was the Argentine General Belgrano.
So make of that what you will.

I was a 22 year old, newly qualified 2nd Lt in the Falklands and if I find that I went through that for nothing, I will not be a happy person. I risked life and limb to keep the Falklands British.

You will be overjoyed to learn that he stated, quite emphatically, that the Falklands question is answered and put to bed with no chance of Argentinian intervention in the subject.
The main difference between the Chagos and the Falklands - and this is s crucial point - is that they are not inhabited by anyone other than a few thousand US personnel and a handful of Royal Navy sailors and Marines to put a polite gloss on the fiction that it's a joint naval base. The UK people look after customs duty and policing outside the base. The Falklands - which in any case are potentially of huge value and also bolster the UK claim to its chunk of the Antarctic - are inhabited. No one's handing it to Argentina. Which regiment were you, out of curiosity?

Well both the HMS Antrim crew and later HMS Fearless crew I served with were brilliant to us pongos.

Exactly. I was in the RAF at the time in 1982 in the largest stores in Europe when Falklands kicked off. Proud to have served and done my bit and hope he doesn’t sell those proud Falklands people out.

The Antelope was sunk when an unexploded bomb went off during a disposal/defusing attempt, The Ardent was sunk by 2 x 500lb bombs, the Sheffield was hit by an Exocet, as was the Glamorgan - etc etc etc. You are entirely wrong about the Galahad.

Having a close friend who was injured in the Falklands conflict - his whole team was wiped out, he survived as he was reporting to the captain when his ship was hit - and an uncle buried in Normandy after D Day, I take very seriously stories of conflict involving allied personnel. To seek some kind of reflected glory by lies is an despicable insult to the memory of genuine heroes!
