  • Cwrt Yr Ala Camp is a defended Iron Age settlement (or hill fort). It stands at the end of the steep sided gorge at Cwm George Woods. It dates back to 600 BC but is believed to have still been in use as late as 78 AD. When the Romans invaded this part of Wales.
Even though it is described as a fort, the people who lived here do not appear to have been focussed on war. First and foremost they were farmers.
