- Hippos are not just one of Africa’s largest mammals, but also among the toughest animals on the planet. Their incredible strength, aggressive defense strategies, and unique adaptations make them the undisputed rulers of their domain. Their skin is extremely thick and tough, up to 1.6 inches in places, providing protection against physical attacks and environmental factors. If they do get an injury their unique skin produces a substance called bloodsweat that works like an antibiotic ointment among other things. Both of those two were too busy fighting, now they're trying to pick a fight with the adult. Hippos maybe cute and cuddly, but are highly territorial aggressive animals; making them king of the African waters
