Contrary to the helpless content update provided by Google, Carl has a real helpful content update - thank you!
😂👍
This video is golden. Thank you Carl!
Going to do wallboard right now, but I'm coming back and binge watch your videos. :)
Thanks Carl. Other so called experts can't give any solution after those updates in last 1 year. At last, you gave some useful/helpful tips.
It might not fix everything but it might also help. 🤞
did it work for you?
@@regalosoriginalesusa4934 nope. 🥲
Thanks, Carl. I was waiting for this type of video from your side. I will apply these tips to my sites.
I hope they help
Thanks for sharing!
You’re welcome
Hi Carl,
Very interesting points.
I noticed that in some cases we didn't lose rank but the impressions and CTR decreased a LOT. The main reason is the way Google is showing the search results. There are so many Google products/widgets before the links that the reader stops there.
Yeah it’s a mess. I’m waiting it out until it all sorts itself out and we have a stable google search engine to work with
Lets rename Google HCU to Google HU (Google hates us)
I did some changes:-
1- grammar correction
2- i improved my content, add and subtract some content
3- - I now have sponsored no-follow tags on Amazon affiliate links. which i forgot to do before.
4- major changes - i changed blod date, minor changes i didn't changed date
And i get some improvements on traffic after google HCU
If you have some more suggestions please reply
While these tips are actually great, I would suggest making decisions based on numbers rather than mare guesses. shortening the content length and pruning the extra words may only work in case the length was diluating the content intent or reducing the score of helpfulness.
make sure to check patterns and see what''s working on the serps. What keywords/ entities are they covering tin their content why their shorter content is doing better than your long form guide.
don't make any changes until you have solid numbers and graphs. I am planning to create a case study on how to diagnose a website's fall with Python soon.
Very interesting video and some good tips here. Would you say it’s wise to change the publish dates on all the articles to keep them relevant ?
Only change it if you make significant changes
Solid tips Mr Broadbent. 👍 Think you might be onto something removing embedded RUclips videos that you did not create yourself.
Yeap. Could be
Hi Carl, Thanks for sharing this. I was hit by HCU in Sept and almost recovered by Nov'23. But this Jan'24 (after 1st week), the organic traffic again tanked). Is there another update by Google? How would I know if I have fully recovered from HCU? Thanks!
There will be lots more updates. I guess you’ll know when traffic increases at the same rate you lost it. Good luck
Hi Carl. Thanks for your vedio. Do you think that if we adopt some proactive strategies, can the traffic increase, or will we need to wait until the next helpful content update?
The RUclips one is confusing.
If it’s true that Google is punishing pages that include helpful related videos, then the HCU is even more unhelpful than I previously thought.
Would love to see/hear some more data on that.
If you have issues with pages after HCU check your GSC see if there’s any error message for video. If not, your all good on that front
@@CarlBroadbent I have a fix for the "outside the viewport issue" if you want it?
Hi Carl, great content thank you, very helpful. Maybe I am missing something, but just confirming with the publish date point. If I have a theme that DOES show the update date as well as the publish date, should I still change the original publish date to now? So let’s say I make some big changes today, should I change the publish date to 12/12/23 and also have the updated date show that date?
Good question. I don’t know which one google will check. I would say if your theme shows the update section. Then just make sure that changes. Try 10 of those and see if google picks up on it. I changed the original date.
@@CarlBroadbent thanks mate, time for me to get testing! Will report back if I notice any obvious differences
Hi Carl,
I lost 2 blog articles after October 6th. I have tried a lot to recover them, and I got them, but now they have gone again. What should I do?
Hey Carl, If I have an "updated on" date, do i need to change the post date also?
No just the update on one
what’s the best way to create a topical map, the usual way of asking ChatGPT doesn’t seem effective so would you recommend a more premium approach like by using keyword research tools for this like aemrush or ahrefs and if so how do you would you go about this?
Check out keyword Cupid it’s the best tool for that
@@CarlBroadbent I’ll take a look at it, have you had success with it
@@CarlBroadbent can you make a video on how you use keyword Cupid to create a good topical map/ keyword clusters and. Possibly use it with seo scout as well if it’s better I’m thinking about using these
Very interesting findings. You said you reduced the word-count by 25-30%. So, this means it doesn't matter whether the article has 4000 words or 1000 words at the moment? About what length of articles are we talking here? Have you done your tests with Info-Content or Affiliate-Content?
Exactly. Income school released a video today about word count. My content is mainly info not tested much on product reviews
Hi carl i am facing a blog post disappearance issue from Google SERP? Have You successfully recovered those posts? If yes, please suggest some points.
No I’ve not recovered mine. Check in Gsc for errors and video issues. If that’s clear. Try to edit sone posts and then manually reindex them. See if that works
Hello Carl, I think that the RUclips videos problems is related to pagespeed. Pages with videos have a really low performance.
👍 yeah could be part of it
Any feedback on whether embedding your own videos were affected or just if you embedded other people's?
I think it’s more about wheee they are and that they have schema and embedded correctly
Question why remove youtube embeds? Aren't they helpful?
I was getting error on all pages with videos in google search console
Interesting about the embedded RUclips videos. I wonder what the impact would be if you linked to your own YT videos. I wonder if YT can relate the two?
I’m not sure yet if it’s all videos. I was getting lots of error messages in GSC and that’s what alerted me to the issue
@@CarlBroadbent I've seen the message too. I decided to ignore them because the don't make sense. Then again...I'm stuck in the Sandbox....so...there's that.
@@CarlBroadbent Video out of viewport? If that is the case, the video needs to be in the intro paragraph. Also, schema for video is a must, otherwise GSC won't index it.
I know how to fix this issue its about the video not fitting inside the space of the HTML , might create a post on one of my sites about it lol
@@igorivanvoski4834 won’t index the entire post?
My popcorn theme that I have does not show updated on my articles. How do I show this?
Submit a ticket Jo and I can show you how to get it on there. It’s a template part. But I can screenshot in a ticket how to do it step by step
@@CarlBroadbent I was able to fix but my spacing seems off between published and updated dates. How do I formatt🤪
Phil can sign in on my site as he has my log in👍
@@joannejensen4369 are you sorted with this ???
@@CarlBroadbent I sent a reply. I was able to add but the spacing between published and updated is off. Phil has my sign in permission from last time. Other than that it’s all good. 🌸
Great insights, especially on the impact of shortening content. It's interesting to see the positive results you've achieved by reducing fluff and updating articles. Also, the emphasis on user intent and staying current with trends is spot on. Have you considered experimenting with structured data to enhance the visibility of your content in search results? It could complement your strategies well. Keep up the valuable content! 👏
Yea we have implemented that as well. Nothing really shot the needle through the roof but small gains is better than none
I also done the same things to my website and my traffic is 50% increased. I would also add the another thing is to remove the any type of external links it will also help to regain the rankings.
Glad yours is improving
Remove external links? This is odd, can you elaborate?
@@brazenautomation It means to just remain the internal links that are from your own article to article just remove the any other links that you have embedded as the external source of information.
Hi dear sir my site issue is that someone has made spam links on my site that are still continously creating on site automatically and after september when hcu comes my site traffic now continously decreasing fastly in sep traffic 50k now it is 2k can you help me to remove these spam links that are creating on site daily basis and traffic going down fastly plz tell me how i can recover site from this issue links are about 100k spam

Go to google disavow and get rid of them. Block domain for each one. Takes about 6-8 weeks to work
@@CarlBroadbent dear i have done it but issue is that as the affect of disawao comes mean about after 6 week of disawo affects come but till that new become and i again do disawao the new become somone making automatically so plz is there any solution for stopping them let me know plz
@@zahidali-eg4wg you just need to keep disavowing off they are a problem every 3 months. Google ignores most spam links. But if you’re worried keep submitting new disavow file
