My favourite Ghibli movie, an absolute masterpiece; also this is the first video I've seen on this channel where they actually care about pronunciation, thanks
Man... you know that feeling when you wanna watch more, even though there’s only one iteration... that’s this film for me. And although we won’t get something quite like this again, I’m glad I’ve watched this in my lifetime. This is my favorite anime movie
Bonus Fact: The name Okoto (the blind Boar God) means "The Eye" in Bulgarian! AND Miyazaki sent a Japanese Katana to the head of Disney as thanks for publishing the film in the West. However, he attached a label that read "No Cuts" - referring to Disney's request to edit his film for a younger, western audience!
This is my favorite Miyazaki/animated film of all times! I love the deep and mature themes of the movie and the interaction between San and Ashitaka; especially Ashitaka's quest to "see with eyes unclouded by hate." His and the struggle between man and nature is beautifully well presented in my opinion. Sigh* I love this movie :)
My dad bought this movie for me as a Christmas present when I was in the fourth grade. It floored me then, watched it three times that night! Still my all time favorite movie. Still gives me chills!
You know it’s a good film when you watch it and immediately want to watch it again afterwards. Seriously my favorite movie of all time. Great video about it!
I really grew up watching Nausicaa. The best time I remembered first watching this was on a random channel with my father. Together we were amazed at the amazing artwork, music, and story. We both found out later it was Studio Ghibli and Miyazaki for the director. Thank you, Miyazaki for the great films!
I really appreciate the work that goes into American English dubs for Ghibli films. So many anime dubs are just awful the actors seem to be trying to be as irritating as possible, but Ghibli always does its best to make a phenomenal masterpiece.
I saw Wolf children on TV and just had to buy the DVD. Its such a good movie. For those who haven't watched it, as the name implies its about a single mother who is trying to cope with her children on her own, who can transform into wolfs at will. Only she knows about this from the father, who was also a wolf man. through out the film there are time skips as the children age, and the children must face life's obstacles to keep their ability a secret.
i start to love Hayao Miyazaki so much i'm so inspired by his ABSOLUTE AMAZING work i remember as achild i was scared from them but nowadays i grew up to IDOLIZING them, so Miyazaki, thank you SO much
I grow up with the English dub and back then my English is bad enough that I couldn't understand a single thing but the visual of the movie made the 7 year old me entertained without knowing the story 😂
It's a beautiful mesh of Tarzan/The Jungle Book, Dances with Wolves, Fern Gully etc. but far more badass. Flawless animation, beautiful music, fantastic character design. Can't complain.
Hello! Halo fan here and just wanted to comment how I knew when okkoto (who is voiced by Kieth David in the english dub) said "demon" it sounded very familiar and since the Arbiter is also voiced by Kieth, I now know why!
The very first time I saw any part of this movie was a few minutes of the wolves talking while flipping through stations on my Dad's hotbox. (A hotbox was a device used to steal cable before the switch to digital signals. Back before dvds exhisted and video stores were still profitable businesses) It wasn't until some time later during our monthly trip to the video store that I stumbled across a vhs box with the wolf on it and I got to see the whole movie. It was both my first Ghibli film and, as far as I know, my first anime film.
Princess Mononoke is on of those films I knew I would enjoy from the moment I saw the art. I adore the movie and San was my entire reason for watching it. I love the raised by animals trope and the scenery in Mononoke is breathtaking. Everytime I see the film I want to go hiking and just look at nature. As for them keeping the title Mononoke due to inability to translate it, I consider that a smart decision. The most simple translation is spirit, but the nuanced translation is spirits created by people, in the Japanese Mononoke myths the spirits that haunted were created by people's insecurities and hate. Those powerful emotions gave form to horrible representations. In a way referencing that the titular spirit of princess Mononoke are only made so in the eyes of the humans and only due to their hatred, well save for the dolls which more reference the ambient spirits. It's an extremely nuanced meaning that is best left to research rather than translate. Edit: originally I used monster in place of spirit but upon further thinking bakemono refers specifically to a monster while Mononoke refers more to ambiguous spirits with there being some fueled by hate and others that simply inhabit a place.

While I do find the Japanese version superior, I quite like the, recently released, Norwegian dub of the movie. Moro's norwegian voice is simply marvelous. I have not seen, nor do I intend to see, the english version
I am going to watch this movie at 2:09 am can't sleep I rented this movie from Hollywood home video before streaming services I was in High School when I saw this movie so when I was 15 years old I fell in love with this movie fun fact this was the very first studio Ghibli movie I watched Spirited Away and Kiki's delivery service and Ponyo are my favorite Princess Mononoke is my number one go to all the time it doesn't matter if its subbed or dubbed what is important is the message
Miyazaki said that he was planning to create a new porco rosso movie. It was to be called porco rosso the last sortie. He said the movie was about marco the pig flying during the period of spanish civil war. Sadly i never heard more after the interview was made which was in 2010s.
I actually prefer the english dub, but don't mind the japanese one. I'm actually going to go and see Princess Mononoke in theaters on the 5th for it's 20th anniversary. Very excited.
I've seen both the american and japanese dubs. The japanese one had subtitles. I'm a Ghibli fan. Both dubs are just as great, but the japanese one is something very few others can parallel.
While watching this I learned something; for the longest time I though that my first Studio Ghibli movie was Ponyo when in reality it was the one movie I was terrified of when I was younger; Castle in the Sky. And yet I'm sure my parents don't know what Studio Ghibli is.
My favourite Ghibli movie, an absolute masterpiece; also this is the first video I've seen on this channel where they actually care about pronunciation, thanks
Just goes to show that they can adapt if people ask for it! It just takes time to find people, I guess.
Better than katniss everdeen haha but some flaw at 50 to ending
Maybe you should express your opinion more respectful
You didn't have to be mean...
Even with the pronunciation of Neil Gaiman and Gillian Anderson??
If Zelda was ever made into a movie, Ghibli would be the people who should handle it!
I think majoras mask or breath of the wild would be the top contenders for a ghibli adaptation. Maybe majora is a little too dark though
