Studio Ghibli movies are actually amazing. I watched a lot of films when I was a child and I almost forgot all of them and their storylines even though I loved them. Yet, Spirited Away and Howl's Moving Castle always existed in my mind. Surprisingly, when I was 16 I still remembered every single detail of the film. That's how much I love the film.
"Howl's Moving Castle" wasn't the first Studio Ghibli movie I ever saw, but it was the one that convinced me that not all Japanese animation would annoy the heck out of me. The art was beautiful, the story good, and the dubbing well-done, and most of the anime tropes that get on my nerves weren't present or were limited. It also holds a warm place in my heart because I bonded with some of my floor-mates over the movie my Freshman year of college. I didn't make many friends in college, because I was under a lot of stress and in the process of burning out, but those two were good friends, and helped me maintain my sanity longer that I probably would have otherwise.
Ponyo was the first film I watched, and there was just such a beautiful type of love between the characters where they loved each other without expecting anything back. It got me hooked as a kid because I thought that’s how it should be. It was such an innocent love that had nothing to do with romance and everything to do with falling in love with someone’s soul

We now need a 107 facts about Studio Ghibli part 2 as it's been a long time since you made this video, and in this time Miyazaki has came out of retirement ONE MORE TIME to make The Boy and the Heron and some people even say it's the last Ghibli movie, so pls make a part 2
Fun fact: Hayao Miyazaki never actually thought that his early manga drawings were basically copies of Osamu Tezuka's. As he writes in his book "Starting Point" ; "I have absolutely no recollection of ever imitating Tezuka, and I have never thought that there was any resemblance between our styles, but people kept telling me that my drawings looked like his. That was terribly humiliating. " "So when I was finally forced to admit that my drawings actually DID look like Tezuka's, I took out the sketches I had stored in the drawer of our (the Miyazaki family) dresser and burned them all."
I’m watching this again... I want to cry because Isao Takahata died. I remember watching so many Studio Ghibli movies when I was younger. I still watch Studio Ghibli movies but it feels more special now than it did when I was younger
I believe it was around 6 years ago, 6 years ago when the dreams started to occur. I was 11 years old and I had a dream about a magical land in which I can only describe as being awfully familiar. It was a land of wonder and beauty. Over the years I had reoccurring dreams of this land, this country. Then it happened. I saw it. I was surfing the internet when I suddenly recognised an image from some website, with a title hovering over the image saying "Spirited Away". I immediately researched this film, and discovered that when I was a child, around 5 or 6 years old, my Japanese grandfather would show me these Studio Ghibli films, they stayed with me and shaped the person that I am today. Today is the one year anniversary of his death, and all I have to say is that I loved him so much. I find it incredibly difficult to describe the feeling Studio Ghibli movies impart on me, but from now on they will always remind me of a distant relationship with my grandfather.
I get that feeling too. I can't describe it more than that it's weirdly melancholic (closest thing i can think of to describe it). It isn't because of a loss though. I don't know why i feel it
Kiki's Delivery Service was one of the first pieces of Japanese media that really captured my attention in contrast to American media. I had watched various anime because they were syndicated on channels I watched but Kiki's Delivery Service went way above and beyond. Others followed like Howl's Moving Castle, Laputa, and Princess Mononoke. Ghibli created some amazing classics that have held up over time. These are the films I plan to show my children so they realize there's so much more than Pixar/Disney. People hailed Frozen for addressing deep subjects and such yet I still feel it pales in comparison to what is normal for many Japanese works. American media is more like junk food. Chips and cookies have their place, but a high quality potato chip is still a potato chip.
I've got to say, my favourite studio Ghibli is whisper of the heart and i think it goes under the radar too often. I mean i love all of them but that one is great
Studio Ghibli's work is deep. I like Spirited Away, but there are so many masterpieces. The pictures are good, but the script and expressions are great.

@@SlightlyOtaku I was actually surprised that you got that one right. Your pronounciation there was spot on from a germanic language speakers point of view, and with Heidi being a germanic name, that was spot on.
107(a) Japan was glad to have an Oscar winning film in "Spirited Away"; Hollywood, not so much. Shortly after the win, the Academy changed the nominating rules for animated features, for the purpose of stacking the deck against future Ghibli films. Howl fact: Miyazaki did not go to Hollywood to collect his Oscar for "Spirited Away" in the spring of 2003. He claimed a schedule conflict, but he actually was against going to America on what would have been the fifth day of the US invasion of Iraq to overthrow the government of Saddam Hussein. At the time Ghibli was working on "Howl's Moving Castle", based on a fantasy romance by Diana Wynne Jones, but Miyazaki rewrote the script to add a solid anti-war subplot.

please a 107 facts on Ponyo! There's so much more to Ponyo than meets the eye, unlike what most people think. It's brimming with trivia, fun facts and cultural references, both Asian and Western, and it's all a lot of fun to discuss! I didn't realise how much studio ghibli shaped my childhood. I watched alot of their movies on TV and I loved them. It makes me really appreciate the art. The animation always makes me dreams.
We need 107 facts on Kiki’s Delivery Service. My story: 2004 was the first time when I watched it, I was 4 and watch it with my grandmother a lot on VHS from the library📚. When I was 6, I moved and never saw Kiki again. 12 years later, my grandmother died😢 and after 3 more years later. I revived watching Kiki‘s delivery service:.) It still holds up to this very day and gave me tears of joy. To come back after 15 years and remembering those times that I had with my grandmother.🥲 (Personally, I still have a little crush on Kiki when I was 4 and still do even though I’m older, such a beautiful witch and a great movie).
Here is fact 108, I am the ONLY voice actor that has played kings in TWO English dubs of Ghibli Miyazaki movies! Nausicaa and Howl's. My Aunt can't stop talking about it.
Nausicaa isn't an unofficial Ghibli movie. The studio that produced it, Topcraft, was dissolved and formed into Ghibli and nearly the entire production staff was carried over. If this wasn't enough, the studio bought the rights long ago and now all releases of the film are adorned with the logo on the box art and title screen precedes the film itself. I know some stingy people like to hold onto the concept that it isn't a Ghibli film, but it is in pretty much every way. Miyazaki also didn't come out of retirement to make Boro the Caterpillar, as he only retired from feature films, not side projects like short films and manga (hence why he's also currently drawing and writing a samurai one).
Josh Leitzel Ghibli was officially formed in 1985 while the movie was done in 1984. We called it unofficial simply because it was done before the studio was even known as Studio Ghibli. Of course, Miyazaki himself considers it a Ghibli movie. As for retirement, we know. He isn't coming out of "retirement" just because he's working on Ghibli shorts.
Yeah, pretty convenient timing. Though I think we should temper our expectations, as the proposal was never said to be confirmed yet. And even if it were, I think it's heavily implied that it would merely be an expansion of the already aforementioned CGI Boro the Caterpillar short film.
Honestly this animation studio is much better then Disney because they explore more into human emotion and the story telling in every film they made had the mentality of. " if this flops we out." They give everything into there films were Disney started to give into the cash easy cow. 🐄
I 100% agree that Ghibli is far, far better than what Modern Disney has put out. But if you mention the classics (Fantasia, Bambi, Pinocchio, etc) then I'd say they're on very similar levels with those
@@ladyangelsongbird the Disney classics are all really good, but they are children’s films, (except Fantasia )there are very few ghibli children’s films. So it’s not really a comparison people should make
@@tellymustard5511 I respect your opinion, but I must add in that Disney's movies are mainly meant for all audiences (with the older ones being exceptionally mature in some regards.) Ghibli and Disney make completely different movies, so it's still difficult to compare them since both of them have made such beautiful works of art. My apologies if I seem biased in anyway (I am quite biased when it comes to classic Disney movies, LOL) and since I've only recently gotten into Ghibli, it's still hard to make a comparison
b r u h. I literally paused the video after fact 11 and said "Do you pronounce ghibli with a hard or soft g?" and scrolled through the comments. After about 10 secs, I continued the video and then fact 12 came 2:46
@@whateverbabe And is studio Ghibli, with a hard g. Is named after an aeronautical Italian engine, so hard g is correct, as "gh" is used in Italy as a hard pronounce, and "g" as a soft one.
Totoro and Ponyo are 2 of my daughters favorite movies , she gets more mesmerized by these movies than any disney movie. Love Ghibli every movie i've watched has blown my mind in so many ways
You guys forgot to mention the fact that creator of Neon genesis evangelion helped Hayao Miyazaki with Princess Mononoke. It was mentioned in one of the ghibli movie DVD's extras.
I write about anime--IRL my name is Patrick Drazen--and there is so much to say about "Marnie", including the two kabuki ghost stories referenced in the Ghibli version, and the fact that the Ghibli version now takes place on Tanabata--the 7th day of the 7th month--a day when your deepest wish can come true. Based on a Chinese legend of two heavenly beings--a weaver and a cowherd--who fall in love but can only be with each other one day per year--this cosmic Romeo/Juliet story was also animated--kinda--by Sanrio, the Hello Kitty people, as the film "The Legend of Sirius", released in the west as "Sea Prince and the Fire Child."
Honestly it amazes me that as a kid my mom loved Heidi and when I was younger I loved ponyo ghibili was subconsciously something that we both grew up on
Isao Takahata also directed the first-ever TV adaptation of Anne of Green Gables. Much like Heidi did for the Swiss Alps, tourism to Prince Edward Island in Canada boomed as a result of the series.
Ghibli made a huge impact in my life when I was a child... not Disney (sorry) and now I travel a lot to many places which inspired many Ghibli movies. This is also the reason why I love Japan. :)

2004 was the first time when I watched it, I was 4 and watch it with my grandmother a lot on VHS from the library📚. When I was 6, I moved and never saw Kiki again. 12 years later, my grandmother died😢 and after 3 more years later. I revived watching Kiki‘s delivery service:.) It still holds up to this very day and gave me tears of joy. To come back after 15 years and remembering those times that I had with my grandmother.🥲
(Personally, I still have a little crush on Kiki when I was 4 and still do even though I’m older, such a beautiful witch and a great movie).

Welp, what were the chances of this happening:
io9.gizmodo.com/hayao-miyazaki-is-stepping-out-of-retirement-for-one-fi-1788928111
Yeah, pretty convenient timing. Though I think we should temper our expectations, as the proposal was never said to be confirmed yet. And even if it were, I think it's heavily implied that it would merely be an expansion of the already aforementioned CGI Boro the Caterpillar short film.
Princess Mononoke My Favorite Studio Ghibli Movie
You guys forgot to mention that Howl's Moving Castle is based on the amazing book by Diana Wynne Jones

1:43 Not the first time Italians and Japanese people have collaborated
Honestly this animation studio is much better then Disney because they explore more into human emotion and the story telling in every film they made had the mentality of. " if this flops we out." They give everything into there films were Disney started to give into the cash easy cow. 🐄
all Disney films are absolutely awful
@@tellymustard5511 Maybe not all.
Grave of the fireflies got me interested but whisper of the heart made me a huge fan
b r u h. I literally paused the video after fact 11 and said "Do you pronounce ghibli with a hard or soft g?" and scrolled through the comments. After about 10 secs, I continued the video and then fact 12 came 2:46
I kept going "no not jibli noooo" then "it was named after ghibli"
:') why
I keep on saying gibli instead of Jibli lol
Hard to change it ...
@@whateverbabe And is studio Ghibli, with a hard g. Is named after an aeronautical Italian engine, so hard g is correct, as "gh" is used in Italy as a hard pronounce, and "g" as a soft one.
@@AlexandruLipan oh that's good then thanks for informing me
@@AlexandruLipan as he said in the video though, the studio is pronounced with a soft "g", as the title in Japanese is pronounced "jiburi".
Another fact : Hideaki Anno Was The One Who Voice Jiro Horikohi .
He also helped in making the hardest scenes to animate in Nausicaa
I'm gonna Love this. Thanks Frederator!

Aqua Cat YEAH
Honestly it amazes me that as a kid my mom loved Heidi and when I was younger I loved ponyo ghibili was subconsciously something that we both grew up on
Pleeease do Kiki's Delivery Service!!!!
Thank you so much for posting this! I have to do a presentation on Studio Ghibli and this is going to be very useful! Great video compilation by the way. :)
I'd recommend you to watch The Kingdom of Dreams and Madness if you're a fan of the Studio Ghibli films or an aspiring animator/artist~
Respect for all of these three Humans; also, rest in peace, Mr. Takahata; you gave a lot to the world.

Hayao Miyazaki created my whole childhood
Dude, Ponyo and Secret World of Arrietty were my childhood. I used to watch them every day.
