    My twitter below & thanks for watching this. My views of the chars' gameplay don't reflect the story utility like Hei, Kaz, etc:
    x.com/NapBlack/status/1752892687689163214?s=20
    Potentially might shift my criticisms a bit on the side characters part, since the world war addition from a gameplay lens showcases the context of characters having their own usage to progress the plot in practical ways.

    T8 story mode is what happens when a lazy fandom just accepts whatever slop the series gives them. Outside of spectacle, I can’t see anything enjoyable here. If this is the direction that a 30-year old franchise will take, then fans deserve better, not to be content with mediocrity. Tekken’s story has been better, and unless fans care more than not all, Tekken’s story WON’T be better.

    Definitely dont get why Azucena and Leo were the best they could do as a secondary special character intro. I get she's supposed to be easygoing and passionate about coffee. But at the fate of the world? Makes her seem callous, dumb, and psychopathic.

    • @NapBlack

      Agreed. A lot of people seem to have enjoyed that style of characterization for Azu during the war, but it does, in fact, make her a moronic nut case. Late in saying this, but franchises can always learn from its mistakes and strive for more if they're hungry and have the opportunity. One advantage is that TK is old, so there's probably some hidden old stuff that can be re-introduced or used as inspiration to improve or challenge current char dynamics. (DLC story extensions will be present, as we all know)
      Spider-man does this to this day regarding the "aggressive" Black suit/Symbiote arc that was popular in the 90's cartoon due that "aggressive" trait that was new and original at the time. This was later used in future projects by numerous writers/directors and has been a mainstay ever since
      Few characters in media (from what I know) that a have similar arc for Jin with a convincing journey:
      Shayera hol (Hawkgirl) :
      Justice League Season 1 & 2 or watch the 3 part season 2 finale => Starcrossed
      Justice League Unlimited Season 1 Episodes => The Return & Wake the Dead
      JLU Season 2 Episodes => Clash & Hunter's moon
      (RUclipsr => J's reviews has a story review & analysis playlist with timestamps on all of this Justice league material if you want immediate info)
      Sasuke Uchiha's Shippuden storyline (Naruto) & the events for him after the 4th Shinobi World War.
      (For a Sasuke Uchiha intro, YT creator "Swagkage" is a good source for summaries if you haven't seen Naruto?)
      Wanda/Vision has the concept of society fearing Wanda as the "aggressor/monster" but she doesn't learn the story's lesson in living with what she's done, as her intentions scarred those around her & society will never get renewed since they're all background characters. The writers were unorganized with it

    • @NapBlack
      @NapBlack  10 месяцев назад +5

      That main T7 costume was never canon. After his T6 suit, he wore that souq clothing & from there, he wore his post credit clothes that was more or less TEKKEN blood vengeance inspired. (That's not in 8 either, but T8 is a 6 month timeskip from 7's events).
      Point is that Jin's T7 fit is like his T8 announcement trailer karate fit that he didn't wear in the main T8 story. Not canon, but it's available in the game for fans to use.

    Tekken story isn't masterpiece by any means, but i always found the lore in the earlier games interesting and there are amazing and wholesome moments with characters, however i think the writers and Harada has made the story worse. Most character are stuck in same situation in each and don't progress while Mishimas get the spotlight.
    Tekken 6 was the worst character assassination for Jin
    Tekken 7 tries to twist morality and make us sympathise with Heihachi due to Harada's bias while weakening Kazuya's story. Heihachi has done nothing to earn any sympathy so that bullshit didn't work. Oddly, i find Kazuya more easier to sympathise with due to trauma and suffering he faced as a child because of his father which led him took dark path. Its insane to me that Harada wants us sympathise with literal child abuser because his son "might be devil" when Heihachi is the one causing them to happen while trying to paint Kazuya as generic evil villain as possible. Sure, Kazuya was never a good person and was motivated by revenge and power, but he used to have more humanity and nuance to him.
    Also, yeah Jin's redemption is ambitious, but kinda doesn't feel genuine to me.

    • @NapBlack
      @NapBlack  9 месяцев назад +5

      Agreed yea. The story was sincere with what it wanted to do up until a certain point. ("Good story with bad storytelling" as one of commenters share)
      It's more of a Tsukuyomi That you've seen already. At first Glance you'll raise an eyebrow when I say, "the Mishimas are butchered in the writing." & then you'd have to look at the diff recent games from 6 to 8 & see that it's so warped how Kaz may have been very sympathetic with potential there in the lore, but that gets sent to the trash to rehash the idea w/ Hei & Jin in less satisfying ways that don't do their characters meaningful favours due to dishonesty or a flawed execution.
      Thanks for commenting.

      @@NapBlack No problem. This video was great watch and i agree with you wholeheartedly about Tekken 8 story. They really should've leaned in more to show consequences of Jin's actions by having people still hate him for what he did(and have Miguel and Eddy be there), but they kinda gloss over his atrocities to sell the idea of him being Hope of humanity. When thinking about good redemptions arcs like Cecil Harvey's, Luke fon Fabre's and John Marston, etc. Jin's redemption arc feels like wasted potential and that Jin got off bit too easy.

    • @NapBlack
      @NapBlack  9 месяцев назад +3

      It's so funny how Jin's char arc is a mirror to Wanda's story from Wanda/Vision in some ways. Those writers did a decent job in showing how public opinion wasn't in her favour by the end of the story & earlier on, their free will was taken from them & living fake lives. Wanda's char execution was a flop though since she didn't learn the story's lesson of being accountable for your actions, as they carry consequences that can be scarring for those involved.
      For Jin, having supporting chars would've been more believable if you did in fact mix that with secondary TK chars that were casualties of the T6 war in addition to society. How you have a TK tourney held by Kaz & don't have him exploit Jin's unpopular reputation after that NY debate w/ a whole crowd of people that felt Jin's wrath, alongside an announcer that has to give char summaries for said people is beyond me.
      For FG chars, I have an easier time supporting Scorpion & Siegfried than Jin in this case.

    • @teriosshadow17

      Harada announcing that they wanted to showcase DLC characters for the main story mode to show their slice of life for free didn't come from nowhere because I sent this to the team to watch this & and criticize that Miguel/Eddy not being in the story hurts both the theme of "breaking the chain," & Jin's attempted char arc. Miguel, forever not having real family loss closure, is saddening cause him being DLC means there's nothing besides special intros if we use T7's dlc structure.
      Kaz is also butchered cause you really can't setup that there is good in him cause of his TK history/bodycount, his T7's char assassination & T8's content all around. I suggested that they kill Jun in T9 since she's the only person that cared for him & Kaz could open up, realizing he could fight for someone that was genuine than for his shallow, selfish desire for destined chaos (I also made fun of how he's very inconsistent with his goals/ attempts at being a consistent villain cause it's that easy to do)

    • @NapBlack
      @NapBlack  9 месяцев назад +1

      @younes9745 Yea, T7 was my first real TK game, & I looked up the story & played older TK games/ looked up the chars afterward. Like any franchise, you do lose interest in the story, as TK's issue is the lack of consistent progress on its chars. If not that, then there's thinking how new ideas clash with the old in damaging ways. I shouldn't have to dumb myself down & not be diplomatically critical in what could be improved upon which is easier to pinpoint in TK because of how much content is there to improve char interactions in the main game.
      Shonen content like Naruto + modern storytelling for gaming can have its chars be grounded & explore themes that progress the chars & world in consistently positive ways from a writing viewpoint. (Yes, Naruto isn't perfect for clarity, but the chars do work in a lot of ways. Villains having a motivation that the viewer/reader can understand with the context there)
