Congratulations Mick for the Top Content Creation. You managed to do exactly what it said on the tin. 100% Answered all my questions to do with the renovation of a lawnmower cassette. Keep up the good work !
Thanks for recommending this video. It's took me many searches to get the right terminology. Then I still couldn't find it haha. Appreciate it. I inherited the classic 35s from a friend who was taking it to the tip because he couldn't get it started. 🤦🏻♂️ I was like "NOOOOO". I admit I'm a noob at this but it was similar to the lawnmower my grandad used, I had to have it. Now all I have to contend with is getting wrong off the missus for turning the garage into a full blown repair shop 😂 Gonna be my pet project for the next few months.
The DJI mics are great, we use them a lot. I activate the red light on mine so it records on the actual mic as well just incase you accidently lose the audio to the camera so you have a back up file on the actual mic.
Hey Mick - Ever since I picked up an Atco 17S a couple of weeks ago - I 've been following most of your videos. Have stripped the carb and fuel system runs pretty well with some fresh oil in it. Stripping it down following this video and have a few simple questions.... Where do you go for your ATCO parts ? What type of paint are you using for the Black and Red ? Did you use any primer ?
Hi mate .. I use garden hire spares for most parts.. post box red for the cylinder.. and any type of black satin for the black... No undercoat needed...
Hi Mick. Bear with me, Stroke Survivor here. Just bought 2nd hand Allett Suffolk Punch Electric Cylinder Mower. Stripped, cleaned, backlapped it and works great. My query: 1 of the screws that lowers the blade to the bed knife managed to turn with force to be able to backlap. If the blade cut to the end of the season now, what would you recommend?
@themowerman when it's time to do the paper cutting test, you have to turn the 2 screws/bolts to move the blades closer to the bed knife. I managed to get the blades smack on and cut the paper all the way across. 1 of the screws/bolts managed to just about let me complete the paper cut test, so now the mower is ready to use. I was asking, if the blades last to the end of the season, I want to fully remove the screw/bolt that won't tighten anymore and find out why it is so stiff/tight/seizing. I used wd40 and that helped it move a few mm but I thought I would leave as is, just incase you said "Don't touch it now if it's usable, unscrew it fully at the end of the season". Does that make sense Mick. Just want to know in advance whether it's just a case of being able to just remove that 1 adjusting screw/bolt, clean the thread and retighten, or if in your experience it's something else.
@@amandapetermendez1725 ok I see.. yeah use it for now and at the end of the season just take it out and give the bold a clean or replace it for a new one..
Hi Mick have you stripped down the scarifying cassette for these machines ? I have a qualcast 35s scarifying cassette with missing springs and also the springs also out of alignment. There is nothing on the web for dealing with this. Perhaps your next video ? Thanks and keep up the good work.
Fantastic vid Mick. Delighted to find this as I'm refurbishing a cutting cassette. Also had two broken spindles on a scarifier cassette so with the knowledge from this vid, I can replace those. Quick question though for you Mick, could you recommend a bearing puller or bearing puller kit that would handle the removal of the bearings. Thanks so much in advance!
Thanks a million Mick. Super appreciated. My brother and I really enjoy the channel. A mine of great information. All the best to you, Riley Boy and your family!@@themowerman
Anybody know if there's a compatible equivalent to the bearing rings and the felt seal rings that match (F016T40266,F016L02968). Can't get the felt seal rings anywhere, and tried the sealed bearing rings but they too small for the cylinder shaft! Any help much appreciated

Excellent video. Had a nightmare with my 10 blade the other day only recently had it back from a regrind and the grass box hanger bolt came out and cylinder ate it! Not too much damage but ended up knocking out alignment. Took me a good couple of hours and a backlap to get it to cut again and still not 100% What is the most common cause if its cutting at the sides but not middle? Yet any further adjustment lower causes the cylinder to catch bottom blade at the corner? I also find it awkward to screw on bottom blade as you can determine angle ever ao slightly so i guess it depends on the profile cut and needing to match it to cylinder. Thanks
@@themowerman if replacing bottom blade to a new one does it need to be matched to cylinder at the time of grinding or would it generally be a good cut out the box providing cylinder is good?
MIke, i greetings. i have a question about the bed knife. I have just found your channel Mick and what a treasure trove of information it is. Well done. I am refurbishing a Balmoral 20SE that I picked up at a good price on eBay 3 or 4 years ago, but then got sidetracked into other projects. I have stripped the cassette following your excellent 10 June video and have a couple of questions. 1. The bearings are cup and cone rather than the sealed items in your video. Presumably these can be refurbished or replaced as necessary. 2. The bearing carriers appear to have been adjusted to the full extent of their travel - they cannot be advanced any further to ensure that the proper setting of the cylinder against the bottom blade can be achieved. Is it likely that the cylinder has been ground to the limit of it’s usefulness (whatever that might be)? I measure the diameter of the swept circle of the cylinder blades to be about 132mm. Any guidance you can offer will be most appreciated.
Hi mate .. firstly thanks for checking out the channel.. yeah you can change the bearing over.. secondly how warm is the bottom blade? It may be possible to renew it and get a little more lift out of the cylinder
OK - I have just cleaned off all the corrosion. It is not a pretty sight. I have seen a specification online for a new blade which is 81.9mm wide. Mine is 75mm at one end and 76mm at the other - not even straight. It looks like it has been ground by hand. I guess it's a replacement bottom blade then. Are the non-genuine Atco replacements at around £0 quid OK?@@themowerman
Hi mate, I've just bought a similar mower to this the atco windsor 12s and I went to sharpen the blades and i noticed the cylinder left side bearing housing (not the drive side) was moving up and down a bit. Is that normal by any chance or is it meant to not move at all? Ive took it apart & had a look at it and i don't think it's the bearing , I'm thinking it could be axel/spindle that's bent? Or its meant to move? Your advise would be much appreciated. Thanks

Great video mick really handy info for the future, my cylinder cassette is also a pain to get in and out but my scarifier cartridge slides in and out like a dream, do you know how to rectify it or why that could be ?
If you overtighten the two bolts that holds the cylinder in it can draw the sides in where the nut is welded making it tight to get the cylinder in and out. I made the mistake of doing this. I had to buy a used deck.
Mine was tight so I loosened all the screws/ bolts on the pulley side, sat the other side on the bench and tapped it with a hammer. Or you could use a long clamp.
