One of the most satisfying things about coming back to RCT as an adult whereas a kid I could really only pass Forest Frontiers and then never really finished or beat any other park, messed around in Arid Heights because no money but still would fail. Coming back now and even though i haven't gone fully into custom rides (those prebuilts are SO solid)
Great. Now my interest in speed running has doubled my interest in this game and watching you play it. Gosh, i can't wait to follow until the sub-30 saga
There's just something oddly impressive, chaotic and amusing watching someone speedrun a game where usually the things you do in it take a lot of time to figure out. Amazing.
I was thinking how RCT is unspeedrunnable because it involves having to wait a fixed time for scenarios, though I guess this is an advantage to OpenRCT2 Also thinking about how guests will willingly show up to a park that literally just has like 20 copies of the exact same coaster that's just a half corkscrew
People do speedrun RCT1 and 2 vanilla as well, but ignore the deadline. On scenarios with a deadline the run is finished whenever you meet the goal requirements, even if you don't actually beat the scenario in the game.
Imagine the developers: After X long years it's finished. We designed and programmed dozens of coasters with thousands of elements. It would take months to complete a playthrough. Marcel: I'm just going to win in an hour by spamming a coaster that doesn't even make a hill and slides back
Very cool! You should consider applying for Games Done Quick! I bet it would be super cool to see you do a run there and you could grow your channel massively, as well :) I bet they would love a RollerCoaster Tycoon speedrun, as well.
While I enjoy how you're always able to cram a lot of information into very short videos, almost a full hour is very welcome too! Also I'm a bit confused about the stipulation, you mentioned no pre-built designs could be used, but in Electric Fields you used the Mango Muncher prefab design. Either way, still an amazing time and a fun watch. Thanks!
No custom pre-built rides aside from the ones he creates and saves during the speed run, official pre-built rides that are included in the base game/expansion packs are fine to use
Hey Marcel! This is AMAZING. Would you mind explaining why it is that you pause the game to renew your advertisements? Wouldn't it be faster to let guests into the park in that time?
On many scenarios you actually lose guests without the ads running, and if you leave it running while you're doing the ads they also get out of synch, which is annoying and might screw things up. There are definitely scenarios where it's not necessary though, but right now I'm taking the blanket approach of always pausing.
Seeing how a lot of these scenarios are simply accomplished by copy-pasting roller coasters, which I have no issue with, I think it would be cool for Open RCT2 to implement a couple of difficulty switches to encourage more natural and experienced play for speedruns like this. Maybe stuff like hardcore mode, which prevents the usage of pre-fabs, environmental mode, which disables the removal of trees and the editing of land (or disables the editing of anything in the park as it is when the game is started), and a scenery randomizer switch to go along with that, to make it so you can't just have a pre-set coaster in mind when trying to build around trees in a level. Obviously a no-loan mode could also be accounted for. Just some ideas!
I love this! Any chance you'd be interested in doing another speedrun with no rules? Think not just all prebuilts, but also key and mouse loggers being played back at 1000% speed, etc. Would be fun to see the absolute limit of how fast this could be done without the limitations of being merely human. This would be similar to the "any %" category in the wider speedrunning community .
Ah, yes, that is the better category name - but it definitely is a category people do! I know Marcel has also mentioned using computer tools to make some of his more creative rides so it seems like this would be right in his wheelhouse.
i feel like being able to set up prebuilds could either make this interesting by allowing some weird strats with huge coasters or something. or it could make it suck hard by just making it all copy+paste
Heya, I noticed something that can help you shave off a few seconds of time. (nonmistake related) When doing your naming of your pre-fabs, Use the "Home" key on your keyboard; it will jump the typing cursor to the front of the text so you can quickly put it "0"

Hey Marcel, you should use keyboard shortcuts for building paths and coaster tracks. (ie. the numpad) I think this would save you quite a bit of time overall.
In the version I use there is no shortcut for building path. For building coasters it probably wouldn't save much time as I only build a few designs and more of them only have a few track pieces.
Are you still doing the livestream saturday the 20th? And how will it differ from this? Will it be realtime instead of speedup and no waiting for deadlines?

Maybe that's not actually optimal cause presumably more paths means more guests wandering around for longer?
Having paths on all sides makes placing the coasters down easier and mistakes don't cause as many issues. It's probably a little bit slower but also more reliable, and for long speedruns reliability is very useful.
So you are playing on a modified version but resources like ticket prices calculator is forbidden? What about notes, are they forbidden too? Not trying to be mean just curious because I find the rules quite arbitrary, but maybe i misunderstood them. Great video as always!

I just started the video and i have a question: why mango muncher on level 2 and not the tiny build from the first level? Also: Why dont you open the parks in levels without a tight time limit from the beginning+speeding up a bit, so guests can already trickle in? From SC2 I know that you can reduce the delay the keyboard needs to hit fast, when you hold a key. Might safe you about 0.5 seconds every time you have to set a price for a ride ;-)
He builds the paths so that the full circles can be placed anywhere and there's no messing up because you forgot which way something was facing in which scenario. It's not about a couple seconds here/there, it's about an overall run
@@Easelgames Well, I would argue that in a speed run, yes, the few seconds here or there could someday make the difference. :) Not now, of course. But If he (or anyone else) thinks about further improving the individual or over all records, it's time saves like these that will eventually decide who comes out on top. This is especially true in these two scenarios, since he has a clear path for both of them: Place X number of the same build right next to each other, either directly behind each other or rotated next to an existing path. Leaving the back bath out of the build schematic would not lead to more mistakes. He would save time by a) not having to build the path first and not having to include it in the build schematic, and b) by potentially making fewer misplacements, because it get's a little less finnicky.
