I actually had a weird experience with this recently, I drove the newest car I've even driven recently, and something about how it's automatic transmission was set up meant that going down hill, it basicially always kept speeding up, there was no engine braking whatsoever in Drive without using manual mode to shift down a gear or two, it was really annoying, but I've found that a lot of people have no idea that you can even shift manually/hold gears in most automatics cars in one way or another, and thus they just always use the brakes to not speed up or go too fast down a hill.
I understood the yellow line thing when I was 4, I was thinking: “hm, it looks like we are driving over the yellow line but we don’t crash, so we don‘t drive over the yellow line“. Imagine being worse at basic thinking than some random 4 year old kid
same thing with me i would watch my parents drive when i was 5 and i already understood, my friends are like this too in racing games. Their explanation on why they don't use first person mode in games is because of that 💀
@@DingoXBX to be fair, driving in first person mode sucks ass unless you're on a Wheel and Pedal or on a simulator. Third person is better when using controller.
@@evolad2463 You didn't get the point, did you? I am trying to say that every 4 or 5 year old with a basic understanding of simple geometry knows, that just because something looks a surrten way, it doesn't always mean that it is actually that way bruh

The part about braking is on point. Working at a go kart track for 4 years, I learned to drive with my eyes. Meaning, I'm looking at what's going on in front of the driver in front of me first. Then, the driver's momentum or cars behavior. This is why i don't always brake when i see brake lights. Because there's a lot of times people will brake just to brake, without actually slowing down.
I realized the other day that my dad brakes with his left foot, and thus he leaves it on the brake pedal all the time, and occasionally he'll be accelerating with the brakes slightly pressed, making the brake lights come on as he speeds up. And of course, a lot of people who have never driven a manual, will do left foot braking all the time, and it's quite annoying to see, but yeah just like you say, because of bs like that you end up driving with your eyes, actually paying attention to a cars behavior on the road more than their random slight brake taps.
My mom taught me a simple rule when I was learning to drive - drive as if the vehicle in front of you might hard brake at any moment because they truly might. Basically, expect the drivers around you to do the stupidest manuvers possible and give them space to do it away from you.
Interior with food everywhere, but babied throttle and turn radius out of the paranoid delusion that having the throttle open more than 80% for 3 milliseconds will cause everyone in 5 miles to explode?
I agree some people don't understand the concept of engine breaking. Especially on motorcycles where the effect is multiple times harder because of the low weight, I regularly have cars almost crashing into my rear just because I released the throttle a bit. My 800ccm V4 engine breaks so hard I technically don't have to break at red lights, I would just need to downshift all the way to first gear but because of cars behind me I always lightly tap my break to trigger the light.
I'd say it's more about not keeping a proper distance. I didn't know that motorcycles slow down faster, but then again I rarely see any bikes around where I live, but I generally assume they're more dangerous (by not behaving like a 4-wheel would and general approach that driver is a "soon-to-kidney-donating idiot") and I keep larger gap between me and a bike. Since you drive on a bike, you're in higher risk being hurt, so I wish you safe travels and trust no one on roads.
Engine braking shouldn't be used in the city tbh, the mental effort of judging distance from the car in front of you really adds up over a long commute in city traffic. Much better to just use your brakes lightly, the brake light keeps everyone well-informed and safe. Just cause someone CAN do something doesn't mean they necessarily want to or should. For example, I CAN manually shift between gears to maximize fuel economy on commutes, but I'd much rather just drive on auto rather than putting in the effort to save a couple dollars in fuel and wear after a long day of work.
I’m a new driver and these videos really help me out on what to look out for on the road. It’s cool to have someone with a personality explain these things
That's too mind-blowing of a concept for backseat drivers in my comments to grasp. I had to double go pro my Mustang just to REALLY illustrate their lack of physics understanding.
@@BladedAngel They would probably think that if your eye level is low enough it would look like your flying in the sky because all they could see is the edge of the car and the sky hahaha. Or if they held a spoon close to their eye while looking at a building they would think the spoon is bigger than the building . Perspective is key. This also leads to your point about tall cars assuming your tailgating because they can see you in their rear view mirror. When in reality it you where tailgating they wouldn't be able to see you at all haha.
I was almost in a headon collision due to someone crossing a mustard line( well double white here in Sweden) because somebody wanted to pass a tractor in a blind turn. Said car also carried a caravan.
I know that scenario so well happens all the time in the german countryside. Be it a cyclist, slow driver, slow vehicle, all drivers that are behind those seam to think is "Gotta overtake at any cost)
@ Fluffy Bro that applies to most AU capital cities. Melbourne (where I live) used to be known as the road rage capital of Australia. When you see the way some people drive, it's no bloody wonder...
@@bury_the_elite65294 people in Darwin a bad drivers too. They weave inbetween gaps that are completely unsafe just so they can get ahead of one car. Impatient drivers go onto the island that already has a car and blocks the view of every other driver.
7:40 - engine braking - I spent about a year with my first EV not realizing that regenerative braking did actually activate the brake light. I was constantly concerned that people tailgating me would hit me if I just needed to make a small speed adjustment that could use regenerative braking. Turns out I just looked like a psycho with brake lights flashing on the highway as I let regen braking do more stopping than I otherwise would have.
I actually hated how strong the engine break was on the tesla I drove for a week. Made slowing down for red lights way more of a hassle then is usually is
@@Ryleeman54number2 It's extremely easy to do if you're used to it and actually takes significantly less effort than standard braking since you're just lifting your foot, but it's a major change from normal and requires a couple hours of driving to get the feel for. At least that is the case for me, took about 2 hours of driving and then I was able to accurately predict how quickly to lift my foot to stop at the line. Now I don't even consciously think about it, I just see the stop sign and my foot does the rest.
@@electrified0 you haven't lived until you've been in stop and go traffic in an ev. Did your Tesla Regen brake to a complete stop? I know they didn't always do it.
Thanks for bringing up semi trucks. If I could add one, it would be: Don’t brake suddenly, ease your way to a slow and steady brake. Trucks cannot slow down as fast as cars, especially when we are weighing 80,000lb. But it’s not just for trucks sake, it’s so that the people behind you have a fair amount of time to brake also. Yes, this means keeping a proper distance from the car In front of you. Crazy right? I mean, it’s not like it’s the ONLY reason why anyone gets rear ended
@@nickowen7406 exactly. The biggest reason for accidents is rear end collisions due to being too close to the car in front. Many people still believe in the two car rule, even on highways, giving the driver only 500-1000ms to react if something happens. 3 Second Rule gives the driver plenty of time because it scales with speed.
I had a coworker who was giving me rides say she couldn’t tell if the cars in front of us were braking….. before I know it I caught myself blabbing out “ you can’t see the rear of the cars getting bigger and closer to us smh” she just remained silent after that
Fear of body roll is something I never understood, first thing I did with my car was trying how much it rolls on empty roads etc. Like, body roll and hard breaks are the basic things to do to avoid panic once you enter actually dangerous situation.
I've unfortunately had to play the "my car is cheaper than your car" game once during a forced merge. The person behind me in the lane I had to merge into kept speeding up to try and shut me out despite the fact that I had nowhere else to go. They drove most of the way off the road before they gave up. All to save a second or two, if that.
I was in a parking place, slowed down my car going to a intersection, since I couldn't see the upcoming cars from left and right and then comes a reckless driver from the right in the intersection in high speed without stopping or looking left or right and hits straight up against my car and I ended up paying for the repairs, just because she had the right of way,no matter the situation or how shitty she was driving. That situation was absolutely unavoidable on my part, despite having slowed down and being careful. Also the one who hits a car from behind, will always be the one at fault, even if you get breakchecked. In my country dashcams are illegal too, and can't be used as proof
I just don't get why dashcams would be illegal, or worse when you're allowed to have them but they aren't valid in court. Just get with the times. Sweden allows dashcams, just not when you're not present at the car (since public surveillance is illegal, but you're allowed to record with a camera). So dashcam can be used as proof. I think this is a better compromise.
Here are some things I would like to drop from my experiences driving in Dallas that really grind my gears: 1. Some drivers would rather pick near-death experience than miss their turn/exit. Seriously, how hard is to take few seconds to plan and prepare your route? 2. People who randomly steps on brake for no reason. Either they're too anxious, under the influence, distracted, or lost. To fix that, y'all need to get familiar with the road, never drive impaired, and plan your routes 3. Those on their phones while driving. Pretty self explainatory, it's more dangerous than drunk driving. Yeah, how would you like if I shove your phone up your ass for a full immersive mobile experience? 4. Going too damn slow on the highway. Like 20 below the speed limit of the highway. That'll make people to slam their brake and possibly ending in a crash. This'll also create phantom traffic jams behind as people will start brake chains. Too damn slow is just as dumb as too fast. If you cannot catch up with the speed of the highway, stay on surface streets. 5. Not turning on your headlight or having high beams on all the time. I mean most cars have dashboard telling you on these. And you can easily confirm this visually. So I don't get how people are so careless. When you tried to let them know with headlight signal (off and on quickly), they don't get it. These are what I experienced the most in Dallas. Stay safe y'all!
I had a black pickup truck pass me when it was nearing pitch black outside. Blew my airhorn and flashed him like six times. He figured it out and thanked me with his hazards.
I used to have pretty bad road rage with headlights. I drive a small hatchback, so idiots in massive SUV's slap on LED lights and then run them on high beam. It blinds me and most of them don't care if they are being an annoyance. Some of them will purposely keep em up, so that smaller cars let them pass to avoid getting blinded I'm learning to calm myself down on such occasions
#9 is my bane. At this point i actively avoid being the passenger to anyone under the age of 27, and driving any remotely "sporty" or modified vehicle. Also, you should have a #11 for people who drive 10 under the speed limit for 30 minutes in the left most lane and actively try to match the speed of the person to the right so that nobody from behind can get past them.
People driving sporty cars aren't necessarily bad drivers. But people driving just beaters - definitely are. Being a good driver is about being able to recover if shit goes south. And the only way to get this skill is by driving too sketchy for comfort. Someone who owns a shitty old car not gonna take it to the track to develop any kind of actual driving skills. If someone takes their sporty car to the track every once in a while, is a more reliably safer driver than an average joe.
@@michaelbuckersI used to take my shitty old beater to the track. I take my current much sportier car to the track, and did the same with every car in between, but less often with each car. Brakes and tyres are a lot more painful to replace now! (though the main reason for decreasing frequency is I'm older, have kids and so have less free time).
5:29 I love that he specifically calls out Camrys for being able to withstand body roll. I drive the 2001 Camry LE, and nothing makes me happier than the feel of the G's in a perfectly timed 30mph square turn and riding staying within my lane in my morning commute.
Lol I learned pretty quick about being visible in a parking space with my tiny car. It was more for me not to lose my car in the parking lot but realized that it also serves a safety purpose
I am guilty of treating some roads where I live as race tracks, unintentionally. I am actively holding myself from trying to get extra angle at some of the turns as I really like driving and especially the whole concept of racing (no running over white double-crossed lanes of course). However I never attempt doing this in roads I don't know about, especially the blind turns... I think this kicks in naturally for me. I am never a fast driver and know how much my father's Aegea worths for him and my family.
I just like to smooth out my turns as much as possible, so not necessarily going fast, but using the available lane space to make turns easier, which ends up being faster because I just don't have to brake as hard as other people
I feel like I drive like an asshole because I'm impatient. But I feel like I do a good job at not doing any of these. Especially the first one, my impatients has lead to me discovering the art of NOT lane hopping, and still being significantly faster than 80% of drivers☠️it makes driving more fun, making a game our of the idiot drivers who end up going slower even though they're "driving faster" I speed and weave sometimes too of course but I'm never doing it cause I'm in a rush. Being in a rush leads to accidents. The way I see it, if you're going to be dumb, do it, go have fun, but YOU are the only person you're allowed to put in harm's way
I learned to do this in my 10 years of pizza delivery. It got to the point where I could call what people were going to do before they did it, just by noticing very subtle movements of their cars. I would choose my lanes carefully and blow by so much traffic without looking like a street racer. My boss wondered how I was so fast even though I didn't really speed lol
I’m not going too say I’m a good driver I think everyone makes mistakes here and there but if you are someone that dose any of these things in this video you are a bad driver hands down
Wait, so you understand that you hop and weave not because you're in a rush, yet assume that everyone else doing it is an impatient idiot trying to get to their destination faster? Talk about a fucking irony! 🤡
Wow. With every new episode in this series, I realise US drivers are just bad. A lot of stuff in this and the previous just doesn't apply here in Europe, and I'm not even talking about just Germany with their good lane dicipline
In America basically anyone slightly smarter then being retarted can get a license when I say slightly smarter I mean you can barely tell the difference like really slightly
As an American who spends plenty of time on the road, we are indeed shitty drivers. Too many close calls and too much antics. I especially hate it when people try to overtake when I am going 5-10 over.
It does happen in Europe, but not often. The driving discipline is much better in Europe, but you do still have some bad drivers. I do try to drive my best, and most people drive respectfully. But you do have those few moments you see one of these jerks.
@@Liggliluff I've been driving here for some time now, and never seen people use their cars to block others, use bus/bike lanes, not knowing/ignoring what engine braking is, and haven't ever heard of anyone going faster then like 20-30kmh (12-20mph) in parking lots, outside of fucking around with friends. Are there bad drivers here? Certainly. Are there good drivers in the US? Also certainly. But so far everywhere I seen, the US has a larger proportion of bad drivers
Guys, be eternally thankful you don't live here in Australia - we have some of the shittiest drivers out there. They really don't have a f_king clue AT ALL. No BS - some of them would look totally at home in Russia or India.
As a semi truck driver, I have seen so many bad drivers that I have lost count. Even on the interstate out in the middle of nowhere, people still think it's a great idea to pass a truck only to immediately merge in front of them and slow down, not realizing how heavy a fully loaded semi can weigh and low long it takes to stop, in addition to other bone head maneuvers
I have to argue against #1 to a point mainly because I do go in and out of lanes but I end up passing 3-7 cars because they decided to slow down. I completely agree with #4 I believe or stopping the car. I'm with you people shouldn't speed in a car they don't maintain or inspect you should always know the condition of your car so you can drive effectively.
The first one I see on a daily while driving to and from work and have been guilty of it a few time them felt stupid for it. Being in the metro Atlanta area you realized people can't drive here and are just inconsiderate drivers. Clogged up traffic by spreading to every lane without changing speed just so they can be the first at the light to drive under the speed or just not behind someone they are driving same speed as.
Lmao, I just crashed a couple hours ago🤣 Story: so I was late to work and the route I take is some backroads in the mountains (I live in Puerto rico) my dumbass was overtaking other cars, until there was one that did not want to let me pass when I was going yo over take him. So what happened was when I was going to overtake a corolla, he purposely went to the middle of the road and my dumbass still went to pass him but apparently (I didn't know) he stomped on the "gas" yo not let me pass so we were neck and neck. Then a service truck was going about 40 or more mph on a downhill so I wanted to change lanes but the corolla was next to me so I stomped on the brakes (going about 50-60mph) in a car without abs, anti lock, traction control (2002 eclipse) and I just kept going forward until I hit the truck... My 3g eclipse is now totaled, my back hurts so much I barely can walk. This is completely my fault, and I also told the police the whole thing was my fault.
@@braziliansheetbox2497 everyone there told me the corolla was to blame but in the end I was overtaking so I guess if you play stupid games you get stupid prices

I swear, younger kids in highschool that just got their first car and are into cars and racing because of tiktok need to watch videos like this. A friend of mine got hit last week and his ND2 mx5 got totalled because some kid who thought he was Takumi Fujiwara in his early 2000 civic was "drifting" a snake road late at night and lost control and went straight into the other lane. The kid was 17 and already totalled 2 cars.
If you can't drive you technically have a clean driving record, and you've never sped, even 1mph over the limit...... So i guess depending on how you look at it, you'd be a better driver than everyone that can drive.
Thank you soo much for mentioning the types of drivers who cut into transit or cycle lanes, I don’t like cars but it’s nice to see a car enthusiast who agrees that there’s too many bad/entitled drivers out there.
6:36 I was always worried about this happening back when my mom had a Chevy Spark. It would always be hidden in the space between other much bigger cars, and we'd always see people who try to pull into the space and realize "oh s**t, there's a car there." Luckily nobody yeeted into it but I was always worried about that happening.
#9! I can relate to #9 so damn much!! I have a friend who drives a Yaris and the dude literally NEVER drives without having at least one hand GLUED to an iPhone. And you can very obviously see that it was affecting his driving, whether that’s delayed reaction times or drifting into other lanes during bends. He deadass told me that he’d be even worse had he not used his phone as a fidgeting device. The worst part? His car not only had a phone mount, IT ALSO HAD CARPLAY. I’m driving myself from now on. I may have some rough edges to polish in my driving, but I sure as hell keep both hands on the wheel and keep my phone away or on a proper phone mount for directions…
That sounds exciting. The first car is always special whatever it is. However be prepared to pay too much, have it turn out in worse shape then you thought. What car do you have in mind?

The blind turns I usually take on my way home from work I often pass the speed limit to get to home quickly that the realization from all that down force for going fast that I learned how scary it is plus after many incidents that took in the same turn made me think clearly on driving safely
My gf has made the good observation about me getting irritated at people being bad drivers, it’s bc they don’t like driving so they just don’t care. We love driving so it’s like a dance it’s scared and amazing to us but to most people they just see it as a way to get places so they don’t care about anyone else on the road or following the proper etiquettes. They same way we wouldn’t care as much if we didn’t like driving.
Small note on #2 Many places in Europe the tram tracks are actually part of the road and drivers are allowed to use them. Countries such as Hungary and Romania that is an everyday thing especially in bigger cities.
One thing that pisses me off are people who fly over speedbumps at 50 km/h, and then expect me to do the same when I'm in front of them. They can wreck their suspensions all they want, but I'm crossing speedbumps at 25 to preserve mine.
(4:40) Calling it "crossing mustard" is a very American phrase xD Because most of the world doesn't have yellow middle lines. I do give you that a yellow middle line is a great design, and something USA does right. It's most absolutely necessary and most of the world does fine. But if we're were to have global traffic standards, I could see having a yellow middle line be beneficial.
the parking further back in your parking space to be visible is something i learned as a motorcycle rider. honestly most bikers are probably better drivers than non bikers because we are foced to be more cautious on our bike and it just becomes second nature
1) doing so generally reduces my commute by half, and you have to constantly be dodging people turning left and parked cars, otherwise you will sit through a light 5 or 6 times
Also, if you’re on a 2 lane rural road that might be a bit narrow and there’s an oncoming car, give them some space so that they don’t have to drive partially off the road to get by you.
1:54 The photo is from Russia and here we actually have to use tram lanes to turn left on some intercections. Not always, in my city there are a few intersections where two lanes turn left, one on the tram lane and other on just a road
In order to counter incoming bad drivers crossing yellow lines, you should hunk before each blind curve as a precaution. Or, you can briefly cross the yellow lines just right before the blind right-hand curve in order to scare that car to back away from crossing the yellow lines.
That's me at 5:00 and my friend Jack's CRX. We (and a few other friends) were on the cherohala skyway on the way to the tail of the dragon and I ran over some wet grass and mud and lost traction, ended up grinding the side of the mountain until I nosedived, surprisingly gently, into that safety pull off. This didn't even remotely happen from lane crossing (not that that was the implication), just some unfortunate circumstances BUT still cool I made it in, and wrecked BMW's are always perfect for bad driver videos. Cheers!
6:55 This is something I've never understood. It makes no sense to search for a closer parking spot in the Walmart lot for 15 minutes to save yourself 200 extra steps when you're about to go inside and walk, often times, over a mile. My mom always did this when I was a kid, and it always confused me. Now, anytime I'm driving with her, I park literally as far away as I possibly can like the little pick I am lol
In trucks that are newer there is a system that engages the brake lights when the engine brake is activated. As well as on buses equipped with an Exhaust Brake it is supposed to activate the brake lights indicating they are slowing down because it’s fully capable of bringing the vehicle to a complete stop with minimal actual braking
Since getting my CDL, I’ve gotten way better at driving. I highly recommend everyone be trained in the SMITH system because it works! It makes you a much safer and efficient driver. It saves me gas mileage too!
Absolutely, but not often switching. For example: I known a place where the left and middle lane are going together. The right remains. All „fast drivers“ go left. Thinking they can sprint in front of all. But when you not too early, not too late, change to the right lane, you can see them overtaking you. But when it comes to the specific point, it Stopps and you overtake 20-40 cars. But after this, when cars are accelerating and getting more space between them, it is time to wait for a big gap and change to the left.
my mom always says "where am I supposed to go?" so i say "read the signs" and i just learned that she "never reads the signs" so i say "follow the lines" and she don't do that either
I actually have some experience with the "yeeting" cars into parking spots. I parked my Miata in a target and some bozo in a lifted truck pulled into the parking spot behind mine, but pulled so far forward his front bumper was over my trunk
The funniest and perhaps saddest part of this video is the a-pillar lane thing because its not a driving technique, not somthing you need taught, it is literally just basic depth of field and object permanence.
Man ,one of my Friends left the shop with brand new tires fitted and got a ticket for worn tires an hour later. Just an anecdote of the shitty police in my country.
I had a defect in my steering causing excessive tire wear, I had the police pull me over and they didnt even bat an eye on my worn old rustbucket just wanted a drug test. Cops have never been rude but I sometimes do question thier competence.
I love messing with the first guys, I’ll speed up get my rear bumper even with the front of the car next to me and watch them get behind me then i coast till the car next to me starts gaining and the guy behind me switches again, rinse and repeat for the next 10 min and they don’t even get mad or even notice what I’m doing they just mindlessly switch lanes
I trust this man because I learned to drive in Atlanta and there are parts of the city the genuinely scare me, even in the metro areas, not naming any names (DeKalb, Gwinnett, Fulton, Henry and Clayton county)
It’s not exactly related to the video directly but you talking about not going faster than your car can stop made me think about it. I work in a garage and there’s this thing that I’ve noticed. Almost every single time someone comes in with an Instagram handle plastered on their car they have stock brakes and no name brand tyres. They often want to brag about power with putting in the effort needed to control it. Never upgrade your engine until you have dealt with brakes and tyres MINIMUM. Power should always be your last mod. get your platform ready by doing brakes, suspension, tyres, bracing and taking care of any other weak points in your platform. Then you can safely increase power incrementally until your power is at the ideal level for your platform to use effectively at your own skill level. Ask anyone experienced and they will tell you, If you do power first then you will crash because A. You aren’t experienced enough to know that it’s a bad idea. B. Your car will not be able to stop.
there is no modification more effective then good tires in my opinion. Better stopping, better acelerating, better cornering. Few things you can change on a car do all those 3 things and all of those very effectively.
@@leogreck9984 Absolutely, I completely agree, people seem to forget that tyres are the only thing that actually connect the car to the road. Strange that people neglect them…
Lmao I used to be a lot worse at driving, making incomplete stops at stop signs, going 35-40 in residentials, not slowing down at speed bumps, doing high speed turns, etc. After I started a job where I have to drive a work van I abandoned all that reckless shit and now I’ve gotten a lot better.
At 1:51 I’m pretty sure that is a tram line, which from my understanding of the trams in Melbourne, you are allowed in the tram lane if you need to avoid an obstacle or your trying to turn right but only for 50 meters
One of the mods I wanna do on my car is: make the braking and turn signal lights twice or three times brighter. They should come like that from the factory. They should be annoying and jarring so that they do what they were designed to do: catch the other driver's attention. Cars nowadays have those ridiculous lines along their head and taillights that somehow pass certification as turn signal or brake lights
Well the thing about most tail lights is they're designed to indicate both where your vehicle is in low-light conditions and whether you're actively braking or not. It's not so much the need to have them brighter (because that can actually be more dangerous than the OEM lights) so much as the need to have them be slightly bigger from factory to more clearly indicate what you're doing.
I definitely agree that indicator lights need to be brighter. I pass all vision tests needed to get and maintain a license and even then, on a particularly bright day the indicators can be so washed out that situations like roundabouts become challenging because you cannot tell who is going where until they're practically in your face. I just give way to all vehicles coming from my right (Aussie road rules, idk if countries that drive on the other side flip this) even if they're going straight because it's so hard to tell until they've pretty much passed me. Really annoying because it slows me down and I don't want to hold up traffic.
the crossing mustard hit hard since I recently lost a dear friend this exact way, it sucks to loose someone especially when it's most often perfectly avoidable.
I like to do the logical opposite of engine braking, which is just to straight shift into neutral and let the normal friction slow the car down, which conveniently also tends to save gas
bro i have a friend from high school days that drives to the beats of songs in his car the experience was terrifying which made me stop carpooling with him
2 things that are so annoying that I see every single day: when people change lanes AND THEN signal when they’re halfway over. Just don’t even signal at that point you’re already in the other lane! Also when people step on the brakes 12 times in 10 seconds especially when nobody’s in front of them. If you drive properly, your engine will slow you down as much as you feasibly need to. No need wear your brakes out by turning your brake lights into a strobe light.
You see, if people cant tell your car is decelerating on engine braking, you simply need a louder exhaust and a popcorn tune. Unironically though if you barely touch your brake pedal while downshifting, it wont actually use your brake pads but the lights will still come on, although it does require you to know how to heel-toe.
Even some "experienced" drivers don't understand engine braking. Whenever I start slowing down early before a redlight they attempt to undertake, they honk and they tailgate because they need to stop at the redlight as soon as possible.
hate when drivers brake when going slight downhill when wide space infront of them
semis, it makes sense, but normal cars don't need to slam brakes on the slightest grade.
Not to mention they’re just faded their brake pads even more, gliding on the brake and sh*t
I actually had a weird experience with this recently, I drove the newest car I've even driven recently, and something about how it's automatic transmission was set up meant that going down hill, it basicially always kept speeding up, there was no engine braking whatsoever in Drive without using manual mode to shift down a gear or two, it was really annoying, but I've found that a lot of people have no idea that you can even shift manually/hold gears in most automatics cars in one way or another, and thus they just always use the brakes to not speed up or go too fast down a hill.
this is only acceptable behavior if there is a cop. Some cops get bored and will ticket people going downhill.
i always find those numbnuts with their foot on the brake on a downhill, also turning left where there’s no left turn with one exception.
I understood the yellow line thing when I was 4, I was thinking: “hm, it looks like we are driving over the yellow line but we don’t crash, so we don‘t drive over the yellow line“. Imagine being worse at basic thinking than some random 4 year old kid

I can't do that when I'm tailing the idiot in front so I have to brake in case only to find out there's nobody in front.
@@Maximum_777 left foot Braking works for performance driving and drifting. But I can't do it for shit in a normal driving lol

Since you drive on a bike, you're in higher risk being hurt, so I wish you safe travels and trust no one on roads.
dumbass auto drivers do that
Engine braking shouldn't be used in the city tbh, the mental effort of judging distance from the car in front of you really adds up over a long commute in city traffic.
I agree that some people can’t tell the difference between braking & breaking.

@@BladedAngel They would probably think that if your eye level is low enough it would look like your flying in the sky because all they could see is the edge of the car and the sky hahaha. Thanks for bringing up semi trucks. If I could add one, it would be:
Don’t brake suddenly, ease your way to a slow and steady brake.
Number one, following the two car length rule instead of the three second rule.
Agree with this one, since I'm not the best of drivers out there so I tend to give some space to when I'm braking
the 3 second rule provides more space between cars though
@@nickowen7406 exactly. The biggest reason for accidents is rear end collisions due to being too close to the car in front. Many people still believe in the two car rule, even on highways, giving the driver only 500-1000ms to react if something happens. 3 Second Rule gives the driver plenty of time because it scales with speed.

You're a bad driver if you decide to start driving faster simply because some car is trying to pass you, get over it you're driving slow.
Not always some people are just impatient. Some people would pass someone even if the person was driving 500 mph.

Here are some things I would like to drop from my experiences driving in Dallas that really grind my gears:
1. Some drivers would rather pick near-death experience than miss their turn/exit. Seriously, how hard is to take few seconds to plan and prepare your route?
2. People who randomly steps on brake for no reason. Either they're too anxious, under the influence, distracted, or lost. To fix that, y'all need to get familiar with the road, never drive impaired, and plan your routes
Some of them will purposely keep em up, so that smaller cars let them pass to avoid getting blinded
I'm learning to calm myself down on such occasions

#9 is my bane. At this point i actively avoid being the passenger to anyone under the age of 27, and driving any remotely "sporty" or modified vehicle. Also, you should have a #11 for people who drive 10 under the speed limit for 30 minutes in the left most lane and actively try to match the speed of the person to the right so that nobody from behind can get past them.
People driving sporty cars aren't necessarily bad drivers. But people driving just beaters - definitely are.
Being a good driver is about being able to recover if shit goes south. And the only way to get this skill is by driving too sketchy for comfort.

Because most of the world doesn't have yellow middle lines.
Engine braking prohibited?? Tf is this sign
It's for semis when they go through residential zones. The noise tends to break city bylaws.
@@joshdemon15 oh okay then it's understandable.. Imagine cars weren't allowed, they just have to press the clutch in and use the breaks
That's a real high IQ description there, mr Bladed Angel
These are some of the best, most cathartic videos on the entire internet! I hope you and your family receive everything in life!!!
This video screams "BIG ALTIMA ENERGY"
In trucks that are newer there is a system that engages the brake lights when the engine brake is activated. As well as on buses equipped with an Exhaust Brake it is supposed to activate the brake lights indicating they are slowing down because it’s fully capable of bringing the vehicle to a complete stop with minimal actual braking
Gunning it literally 15 seconds after starting... And I mean full fucking throttle.
Since getting my CDL, I’ve gotten way better at driving. I highly recommend everyone be trained in the SMITH system because it works! It makes you a much safer and efficient driver. It saves me gas mileage too!
Lane switching can work. But only when you learn the traffic patterns on a route you use regularly.
Oh, yeah. Those guys with massive lifted trucks have absolutely no concept of respect or attentiveness for others
Cops have never been rude but I sometimes do question thier competence.
as a truck driver and a car guy thank you for making this video 👍👍👍
OK
The yellow line vision from the driver's seat is so true, and that's the reason I use first person cam on driving games, to get that feel yk
That Gran Turismo music always goes hard, that sax is 👌
The ones who dont use lights/headlights during heavy rain........
7:18 the only reason engine braking is prohibited in cities is cause of the noise from a Jake brake lol so your gasser can do it regardless
Personal opinion: people should have to take a basic physics class (kinematics and the like) and pass it before getting a drivers licence.
WHEN PEOPLE RIDE THEIR BREAKS!
Strange that people neglect them…
As a Military Vic driver it is the funnest thing to put my vic on cruise control on the highway and pass the #1 types of drivers
Damn my man going straight for the sequel, **Oversea Girlfriend**
I like to do the logical opposite of engine braking, which is just to straight shift into neutral and let the normal friction slow the car down, which conveniently also tends to save gas
bro i have a friend from high school days that drives to the beats of songs in his car
the experience was terrifying which made me stop carpooling with him
2 things that are so annoying that I see every single day: when people change lanes AND THEN signal when they’re halfway over.
