It may not be powerful but it would be super cool to see it running around all original
i think there still may be Clifford performance parts for it, tho the Big Six family would be a ton easier to get intake manifolds for. still, the exhaust is probably shot so upgrades would be good enough.
I had a 79 hatchback with a 5.0 in the late 80s. These videos are bringing back some great memories!! In my mind I'm cruising town with the windows down jamming some Bullet Boys!!
My buddy had a 79 Mercury Capri when we were in High School in the late 80's. LOVED that car
I prefer 4/0 SOS pads for scrubbing rust while saving paint, the built in soap helps break up the junk and theres no bleach like comet. Great project!
Possums eat ticks they're your friend
I had two of these Fox bodies one was a Cobra that I bought in San Jose. I just sold the Cobra until last year...these are great cars! I took both down to Tiajuana and had custom leather interior done. The Cobra needed a new top and they did a,great job on them both...great prices too! That was 1992. Great video!
Love this project, I think it's going to turn out super cool. Great job Craig. 👍👍👍👍👍👍
My mom had the same only in burnt Orange. You may want to look at the door hinges (both), the heater core, and all cables to/from starter; all these items eventually failed within the first year and a half of ownership. Recommend pairing it opossum grey top half and black bottom half. Name it “Ozzie” (Over the Hedge, movie).
Vote for name Ozzie!
I recently picked up an 83 gl notch back. It's a 3.8 auto. It had 14 inch steelies on it and had been sitting since the mid 90s. Excited to watch your videos as I work on fixing and cleaning mine. I found a set of the 10 hole rims the day I brought mine home and went and picked them up.
I have ten holes on my 85 GT. Didn’t know they were hard to find. Guess I’ll keep them on it!
Wyatt Huber Wish I still had my 1985 GT 5.0. I bought it brand new and traded it off. I'm such a "genius".
It's been re-sprayed before you could tell because the rubber Hood stops the adjustable rubber Hood stops or silver the rubber stopper was painted and they don't do that from the factory also see a little bit of silver over spray and some other spots it definitely picked a weird tan color if that town was added the car was probably black and silver but I don't know definitely a survivor car and worth putting money into
That old '82 GL cleaned up pretty well. I will be interested in what the future holds for it.
Everyone has 92 Fox body noone has a 82 Fox that thing is clean you should make that your muskel car
Must be the right time for wheel cleaning videos! I put one up a few days ago, then Chrisfix put one up, now you got one up!
The last fox I bought in 2017 for $1400 , I used it as a daily to travel for work while getting per diem mileage. I put enough miles in one summer to pay for the car itself twice. Got a new daily but I’m not scared to take her anywhere. I love driving these things they don’t always work but you can fix them. It’s all about the journey with these
I have many many many hours in cleaning cars one in particular took days of cleaning and detailing but I recently showed it in Carlisle PA Crysler nationals. It looked great and was well worth it.
I'm not much for silver but the dark silver Ford had back in the late 80's-90's was pretty cool. When I was in high school in 89 and 90 my buddy and I painted his 79 Mercury Capri that Dark Silver color in Auto Body class at the Vo-Tech. It was originally a bright red with red interior and the interior was in such good shape he wasn't going to change it so we just went with Dark Silver.
One product I would suggest is spray 9 which we use on scummy boats. It is unbelievable compared to purple.
Not sure what you have planned, but if you still have the original brakes and spindles off your other fox body (if you used SN95 stuff), it's and upgrade for this. Step up from 10" to 11" discs. You'll have to swap struts as well.
Man a true survivor, great video. Thanks 😊
Need a countdown for that next video I'm stoked to see this thing run
Wow that part looks nice. Best part is I love the 200 6 cylinder under the hood.
This needs to be your ride ride for 2023 hot rod power tour. Free possum stang gets the long hualer
Great find……n in great shape too…..my neighbor had one just like it, in the 80’s.
Your mullet 👍🏻 I used to rock 1 in high school… when master of puppets was released n before I became follicley challenged 😊 enjoy it while you can…..
I like your content…..I’ll be stopping by more often…..cause Fords /Fox body….
Bro you gotta hold the pressure washer closer like 3-4 inches away for it to actually be effective. As far as y'all are holding it away you might as well be using a garden hose.
I dig the different colors in the paint and the engine bay is so clean for a 82
In 1986I bought my first car a 1979 mustang. Was it a good car? No, but it was my first car. Thanks for the memories mine was also yellowish. The rubber side door molding held so much dirt and water they fell off from rust and took a foot of door with it. Ahhhh memories🥹
Ok...is Mrs. Opossum now "living in a boat"...or is it like when my cat got run over and mom told me she "ran away"....I always knew what happened, but her trying to save me heartbreak was rather sweet...and she got me a pet skunk...demusked....they make great pets...they use a litter box and eat catfood...and as a bonus she didn't like my brother and she would bite his ankles every time he raised his voice at me...greatest thing EVER! He bitched about her for 40 years, until the day he died...I told him maybe she'd catch up with him in the next world...and bite him...
I turned 16 in 2001 and my first car was a primer gray 1982 Mustang GL just like this one. This has been a fun nostalgia trip.
My favorite version of the fox body style mustang is actually a 79-86 mercury Capri, and the other mustang I like is a sn95 body style 94 -98 Ford mustang.. and I got ahold of a husky mechanic tool set of 149pc off a eBay reseller for about $90 so you could always look into that and who knows you might find a good deal on the husky 194pc mechanic tool set mine is the 149pc seems decent but don't have hardly any 1/2 in Dr deep sockets.
My 83 mercury capri rs has the same TRX rims and tires. The thinking behind them was to be able to run a tire with a higher aspect ratio and still get the performance of a low profile tire! Low profile tires being very pricey at that time, Ford turned to Michelin for some new ideas. Unfortunately the trx tires only had good traction on a 30 degree Celsius day if it was sunny. I still have my original set of tires and rims, although 1 set of tires are worn smooth. The one good thing about to these rims is they are a forged rim, very strong! Cheers.
Cool notch back mustang Craig sir,, and I didn't tell you about the Quinn socket sets because harbor freight didn't have them at the time lol
My brother had a 4 banger auto....we called it putput. It ate piston skirts monthly but the body sticker package was amazing. My sister in law could kill it just sitting in it.
My first car was an 81 3.3 auto hatch with t-tops same color but not 2 toned and the same interior. It's crazy seeing this one turning out so nice.
I used s.o.s steel wool pads to wash a couple of mine inside and out lol
That thing is a time capsule. That interior is freakin MINT!! Did you call Junkyard Digs for Opossum removal tips LOL. Looking forward to what you do with this car.
Considering I daily a 4cly foxbody turd I absolutely love this!!
Man what a find. I'm getting the impression the worst part is just the dye leaching from the car cover. Bet she's gonna be a good runner too. Gutless, but a runner. LOL
it would make a great daily driver.
Little opossum looked like a friend. If you get one when its a baby its like a cat/dog, they are fiendly and funny. They also dont live long though
I had a 1980 Mercury Capri with a 6 cylinder
Notch backs are desirable a quality repaint and highway patrol rims would be a great move !
The Mercury Capri with a 5.0 had those Wheels as well idk if they were 15 and a half but they looked just like the ones on your mustang
I bought my first 5.0 (‘83 GT) in the year 2000. It had the TRX wheels and it was almost impossible to find tires for them THEN lol
I kinda love this car. Perfect candidate for a V8, or even better, a coyote swap.
Love this video series I cant wait to see the next one. I learned to drive with an 82 mustang 4 cyl with the manual 4 speed.
those tires were hard to find when the cars were new, the only two companies that made them were Avon tire and Michelin.
Both Saab and BMW used to offer TRX on some of their models, I had a Bmw 535 M that came with them on.
the TRX rim are 15.2 inches and i have taken mine to a machine shop and had them turned down to 15 there is enough meat on the bead to cut the down
The A/C has to blow cold. I hope you guys got that working. It really sucks the TRX rims don't have tires easily available, they're part of the look of that model. Always loved the early Fox mustang styling with the 4 headlamps as a kid. One of my favorites was the 79-81 Mustang Cobra, it had a fantastic decal package, and blacked out "sport" trim on mirrors and interior, and optional T-tops. They were cool. The next year they just called it GT, and no more snake logos. Those early Fox Cobras all came on those TRX alloy rims. I hope you get a good price, some Cobra guy out there wants those.
Might be sacrilegious but he could rebarrel them with a nice stepped lip... I think they'd look sick.
Discovering😱& Restoring by Bringing A Once Vibrant Performance Running Vehicle🚗To Life Again, Is A Priceless Feeling To Experience. In The Go'n Into & Cum'n Out From, The Big Question Pending, 🗣"Were you able to Relocate The Possum🦡🦡Family To A New Habitat To Live In"? 🤠
A little tip I learned, that purple power you were using on the 10 hole wheels will remove mildew and mold from the paint as well
I live in Maryland and you can get a set of 10 holes for around 2 to 3$ all day long!!!
The metric wheels where used on 79 pace cars they weren't very popular because of odd size and tires were always expensive even when they were new.
Congrats my sister just got a 90 foxbody convertible it's so nice
you should swap a 2.3l turbo motor into it and build it up but keep it looking stock
That would be more trouble than it's worth, have to swap k member to do it.
If I woulda known you were looking for 10 holes I have a full set and also a full set of the 3 spokes from a 79' pace car. I'm about an HR and a half away from your new buddy junkyard digs
Lol it cool to see that the engine still has the part they used to put the motor in at the factory Is still on there great looking car
Nice work Craig, keep it up!
Love the car! It came out really nice after cleaning it up and changing the wheel!
Door tag had 1981 build date, but doesn't mean model year, since new cars come out in fall. Common error, the VIN is what shows model year.
These TRX tyres was an invention of Michelin and was used on saab 900 , citroen, BMW, Ferrari an Ford .... in the 80s is was cheaper to buy a whole New Set with normal rims.... I had a saab with the 180 TRX tyre - very expensive here in Europe
sickkkkl broooo can't wait 2 see this build
Try center caps from 1997-03 Econolines with 15” aluminum wheels.
I personally like the TRX rims better on this car. But it's your ride. Rock and roll.
LMR has the TXR's 16x7. They are awesome
Just an FYI the new bronco sport has a modern version of the 10 hole that's 5 lug but don't know if it's same bolt patter as like an SN95 or anything
Hopefully you fix up the inline. Super cool project 👌
put firestone wide ovals on these black rims or race tires that where on youre truck and lower it
It shall be named the possum fox 😂
That car is really asking for the name the opossum body.
I made that suggestion in the first it definitely should stick now.
I am not really a fan of the hatchback Mustang but I totally adore the notchback Mustang! If I could only find one with t-tops!
Great video. My brother had a 80 Mustang when we were in high school. It was only 6 years old then so yes I’m old. 😂
This brings back a lot of memories. Csnt wait for the next video and to see if you can get it running.
👍👍👍👍👍👍
That was the best time to grow up, I graduated in 90.
Vary awesome indeed. Nice 👍 on getting the mustang gl. Looking sweet indeed. Keep up the great work you guys. Okay.
Come on! You just teasing with the new video man! Lol that’s a good series of videos bud!
Honestly if I was going to motor swap one of those mustangs, my best friend had a 93 Calypso green mustang LX 2.3 8 plug 5 spd with the factory exhaust manifold and it was pretty peppy,he also ended up with a silver 93 mustang LX 2.3 auto transmission factory exhaust header and the 4 plug coil pack lol,, and honestly the automatic did better burnouts but the 5spd car was faster lol..
Should have back seat ashtray in back of seats, inner panels
That mustache came out of nowhere. I hope you're growing that just for this car. 😂
Yeah it did! I think he may have sneezed and it popped out!
Man I had the opportunity in getting one of those just like that but red and black two-tone.
That possum was definitely a baby from the original possum lol that’s why the original didn’t want to leave so badly
Dig it, fun project to watch!
Craig you going to make another possum pissed off and homeless, but this is still a very desirable and cool car. The 10 holes were a great upgrade. I remember when you could but four with the caps for $150.00 or less.
Don't get rid of the Possum He ad's 10hp to that motor, Just need to give his nest back though! LOL
It really blows that engine swaps in California are so difficult and expensive to get around. That car is worthy of a 5 liter swap and be made into an ssp clone.
My thoughts exactly. I’m in the same boat with a 79 jeep I got, it has a decently put together 360 but this state figures it’s better rotting into the earth than being used that way.
As I understand it, *newer* engines from the same manufacture shouldn't be a problem; even less so if said engine was in that vehicle at some point in time. For instance, you should be able to install a 93 302 and it'll pass the BAR process without issue... provided you leave all the smog stuff intact.
Ultimate sleeper stroker motor approved
So, what happened to the Galaxies? The white one was practically on it's way to the paint shop and we've seen nothing of them since.
Metric size tires were predicted to be the standard by now, so Ford was thinking use 390 mm. Tire sizes still in inches, even in metric countries, who knew?
Yo tuve uno igual , saludos
If it were me I would clean the car really really good and fix all the to stock and drive it
Like this project 👌
The steering wheel in that thing looks awesome! Need to find myself one!
@ 2 16 here...... u mention ( LMR THAT SELL'S THE 5 LUG SWAPPED 10 HOLE FOR THE MUSTANGS )....... SO WHO IS & WHAT IS LMR..........??????
Just grab it’s tail, they “play possum “ move slow/freeze up, sometimes hiss. Unless they forget and bite the crap out of you.. 🤣 lots of teeth.
I'd use a spray bottle with some dawn dish soap & bleach and vinegar & spray the whole car down with it and let it sit for a little bit and use the pressure washer to rinse it off and it will get a lot of that scuzz off the car and look a lot better than wash it regular way warm water and good car wash soap
If I got a fox body it would be one like that I don’t care for the hatch back
nice little cruiser down the road perfect car for the coyote swap🤔
So a big block coyote, with stock look nice.
Barra swap it and take it on Power Tour next year. Maybe get some A/C in it too if you have time. Would be a fun timed build and you'd get some quality content out of it
Those TRX wheels are forged aluminum. Too bad they were the metric diameter. Back in the 70's the US was trying to convert to the world or metric standard, and these were the wheels Ford came up with. Some Mercedes came with 390mm wheels too, and early 80's Escort GT's came with 360mm wheels!
Haven't seen that hairstyle in 40 years 😂 🤣
Looking great. Gonna be a great car when done
Opossum is probably thinking, Hey, wheres Bob?
Very enjoyable 💪💪💪💪💪🤚🏻🤚🏻🤚🏻🤛🏻🤛🏻🤛🏻🤜🏻🤜🏻🤜🏻
You are super lucky. That is a great Mustang
