OK I never get to flex but I got to hang out and photograph while Mr Hibbens worked. He also opened the safe and let me hold the knives and prop knives from the Expendables. well done for another excellent review! so nice to see somebody is actually testing his blades! may i request that you review the Gil Hibben Magnum Bowie???
I was doing chopping today, I love making big bits of wood small. It keeps me entertained for hours.👍🏼 I only bled a bit today and wasn’t from my blade! (I was chopping prickles) Pretty stoked. The Bowie ain’t half bad.👍🏼
@@DonnieBAllDay how are you not a big fan of this shape ? i like it , its the little brother of the Rambo 3 knife , designed by gil hibben and way more badass than the Mk-8 and Mk-9 shape.
@@TheSkylineGODZILLA A better shape than the MK9 for sure, but not as attractive as the sweet lines of the MK8. Gil made a living designing some really ugly fantasy knives so the name alone means nothing to me. He has some sweethearts and he has some ugly step sisters. What I dont like about this design is the flat spine into the sharp step and the super high tight recurve.
Which of these would you recommend that I buy (i.e. which is the best knife for the value)?: United Cutlery Gil Hibben Legionnaire Bowie Knife II with Leather Belt Sheath for $103.00; or the United Cutlery GH5005 Gil Hibben III Fighter for $83.00; or United Cutlery GH5037 The Legionnaire Bowie for $63.00; or the Timber Rattler Bowie Knife (Outlaw) for $36.00. [Main use for home defense; but could take it with me when we go out 'on the range'].
The Serpentine? If so, it's full tang and that's a plus. The only issue I've had with United blades(M48s and Boshin series) are the weak handle construction. If the handle is plastic, I wouldn't trust it too much. But I don't think the Survival is. You might have a good one there.
I'm looking to get (another)Big Bowie now because of you lol, so CS Wild West Bowie or this??. Those CS Bowies are pretty sick, I've been trying to avoid CS lately but I may have to purchase one of those Bad Boys.
I have one its been bashed about a lot and still very sharp no marks on my blade i take it up the woods a lot it does all my camp jobs i like it too...
I’m looking into buying one and this video helped, but I have a few questions. Can you tell if this has a full tang? Does the blade easily get damaged from use?
I think its a stick tang. The knife will hold up to light/medium work but its shouldn't be bashed on 24/7. It can take some hard use, but I'd limit using it as a workhorse.
Hmmm... Hey Don, the Hibben Magnum, the OEF Defender AND the Cold Steel Luzon! Looks like unless I see what you do to the knives while they're in your hands, I (very) probably won't consider buying it!
@@DonnieBAllDay well Don, every knife I've purchased from your reviews I "know" I can count on them 100%! You can't put a price on that kind if peace of mind. So, thank you... Sincerely!
Hi Brother ... I’m having a Hibben Legionnaire moment haha . Was playing with mine today . I’m watching your video , and I swear that Your knife appears Thicker than mine for some reason . ( I have the polished pakkawood handle ). Still a little confused on the tang . Not sure if it’s full or not . I looked up the Legionnaire 2 and that says Full Tang . Hmmmmmm.......
I did a review on the Hen & Rooster stag handle Bowie and a few others. They are German Stainless, 4116. If the steel is treated right, like those are, it's almost unbeatable. Cold Steel uses 4116 and it has been proven a winner in all that I own.
There are better options for the money. It can be used for sure, just not as hard as some others. Biggest thing would be the need for field sharpening.
Anyone know of a knife like this that's not intended to be a wall hanger? Would prefer a knife of this type that was actually designed and intended for outdoor use.
I have a partnership with The Khukuri House in Nepal where I'm one of the knife designers. I have an idea what a kukri is. Haha! And you nailed it 100%!
It's not meant to be thrown why you taking the beautiful knife like that and banging it you got to get your head checked man I don't think you know any better

Been trying to find this knife in the UK, it's always sold out! So it must be good.
It's good, not great. People buy it mostly for the Hibben name even though it's made by United Cutlery.

And again a great video and a super cool bowie knife! Is the blade sharpness comparable to the cold steel 1917 frontier bowie knife? Thx a lot!
It's pretty damn sharp. My 1917 came razor sharp out of the box. Not sure but it may have been a little sharper.
