I have watched this video probably 3 or 4 times now. Every time I come back and hear it again, I learn something new. Thank you Marshall, from the bottom of my heart, wherever you are now. : )
Nonviolent Communication. Very much needed analysis and practical steps to solve the problem. Such basic thing as communication is still a mess everywhere. Even "acceptance and tolerance" of XXI century comes with "My way or highway" attitude. This can be cured, but only if the sick person wants to be cured. But since everyone is "fine", no opportunity.
Thank you so much for uploading this workshop. I feel hopeful about changing the ways that I was suffering from, by communicating with others and myself by blaming and getting angry. I see the world differently now! I am definitely getting those 3 jackal lists to work on. let's distribute giraffe ears, what a power!
Wow, I'm bown away by how he distills the myriad of possible human thoughts, feelings, and emotions into actionable present day ways of communicating with each other. I love the concept of natural giving that he presents in the beginning, I've also heard people say unconditional giving, and I've heard many in recent times talk about giving communities. There is so much here, I'm going to listen again, and maybe then again:-) thank you for making us available!
I love this workshop and I agree with the method of communication, but I will point out that our genetic evolution is behind social judgement. It's not necessarily societal programming; it's a form of survivalism via the social group. But I do agree it is in our best interest to train our mind to lean on the frontal cortex (primate brain) more, to help us with thinking through a situation and how to connect in a positive way, thereby reining in our mammalian thinking (Limbic System / mammalian brain). The two brains, cognitive (cortex) and emotional (limbic) are in a constant struggle. It is hard work to build the cognitive and slow down our emotional urges. At 46 I'm barely learning how to do this, going to take years to make it habit, but it's worth it. My self esteem and esteem of others has grown tremendously in the last year or so of trying to adopt this way of communicating and connecting emotionally in a positive way. So glad for this workshop. This is my 4th or 5th listen. Hopefully I'll be a better and better person and have much better interactions by doing the work. ... Just talking to myself I think. lol
WTF it is such a simple and fundamental model. That makes it so powerful. I wish I had listened to this video earlier, it had probably saved me a lot of trouble.
Anyone who says no, whether in jackal or giraffe 'mode,' will still fulfill their needs one way or another, while the person who receives the no may feel hurt, cross, brokenhearted, annoyed, etc.. (referring to 2.32.15)
I've watched this 3 or 4 times and after the fight i.just had with my now x friend im back i.wish he offered like a workbook to.go with it. Maybe i.will make one for mysef;)
It's absolutely brilliant of this man to use puppets for this. To get all these adults laughing while dishing out hard truths like this **chef's kiss** "Don't mistake giraffes for being nice", they aren't nice, they're sincere.
A compendium of the terms Marshal Rosenberg uses was posted here twice which you deleted. You do a diservice to your viewers by not giving them access to some of his top students works who see where most fail and need help.
Forming a judgement about a communication pattern isn't inherently damaging. This is behaviorism. Structuralism is missing. I prefer Gestalt. You don't need physical evidence to understand someone. You need communication.
Tbh this reminds me of the self oblivious notion that controlling nuclear weapons is equivalent to promoting democracy. That interpretation works in the long term but when the military industrial complex etc incentivize war, the short term issues look just like this here lecture. Imho
How often have you been accused of racism while having no consciousness of such sentiments working in your current sense of reality? Also is racism inherently emotional?
Great information. The body language , unfortunately, is so arrogant and seeped in superiority, that it was hard to take in the information. I think I'll stick to his books.
i hear what you're saying. at times i felt something like that too. i also wish he had given more solutions to some of the more difficult examples the participants brought up. i was left hanging more than once. i do struggle to follow the precepts in some situations (maybe many). what i find a little unsettling would be that the highest concentration of giraffe schools at the time that he listed was/were in gaza and israel. of course, i am not blaming nvc for the ongoing conflict of the past 150+ years. while perhaps no one can make you "do" anything, they can make you bleed or die. without picking a side other than peace, i really can't see how one can address a physically violent aggressor with nvc. i think he might say something about that in the book which i read a year or two ago and i am only half way through the video, but i wish i could. of course, this doesn't even take into account that pretty much all wars are profit generating mechanisms artificially triggered by the war machine. hard not to see them as feeling like psychopathic murderers.... the getting to yes series delves into this more. tough to keep giraffe ears on when your whole family is dead in a building bombed to pieces because they were unwilling to do what might have saved their lives temporarily. so sad....
Judgmental. You disapprove of his body language because you need more positive, loving reassurance. Deep inside you need more ❤️ and niceness from other people because you are not confident you can love and be nice to yourself.
I can see what you meant. It could also have been the camera perception that we see from. Somehow I got through because the things he says are so powerful, despite some postures I was surprised of.
Gotta really respect and love a person that can convey a healthy message in song 🥺😭 it gets me every time
Please never take this video down! I have only just discovered it and I need to return to it over and over again.
Thank you for sharing

We live in "no Justice, no Peace" , "you are either with me or against me" civilization. Universities teach that.

Fantastic, thank you for the upload. How sad that only a few people watched it. In todays world everyone should watch it!
Still true today…❤
True
So powerful, yet so sweet❤
I can identify with being a jackal. Thanks for the opportunity to see this course, I will try to communicate less violent.
Thank You Marshall Rosenberg. Great teachings

"Nobody can make us do anything we don't choose to do"
And this is what Sartre meant by "we are condemned to be free".
Thank you very much for posting this. Incredible teachings
Thank you! This is very helpful to me.
Love as a need or a feeling, "do you love me", discussion girafe - Jackal 1:00

Anyone know if the handouts he used that day are still available anywhere?
I think there are exercises in the end of his books

When I focus on body language it is easy for me to make quick diagnosis.
