At the end he says "no one would've got this far with death note to do all this like me!!" And it's true... No he doesn't watch last part of series where he was on staircase his facial expressions shows that he now regret about what he have done. You can easily see his face looks about death note that's why I like anime cause at least in last light realize that he was wrong and shouldn't have picked death note!
The philosophy in death note is truly GREAT! no one is ever truly 'evil' Its all up to perception and one's own ideals. L did confine Misa because he refused to believe she wasn't involved. This is one of his flaws when Light and L talk in the rain; He basically says ``I suspected you wouldn't believe me.. no one is the task force does``. This is what makes this show truly great. 😀

Light might have eliminated all the criminals but he can't take away human nature. More criminals would just keep popping up. As he said near his death "Ive been Kira for years.. *blah blah*.. but it's not enough. This world is still rotten" The world will always have rotten people in it. No matter how many you kill.

His beginnings didn't last long, he went insane within the first 5 days of receiving the Death Note, before Ryuk even showed up.
