I've been trying to explain this to members of the Retro community for years, but the whole world seems stubborn about RGB cables, I have RGB cables for each of my systems but I find the composite look much more detailed and the colors are also more vibrant and organic You've made me want to test an RF cable very good and informative video
You'd really need two identical CRT TVs to do a proper comparison. The later CRT TVs had a lot of junk processing forced into them (e.g. sharpness, etc) compared to the older CRT TV.
RGB is good for arcade and 32bits to 128bits systems. Meanwhile i agree that RF is the best for under 16bits console systems. Monitor dot pitch and TVL lines is also important, old arcade monitors used RGB with the best colours but dot pitch was pretty coarse that will still have a soft image while keeping vibrant colours.
Just like my fw900 it’s almost like they were using my monitor as a reference for pixel graphics. Man the younger generations don’t give the pioneers any credit. They thought were were watching fog. Too bad we are such consumers, and get rid of technology’s that should have stuck around like crt’s.
I’ve got real issues with these new tvs I know technology has to move on but I just don’t see any benefit in these new hd flat panels. A game like Metroid prime on a crt still looks incredible run. Sharper than anything at 1080p
Great video TV display also play a large factor on the equation, old arcade games used rgb monitors and looked fantastic but these monitors used aldo pretty coarse dot pitch so things were smoother while keeping best posible colours... Generally for 16 bits or under console systems you definetly want a TV crt from 1980-1990 for 8 bits and 1990-1997 for 16bits... 2000's are best quality but these crts alteady begun to use a finer dot pitch, witch is great for 32-128bits systems. Anywais i agree with you 8-16 bits systems consoles games should be generally used on RF output to display its best.
Another important things i miss to say its that, screen inches wich should be between 13-17" For 8 bits and 14-21" for 16-32 bits. Once you are in 128bit its when you can already go a bit wider and go up to until 29,32 inches while not pixelating so much the image, because higher poligonal chargue and improved AA.
I've been on a real nostalgic kick and want to get a crt without spending a ton, from my bit of reading online, those later crt that were flat screen apparently aren't considered the best in the community, I wish I could find one with at least s video that's a bit older and still considered good without spending a ton. I grew up with various small RF only tv and was happy as a clam, nobody knew any better back then as a kid
The DK island statue look so detailed cant believe it
This old games can show ton of detail they just need the right tv/cables

I know this all too well. Retro gaming has an influencer problem.
@@benjaminyoung9694 exactly and it works perfectly
look at the market for RGB cables
It's nice to have the same vision as you

the colors on the old tv is just crazy good, more natural
RF is based. Change my mind.
you keep that tv never ever sell it
That is it. RGB sucks, we like RF and composite.

I will look into this. I still have my rf snes hookup

look at the barrels they have much deeper color but on the apex they look almost red everything have a reddish ton to it
Cool!
I’ve got a little Philips crt I love it. I haven’t tried rf with it but I might now actually
Probably the apex using some sort of a filter, looks similar to bilinear filtering
I’ve sold my nes/snes minis because they aren’t good enough quality
imagine if that old tv had s video or rgb
