The scheme:
The number of loops must be divisible by 2 + 1 + 2 edge stitch.
In the example the number of loops are 17.
1 row - knit loops only.
2 row - knit loops only.
3 row - knit 1, lowered knit 1 (repeat loops specified between **).
4 row - knit loops only.
5 row - knit 2, lowered knit 1, knit 1 (repeat loops specified between **), knit 2.
Repeat from the 2nd row.
Lowered knit 1 - we insert the needle into the loop on the row below, we knit the knit loop.
