- A Raytheon High-Energy Laser Weapon System (HELWS) has been mounted on a British Army combat vehicle and successfully test-fired.
Using similar technology to the Royal Navy DragonFire laser, but designed for the Army, this new weapon is a lightweight portable system that can be fitted to a vehicle such as the Wolfhound and used to counteract drone threats.

Less than the price of a cup of tea. Very British!
The system 2 billion dollars😢😂
@@observador0174pay for itself eventually 😅
Only five years until we have phase plasma rifles in the 40 Watt range
Ivan’s getting turned to red dust
@@Jht.66What if Ivan just uses a mirror 😂
Star wars. When do we learn lightsaber techniques to deflect lasers? Lol
@@Ajwananownot sure to what extent you are joking. It might not be too far fetched as ‘lightsabers’ are scientifically possible. We just haven’t developed all of the necessary technologies to the right level to be able to make a working one like in the films.
There are videos on RUclips that show some engineering type people putting one together. The main problem is they have to lug around a bulky power pack to power the super heated plasma stream that forms the blade. Containment for the plasma and heat management for the generator is also a problem and needs much improvement.
Still pretty cool to see what sort of things can be made possible with a bit more advancement.
Finally a sensible currency that surely anyone can understand
A cup of tea being a standard British unit of measurement if anyone is wondering. Its equal to about 1.5 USD, 131 russian ruples or 0.92 euros.
Enything Between 25 and 50p it's a bargin
1.5 USD or ~1.20 quid for a cuppa??? Not in this economy! You haven’t accounted for the last roughly 10 years of inflation there lad. More like £3.00
Well done to all involved in this project. Keep pushing the envelope.
We talking about roadside food trailer cup of tea prices, or upmarket Hotel cup of tea prices? 😂
Yes
15 years ago, it was a conspiracy theory that the military had laser weapons 😂
Unless it’s weetabix, sausages or London buses I just can’t understand measurements 😂😂😂
What they forgot to tell you is that each shot is the cost of a cup of tea from Harrods😂😂😂
I see Labour are claiming this as one of there promises of updating the armed forces😂😂😂😂😂 this of course has took a few years to develop
Anybody would think the last government were honest...🥱
Brilliant lets keep the advantage not flog it off as everthing else we do, just thought though no hiding that flash from the lazer😮
US are well ahead with this sort of tech.
HAVE BOXES.OF.LIPTON TEA
Not that good yet at big targets like missiles
Why do we let everyone know what we have
I see that it’s only a single beam. Multiple lasers targeting several objects or an object would be an advantage in the field. Think bigger and get the job done faster.
Better get those Terminators out there quick British government. I know they’re probably working on it at JPL and at DARPA. The Chinese probably already started working on it as well.
heres my problem. wont nations just start adding reflective coatings to the drones so it will just reflect?
You're talking serious amounts of radiation being pin pointed at a single spot on drone/airframe etc. It'll heat up really fast to the point where 'reflective paint' will be pointless due to the detection/stand-off range these weapons can be utilised within. Which is to say, the enemy can throw as much paint on as they like, but the airframe will still combust and be destroyed before it is anywhere its objective. NATO will only be making even stronger versions of this for ICBM's and larger airframes etc. (If they haven't got them already).
The big test is not lots of reflective paint, but how it will handle swarm technology used against it - of which the yanks already have since (publicly) around 2013.
Anti-drone weapon?
Why do they always say ground breaking as if its something new? Lasers have been weaponised for years in various applications
Name one system that's vehicle based and can shoot down drones lol
Does it have a safe mode for when the troops start partying? Disco lights.
It's good to see that things are moving on but lasers cannot be employed effectively in an environment affected by fog or battlefield smoke. Employment will give its position away making it vulnerable to counter battery fires. Of course this is true of other weapons systems...
What counter battery system can detect a laser lol, lasers have no radar signature 😂
Just make sure the CCP dont get hold how this is made.
Don't worry, they'll send a handful to Ukraine so the Russians can capture them, like they did the NLAW's, Javelins and other equipment currently fielded by NATO troops. 😑
FATHER WAS VET NEPHEW IN AIR FORVE
Big lazer gun.😂
Real life is getting more and more like science fiction all the time. Seems like if someone can dream it up, someone else will make it.
I was taught this at a young age... If you see it in the movies or here about it enough. It will come to fruition. Pre internet. I'm 40+ yrs old........... Stop watching conspiracy theories/opinions and hype people online, and pay attention to the idea of things/technology/movies or start-ups... It's what propels human ingenuity/entrepreneurship...
Can it fire all the colours of the rainbow, seems to be a British army priority these days.

All china will need to do is pay someone with clearance in the right/ relevant office , en voila.... The schematics
Ok and?
Doesn’t stop the fact that we have it too.
@@PinkBalaclavaGuybut it does give them them ability to counteract it more effectively
Israel already has them they are use them in the first first few hours of the war
I can See a Problem with This system, 4 @ $300 a Pop, Drones All points of the 🧭 Attack, let's say they wouldn't hanging up in the sky like on the video 😜. IT only takes 1 Drone to get through and land a strike, weres the Laser operator Has to be Lucky Every Time, Wast of time, You'll Only Learn after getting Badly 🔥.
Economy of Waging War 💲3 to 4 million Tank Against 3 to 4 Drones for Under a 💲1K, Take a long Hard 🤔 about it, Who's Winning 😜
FUSSY WITH TEAB.A CO WILL NOT BUY FROM BUY.TEA ONLINE FROM GROCER
Well, a cup of tea is kinda expensive nowadays but still, compared to other defensive weapons. This is probably the cheapest. (And coolest)
