I have been to this place a bunch, but never went in. It was always sealed. But in 2006 I was working to clean up all the boats that floated out of the marina and the bunker was open. But water was all the way to the top. You could only go in 3 steps or so. I always wanted to get a huge trash pump and completely drain it. Looks like someone did it. Recently (2022) I worked on a team that removed a ton of old infostructure from charity hospital. I got a lot of cool footage from that. Just need to wait a bit before I upload it.
This was so interesting. I couldn’t imagine though walking through it and I give y’all props!! I’ve always been interested in all things about, Louisiana . Especially, NOLA. Thank y’all for creating this content.
Thank you so much for posting. Y'all have such guts to do this and hope you didn't gag too much. Watching your videos makes me want to visit New Orleans and learn about its history. For some reason out of all the states I visit, Louisiana is my favorite.
Someone has actually pumped it out quite a bit i went couple time in high-school and the water was way higher then that literally was to the second set of steps and we couldn't make it down as far as yall and yall are brave as hell and that guy living down there
Great discovery. I'm curious how do you know it was last used in 1980's ? Where does the civil defense unit exist in New Orleans? Really liking all the history you can find.
I can only find so much history on a place like this since it was considered a "secret". It could have been used for storage after the 80s but who knows because I know it flooded shortly after.
Those are tubes that used to be used or just like it , in televisions and radios. and the other things that are metal cans with little holes in the center are ferrite coils .
Its a bomb shelter..... threat of nuclear war during the cold war. these were common in the 60's. you go deep underground to escape radiation. I wonder if we will start building these again.
I guarantee it was was flooded from hurricane Katrina and other hurricanes from the past 😮😮 it's a miracle that this place has collapsed from all of the damage that is been going on for years on end
It was the civil Defense Headquarters. It was designed for the city officials in case of nuclear war or what not. Not much has changed. In case of disaster, the politicians have contingency plans to protect themselves, us peasants are screwed
Why would they even build a bunker or even a basement in New Orleans, the place is literally know for flooding and being under sea level, this would be the worst place to go during a hurricane. According to some of the old articles this was considered a bomb shelter, but still why wouldn’t they build it in higher ground so all the stuff they have in storage doesn’t end up flooded like it is now from even a small tropical storm.
What an awesome bunker! It reminds me of the one that John Connor and Kate Brewster ended up in at the end of Terminator 3, Rise of the Machines! It's an absolute shame that they let it fall into disrepair like this! The "Emergency Shower" is for decontamination of nuclear fallout or chemical weapons agents.
You've never seen vacuum tubes? They're iconic components of antique electronics. If you don't know what I am referring to, you tapped on one and called it a light bulb around 21-minute mark. Seeing vacuum tubes is a very good indicator that you really are in a time capsule.
Should show video of when it was new and fully functional if that exists… I’m sure it does because as a kid I remember watching it on TV the day of the grand opening…
Why is the male narrator of this video even THERE!! He is so whiny and complaining throughout, that I don’t think he’s into being an explorer at all. He seems so full of fear, that it is really distracting to watch the video. I much prefer the female explorer, who seems very brave, curious, and adventurous.
Lol new Orleans and you guys are not wearing OFFICIAL SNAKE PROOF BOOTS...IF I had a pair I would stay the that place has GOT to be haunted with spirits...I love that stuff and it dammmm sure is real..Asylum ohhh you in thier territory....Damm I would love to be there
New orleans has one of the most complex and well designed drainage and pump infrastructure, it floods everytime it rains but it gets dealt with VERY quickly. New Orleans wouldn’t be able to operate with out it!
Government here cant fix the roads or fix the crime. I saw a person living in a pot hole in the street once. like a cave in the middle of the road complete with bed mattress for sleeping. others use the pot holes as personal jacuzzies. and its the murder capitol of the country. not to mention if there ever is any money floating around all the city officials steal it. from city hall to the people at the water and sewer board stealing overtime pay not worked.
What an absolutely dangerous place. The city needs to shut it down permanently before someone gets hurt.
They usually have the door welded shut but someone broke the welds.
If your not from around here don't come

Woah, one of the craziest explores I've ever seen. I couldn't imagine the amount of mold in that place. It's giving me some Resident Evil vibes.

Love the narrative! ❤
I just can't imagine how it smells. Thank you for doing this video. I love learning about all of these places.

I have heard of this place but never got to see someone explore this so thanks for doing that😂
Cool explore! Ive never seen anything on this place on RUclips ever
Now you have! 🎆
Neat place, someone was pumping water out? Seeing those trash pumps on stairs.
I'm one for exploring and all but.... That looks a mad ass mess & extremely dangerous to say the least. 😮 You all definitely have courage 👍🏽
More government waste. Can just imagine what they have nowadays for themselves.

Looks like the last hurricane that was on the board in the round room was Kate. That was in 1985.
I'm looking at the soda machines... the tech in a bando usually gives good clues about timing

Thanks for filling us all in.
Lee Harvey Oswald worked for the Civil Air Patrol down here in the 60's. lots of civil defense stuff in the country from the cold war era
Went by last night. Door has been welded shut.
Ya I figured it wouldn't last long.
Thank god cuz that’s just atrocious. I wouldn’t even dare to explore that place 💀
i want to go sooo badly.
This is the best explorer video I’ve ever seen. Bravo!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I just wondered what made them build it below ground with it being below sea level? Did they not think it would flood during the hurricanes?
That's a good question.

If this facility only held 300 people I would imagine that for a city of this size there would have been several sites built.

Makes me wonder if that place flooded back when Katrina hit. or if it just simply filled over time being so far below the water table.
It floods even from basic rain storms.
