    watching this after return of rome dropped in aoe2, thanks for making this. there's not enough aoe1 content on youtube for new people to learn.

    im happy to see that some folks make the effort to show us something about aoe1 instead of only 2. id like to see a proper hd version of this game + new expansions just like aoe2. thank you for your work so far man

      Thanks a lot! I think that an HD release would probably boost its popularity tenfold. A lot of people have commented saying that they have no way of getting the game for cheap now since there is no online release :/

    Nice video dude! You have the general idea right. This will definately help out some of the true rookies who have no idea what they are doing. But there is A LOT of room for improvement. Here are some tips:
    1. Building choice is pretty bad. Buidling a stable instead of an archery range is a huge mistake. You should always build an archery range if your civ has chariot archers. Hoplites are really weak units and cavalary wil loose versus mass archers.
    2. When elephants are that close, you don't make a pit near them, but instead you lure them to your town center. That way, you an build your pit in a better spot, because the spot you built it in was really shitty. This will really hurt your performance more than you might think.
    3. You might already know this, but shore fishing is the quickest way to get food. That storage pit had fish nearby. I see that you fish later on, but what you should have done is take 2-3 guys off berries and on the fish to speed up your time. Shore fishing gathers almost twice as fast as berries and should always be the preferred food source at the start of the game.
    4. You can bronze with 25 villagers or even more. It all depends on how good your map is. I even think for newbies it is a little bit easier to go with 25 villagers, because it allows for an easier and faster Tool to bronze time
    5. With only 23 villagers you really want to be upgrading to tool age by 8:30. Maybe by 9 if your map if really bad.
    6. Upgrade wook working in the market, while upgrading to bronze.
    7. This map contains water and fish. You should have made a dock and some fishing boats.

      @ Blaze I can see you used to play this 20 years ago online. I play about every 5 years and can still bronze with 40 at 13 Minutes. 25 guys and 15 boats - coastal map. Tool rush with 3-4 archers with upgraded leather armor, and off to chariots when you hit bronze. I miss all those clans / guys on the old MSN gaming zone. I lived on there for 3 years lol.

    • @jimmyquan8897

      Minoan rush can be done with 24 villagers. But you will have no villager boom. If you play medium map 1 vs 1. If you play large map shall be 26 villagers. 22 villagers rush if map is superbad and he spawns near you but don't upgrade woodcutting since your eco it's pretty weak. Tiny map 18 villagers rush but I think KOR wouldn't be playable since of weak economy. Only persians can play with 18 villagers bronze.

      hoplites aren't weak, they are slow, but academy units have the highest base attack power in the game, starts at 17

    let me add that your video was mostly accurate and we'll done to help anyone who might be playing this old game. the only notes I would add is that if you have shore fish nearby their always the best source for food as they are faster to gather. Next is hunting followed by foraging.

    I'd suggest assigning a control group to your Town Center so you can easily produce villagers whenever you have the food while being with the camera wherever else. The same with artifact while scouting.
    Also, you really should use only 1 villager to lure the elephants and when it's close to the place where you need it, start hitting it with others while still running with the original hunter.
    Hope that helps, thank you for the video. :)

    • @RLelling
      @RLelling 4 года назад +1

      No need to assign a control group - if you press H it takes you to your town center.

  • @thesnare100

    I wonder if you got lucky, you had a place with both elephants and wood, which a storage pit would work for both, no need for a granary yet, whereas I had no huntable animals nearby with just a some berry bushes and wood. I had to first chop a few trees to have enough wood to build both a granary and a storage pit, which would slow me getting to the bronze and tool ages.Wish someone had videos of what to do in different resource situations. Though, I do see maybe you have this one a faster setting, the villagers move faster than mine.

    • @oanes8447
      @oanes8447 5 лет назад

      I think an early granary ist just mandatory, because you need it to build a marketplace. Of course it would seem handy to only need a storage pit at first but you really don't lose anything from building a granary early

  • @flip6383
    @flip6383 8 лет назад

    Thanks a lot man!, btw, which civs are actually strong early-game? and how would I change this build-order on a water-map?

    • @MrKleekus
      @MrKleekus  8 лет назад +1

      Thanks for the comment! I think the civ with the strongest early game is the Shang because their villagers cost 40 food instead of 50 which allows for faster age-ups and rushes. The Phoenicians are pretty good too because they have 15% faster woodcutting. There are also civilizations like the Assyrians that have buffs to tool age military units (in their case faster bow attack). I would even include the Sumerians as well to an extent, as their villagers have more hp.
      For water maps, I would probably put 8-10 on wood instead of five and start gathering gold with 3 or 4 villagers and mostly leave food gathering to fishing ships and around 8 villagers that are hunting/gathering. I would also start with hunting no matter what so I can save the wood for a granary to build a dock. Frankly, I'm not entirely sure how fast this Bronze Age would be, but it's pretty close to my standard water build which usually has a 16-17 minute bronze. This build uses less wood though, I think.

      Thanks! Back in the early days of my channel (I think it was when I was around 60 subs) I tried doing some live commentaries of AoE III but they were pretty unpopular with the audience and I figured that most people would rather that I allocate my creative energy to Age of Empires I and II rather than something that they wouldn't want to watch.

  • @jamesonfellows5725

    Yamato has cheap cavalry and horse archers. I played this game for years in the early 2000's. what I'm telling you is the truth. These 2 are the most powerful fast civs. The faster villagers that these 2 civs have is the biggest reason for this. The faster your villagers the faster you get to brz. The faster to brz the faster you attack.

    • @MrKleekus
      @MrKleekus  8 лет назад +1

      Yes, but when I say "strong early game" in the context of this video, I'm referring to civs with good options for the Tool Age and not the Bronze Age. A lot of the civs in this game have pretty lame early games and are much stronger in the Bronze and Iron ages. Cavalry and horse archers are not tool age units (save for scout cavalry, but those are too expensive for their relative weakness, even for the Yamato). The Yamato are what I would consider a good mid-game civ because their Tool Age attack is only slightly better than average because of the faster villagers. They can't really play to their military strengths until they reach Bronze Age unless they're on a water map.

    • @jamesonfellows5725
      @jamesonfellows5725 8 лет назад

      +MrKleekus just try your bronze rush strategy with either of the 2 civs I mentioned and you will see what I mean. you will get to tool, and brz faster. it doesn't matter about the strength of the units when your attacking other people's villagers.

    • @MrKleekus
      @MrKleekus  8 лет назад

      Jameson Fellows Well if *that's* what you meant, then there was no need for this debate. I misunderstood and thought you were saying that Assyrians and Yamato are the most formidable in the early game in regards to attacking power. Certainly these civs have an advantage by getting a quicker Bronze Age time, although I wouldn't say that the Assyrians have a strong strategic incentive for a Fast Bronze. Their Tool Age bow flood is quicker than their Fast Bronze, I'd say. However I would agree that on a map that is better for booming, then the strategic incentive for a FB is much stronger.

    • @jamesonfellows5725
      @jamesonfellows5725 8 лет назад

      +MrKleekus The Assyrians chariot archers in brz is pretty much what makes them the best. and because they have chariot archers they also have an advantage over Yamato in long games due to running out of gold.

  • @jamesonfellows5725
    @jamesonfellows5725 8 лет назад

    The most powerful early game civs are the Assyrians and The Yamato. This is because they both have faster villagers. The assyrians are the most powerful due to the faster archer fire rate.

    • @MrKleekus
      @MrKleekus  8 лет назад

      While I mostly agree with you, I don't think that faster villagers are the only qualification for a good early game civ. The Yamato are more of just a good economy civ in general because they can drop off resources faster for the entire game but don't have any noteworthy buffs to their early-game military. The reason the Assyrians are good at the early game is because one of their first available military units shoots arrows 40% faster. The Yamato have no such bonuses and their Tool Age arsenal is pretty vanilla. I think that the Shang and the Assyrians are actually the best early game civs, as the Shang have cheaper villagers and can click up and rush faster than any other civilization in the game.

    Ur APM is like 12. In water maps, get most vils to wood and get fish boats for food. Ur bronze will timing will be decent.

    • @MrKleekus
      @MrKleekus  8 лет назад +5

      Okay, then why don't you make a video where you pause to explain stuff and take time to show what you're doing? I'm pretty sure you only comment on these videos to insult me. All I'm trying to do is play casually and teach newer players not to get owned all the time. I purposefully avoided fishing to give or more general idea of the build order because every map isn't a water map. If you want some professional competitive gameplay then you should move on because this game's competitive scene died 10 years ago.

      My video-capturing software is awful and renders horrible blurred versions. Anyways, my APM is slow, but not as bad as the one in your vid. You must optimise your resource gathering. Although I have not played humans in ages, I think I would own you.
