Out. Of. Control. He has sung backgrounds for just about everyone. He has the ability to blend perfectly for backgrounds but he has so much character that he's also a phenomenal lead. How he's managed to hang on to his range at his age is just astounding. He would have been about 60 by this point. He's pacing himself a bit but no man should be able to hit those notes at his age. That voice defies gravity.

It don't matter about the rehearsal because when the artist get out in front of that audience, they're feeding off of each other's energy, and the artist just does some amazing, surprising things that astound all the listeners, like was exhibited here. He spent soooo much time on how he wanted to express every phrase, and in reality, some instances happened on the spot! Man, In reality, he's one of my my teachers, Not only is he a vocalist, he's an accomplished keyboardists! This is me, former lead singer for Polydor recording band Zoom. It's AMAZING how "live" and purely unrehearsed this really is. At 5:54 and again @ 6:25 the Background singers are ready to jump back in but Phil holds them off with a subtle hand gesture while he finishes what he came there to do lol. Everybody just knows what to do and to follow his lead. True artistry.
