- In 1939 Poland, Antonina Zabinska (two-time Academy Award® nominee Jessica Chastain) and her husband successfully run the Warsaw Zoo and raise their family in an idyllic existence. Their world is overturned, however, when the country is invaded by the Nazis and they are forced to report to the Reich's newly appointed zoologist (Daniel Brühl). To fight back on their own terms, the Zabinskis risk everything by covertly working with the Resistance and using the zoo's hidden tunnels and cages to save families from Nazi brutality.

Such a beautiful film but painful to watch.
The first ten minutes were wonderful to watch thinking “Awh what a lovely family film”
After those ten minutes this was no longer a family movie 😢

I went to the Warsaw zoo today and saw the real deal. I cried so much. I don’t know how people could be so evil

Thank you for posting this, was discussing WW2 films with a veteran friend tonight, and I know they can’t handle the whole movie, but I wanted to show the beginning of what the zoo was, and this is perfect.

That woman is sooo beautiful and so the man... Beauty means so different for different people... Saving lives... In such ugly Hitler history there were so many angels ... Human and spiritual ensuring survival of life and hope and benevolence..
