    Here's my 2 cents:
-removable motherboard tray (for easy access to troubleshoot)
-flippable orientation (lefty-righty, also vertical-horizontal, not everyone's workstation looks the same)
-4 mounting points for triple rads (top, bottom, front, back, give us options for which airflow path we want)

      @larry258 2 месяца назад

Quad rad is a great idea but would be difficult to keep the floor profile under control especially with there not being a spot for power and having to do a dual chamber. Quad rads and a removable mobo tray is a nerve-wracking combo too. Makes plenty sense for an air build, not so much for a heavy water build.
Dual pump mounts for better temperature isolation is solid. Having a compact third would be great for water cooling RAM and SSDs.

Removable motherboard trays were a thing in the past and they ceased making them for a reason. They sound good on paper but ultimately they will not save you of much inconvenience and make case prices higher.

    • @azndood
      @azndood 2 месяца назад +6

Removable trays have been done but don't work out practically speaking. You still need to unplug everything if you want to remove the MB in a built system. Second issue is the rigidity of the case after the tray is removed and I've even seen some warped due to shipping. Triple rads isn't a good feature. All you're doing is making your case into a hot box if you close off any clean intake. If anything, a dual layer/thick rad would be better for cooling.

    My personal must-haves:
1 - cooling capacity. I want my components cool!
2 - Modularity. I think it would be great to give people the opportunity to change component orientation if they wanted to.
3 - Ease of use. Front panel connectors being one singular unit; space for cable management; the ability to work and troubleshoot without being totally cramped up
Neat to see you have the opportunity to provide input on a new case design!!

Give an option for 5.25" bays. So many modern cases physically have the space inside, but it's all taken by fans. - Those back-panel fans you dislike are so obviously fitted in the space in front of the motherboard that used to be for drive bays. I'm guessing they're mostly filling up space because the front-back dimension needs to be so large for modern GPUs.
Perhaps a way of removing the top-front fan and adding a drive-bay cage instead. That'd still leave room for 2 front fans. Or make it slightly taller an allow a couple of drive bays above/below the typical 3 fans (ideal a way to let us choose).
An optional opaque, metal side panel would be nice for those of us who don't care about RBG. It's also a space for more mesh (or even a large side fan, those haven't been seen for a while and make more sense than fans on the back panel)

  • @jdowls9538
    @jdowls9538 Месяц назад +3

Funny that you bring this up, as Ive been looking into cases lately for a new build.
    1. foot depth - No use having bottom fans if theres no airflow path under the case.
    2. 140mm rear fan option - extra exhaust (even if most people wont put a fan back there)
    3. main compartment width - with GPUs getting taller, there needs to be some space between the top of the card (or front if vertical mount) and the side panel for airflow.
    4. weight - Im not saying "it cant be more than x pounds", but I dont clean my 011d as often as I should cause the whole build is STUPID heavy and awkward its just not worth moving unless I have to.

Don't forget simple quality of life things - cases occasionally need to be moved, and are frequently placed on the floor, so make sure there's some decent way to grab and lift it near the top. Either shaped ridges or actual handles, or at least slits for straps.

Jay, I am one of those old guys that had a great middle school in the 90's that offered DOS navigation, and computer building as electives. My first custom loop was around 1995 and had a fish pond pump and auto store hoses with hose clamps, back when we had to cut holes in the side panels and roofs of cases to mount fans. I have built in everything imaginable and right now have been rocking a Phanteks nv7 that I think has design merit that was overlooked. It was so easy to only see that case as the next glass wrapped dual chamber clone that was all esthetics, but actually living with it and building loops in it some design language came through that was new to me. First off, the chimney style of air intake works well due to the angled bottom of the case. 140mm fans only fit there allowing for a CFM focus and not a pressure designed fan, which is important as it is the only intake. I usually hate the fans on the motherboard wall, however in this case they are used for exhaust through a 360 rad. There is enough room to allow a 44mm thick rad here in push pull config. The top of the case is unlike anything on the market, as the forehead of this case is almost 5in. I have a 60mm thick 360 rad up there in push / pull config as well with room to spare. There was clearly thought given to cleaning the loop, as there is a fill port in the roof, and areas for two drains in the base. Now the back door of this case I thought would mean nothing to me, however it does a great job in keeping dust out. I have the airflow very balanced, and that back door feature with the 50/50 mesh has unexpectedly kept this case cleaner than any I have ever used. Not only does it do that, but the door means you can hang pumps/fans/reservoirs out the back of the case. The cable management is mediocre at best, and there are some other quirks...but some of the design triumphs of this thing were overlooked by reviews that just said it was beautiful. Maybe that might give you some thoughts to consider in your build. Thank you and I always enjoy your content.

I think one of the best water cooling designs I’ve seen is the dual chamber from digital storm. You had the “component” chamber and the “radiator” chamber separated. The radiator chamber was unidirectional, in one side out the other, effective for removing heat from the case but also it didn’t blow the heat over the components and increase the ambient temp inside the case. Also kept the dust off of the shiny parts.

3 - More usb-c ports in the front or top of the case

  • @MakinComputers
    @MakinComputers 2 месяца назад +1

    1) cable management - keep it simple, lots of room, 30mm absolute minimum, 40mm preferably, no complicated moulded plastic channels that restrict your routing choice, just lots of places to tie cables down.
    2) mounting space for pump-res, I wouldn't waste space and add depth for the sake of dedicated pump-Res mounting. I don't think there are many left that don't have mounting for 120/140mm fans, so just leave it at that. Maybe put some mounts on top of the PSU shroud for it?
    3) you want to make a case that's more catered for watercooling, consider putting some pass-through holes into he motherboard tray for routing tubes in the back for super clean looking loops.
    4) if the company you're doing this with makes a fan controller, get one included with the case and make sure it has temp sensor inputs, so you can run fan speed depending on loop temp like you're meant to
    5) don't be afraid to make a case with a design that's a bit out of the norm. Make a case that you think looks great, add some colour and graphics to it if you want, do something fun with it!

      Top, Side, and Front removable.
Tall enough feet that handles aren't needed and there's plenty of space for bottom fans to breath even when stuff gets knocked under the case.
Vertical GPU mounting with enough space to not choke the card.
Enough space for a tall tower cooler.
If dual chamber a full sized vertical PCIe slot in there too so that add-in cards like NIC's and HBA's don't get in the way of the GPU/GPU riser cable, a PCIe X1, X2, and X4 riser cable might be needed too.
One or Two 5.25" bays, can be put in the second chamber vertically, for mounting aftermarket drive bays or anything else, if there's not a card in the above slot, you can use it to pass through an external HBA and use this case to house extra NAS drives.
Top mounted hot plate with splash guards so even if i forget about my coffee it's still warm, if i remember to put my mug on the hot plate.

This is an amazing video, glad you're working on a PC case design. I build PCs for a living so I hope I can help you out on your idea.
I'm personally never willing to pay more than $100 for a case, so this is my take on it. My must haves:
    - Front mesh filter. No solid front panel.
    - Enough room for cable management. If there are built-in velcro ties for cables, it's a plus.
    - Hinged side panel.
    - PSU shroud. Whether the side of the PSU is visible or not is irrelevant.
    - PCIe slot covers must be reusable. I hate when you have to break them off.
Side notes: Rubber grommets are good. If the PC has tall legs it's really useful (helps the bottom fans and the PSU a lot). Easily removable front, bottom or top mesh filter is also a plus, but not a must. Built-in RGB hub is also a plus, but not a must. If the case comes with fans, they must be controlled by a button on the case.

  • @richardallankellogg

I have an idea that I think would add to a case for water cooling. Take your typical case, with an area in back for all of the routing wires and tubes. Add a 4” thick rear chamber , with a swinging frame/door. The chamber edges are perforated for air flow. All of the water cooling rads 3x360s are on the swinging door frame, along with a res/pump. The door would be on hinges, and removable. You could use quick disconnects to allow taking the door off completely.
The main advantage is outside air flows in the gap around all 4 sides into the chamber and out through the radiators. None of that air enters the case interior, which could easily be cooled by a few internal case fans that draw intake air, and pressurize the case.

Hello Jay, my top 5 must-haves: 1. detachable motherboard tray; 2. vertical GPU mount and side wall far enough to let it cool; 3. room to put some controllers like RGB or fan controller; 4. hinged tempered glass with a steel frame for protection; 5. enough room to hide surplus cables behind the motherboard (esthetics). It would be nice to include a razer cable for vertical GPU mount and you can make the case a little bit future-proof by putting modular front IO (in case someone wants a new type of USB port or upgraded it). Best regards

How about a 100% cooling oriented case?
The sides consist of two MoRas as intakes (with mesh filters). The Motherboard would hang in the middle between the two, giving both sides space to "breath" and of course for cable routing. Top would be a 420 radiator as exhaust. Bottom and back would be exhaust without fans or rad. Front would be a 420 radiator as intake (with mesh filter)
Air would get in from the front and sides, then exhausted top, bottom and back with positive pressure inside the case. Of course inside working with mounting brackets for ease of installation. Handle on top for transport. A true cooling beast. Normal operation only the 3x140mm front fans would run slowly. Fully ramped up the top 3x140mm would help, as well as 8x200mm from the two MoRas. And that's without going for push/pull which would double the fans 😂 no RGB, no window, no nothing. Just raw industrial performance 😅

    1. Storage is an issue nowadays. Company's have gotten away from HDD cages and limits the usability of transferred drives.
    2. Air flow. Must have High Air Flow while remaining quiet. This is a must for me.
    3. Customizability. It must be able to be set up in multiple ways to account for different hardware and different systems. No one wants to spend a bunch of money and not keep the case when it is time to upgrade the motherboard and CPU's/GPU's.
4 Must have water cooling capability. Must have radiator mounts or it is useless to me.
    5. Cable management. Must have plenty of room for cables to hide excess cables from view.
These are 5 things I look for in a new case. There are more but these are the major ones. I haven't purchased a new case in over 11 years because of the storage issues of new cases and none of the new ones can accommodate my 5x HDD's along with my 3x 2.5" drives. And yes I have 2x M.2 drives also.

Hi Jay. For "optimal" airflow and circulation, what is preferable is that the fresh air supply comes from the bottom and at an angle of 22.5 degree, so that the air hits the motherboard and the below it. If you install 3 120mm fans, the air supply will be sufficient. there would be a possibility of adding a 140 mm fan at 45 degree, in the front and bottom of the case, at a certain distance, to "direct" the air more in the center and towards the rear, which will require the current rises upwards, in the radiator. Like this, a certain part will enter directly into the radiator of the video card and be expelled towards the back and the other part, caught in the fins of the CPU cooler. To really be better, you would need predefined "air passages", like in servers. I love the principle of an “open source” box. Thanks for everything Jay.

I had an idea for a very long time of a case with 3 5,25 inch bays that would run in parallel with the top fans(this would look like if you decide to put DVD players as three dvd players in a row length wise in parallel to the top fans and accesible through the top) the idea behind this would be like a second chamber behind the mother board tray where you can use the thre 5,25 inch bays to mount ssd u.2 hot swapable devices, or with a braket desing for it any kind of things like pumps, resivours, HDDs, heck even more usb connectors, in the case of the watercooling stuff this could help for the access for refills.

2 - built in place for a stats monitor screen, or at least a convenient place to put one that isn’t in the way of fans or tubes. (I use a raspberry Pi now with my water tubes molded around it to hold it up, but a proper place built into the case for it would be amazing)
3 - enough space in the back for really good cable management even with a larger power supply. I use one of the longer PSUs and it makes cable management a nightmare.

1)Turn the motherboard so the IO faces down.
2)Traditional fan placement at the front
3)Duplicate fan placement at the rear (air goes in and straight through the back, no redirecting)
4)Video card will now slot in vertically allowing airflow directly into it and eliminating sag problems
5)Drive bays move to the top along with front IO allowing quick access and expansion from the top of the case.
6)Power cord goes out the bottom along with any cords. As long as there is a minimum of 2” turn radius all cables should be fine.

    In no particular order.
    1. Easy to build in. Ex: Holes and hole cover big enough to fit standard cables (ATX 24-pin) through and hole placement.
    2. Enough room to fit the majority if not all major aftermarket brands. (Recently I found out that my EKWB/w active backplate for my EVGA 3090 FTW3 doesn't fit in the vertical slots of my Corsair Obsidian 500D). I had purchased everything for that case about a week and a half before your EKWB video came out :(
    3. A nice covered area to hide all the power cables coming out of the PSU or an option to cover the PSU shroud if it's vented. Some have a vented shroud that you can see the cables.
    4. Modularity. Having good options not just for the basic things, but for aftermarket as well. (Ex: Reservoir bracket placement, Vertical GPU mount placement) and being able to accommodate the different brands/sizes.
    5. Leaving out any unnecessary things like a RGB button/fan controller on the front I/O etc.
    6. Tool-less, door on a hinge, sturdy construction, clean lines, nothing too far out there in design.
    Thanks for listening :)

    - dedicated ventilation for PSU
    - if dual chamber, place for fans in the back to get some airflow in the back chamber where your SSDs are.

This goes in line with the vertical height philosophy and would allow 3 bottom and 3 front intake (with support for 360 rads). The Torrent proved that top mounted PSU design is being slept on and the NV9 graciously supports 2 140 exhaust and a 240 rad. 1. Non-see-through side panel option. A stamped steel side panel is lighter and won't break.
    2. At least 2 3.5" hard drive spaces. Spinners may be slow, but they're cheap. A couple of 2.5 drive spaces are also quite useful.
    3. I know this is a 1% item, but an external 5.25 bay for an optical drive would be incredibly useful. I have a LOT of PC games on CD/DVD, and having to dig out the USB DVD drive to play them is a pain. Maybe behind a flip up door that would normally conceal the USB/headphone/SD(?) connectors. This is so ridiculous how sooooo many case manufacturers have just completely dumped them in the name of "mah air cooling" which, let's be honest, 95% of users aren't going to need the extra cooling actually, and the other 5% who really care that much about squeezing maximum performance out of every single component are just gonna water-cool their components anyway. It gets even more absurd when you see some cases STILL have awful air flow even after they've dumped all the 5.25" drive bays.
And for everyone else who is like, "Why do you need an optical drive bay, bro? it's not the 2000s anymore, bro," you can use 5.25" bays for SO MUCH MORE than just optical drives including hot-swap internal drive bay, optical drive, extra ports panel, storage drawer, water cooling reservoir, status screen, speaker/audio system, battery system, extra graphics card compartment, and extra fans (if there's enough bays). And you know what... Even coming back to the so-called outdated optical drives, some of us have blu-ray collections we want to be able to play on our PC, and still more of us use M-Discs as an extremely resilient way of archiving stuff.
I myself have a Phanteks Enthoo Pro and while I admit I don't use my optical drive often at all (don't have a blu-ray collection yet), I use my hot-swap drive bay ALL THE TIME. It is so choice.

@@FirestormX9 With massively outdated front-side ports and the cases sometimes really annoying to build in. Yeah, what a great idea... Admittedly, you can probably just switch out the front ports on many of the old cases if you really needed to, but you're REALLY gonna have to jerryrig it. And you know what, maybe some of us feel like the potential is there for us to go even better than 90s PC cases and want to see something new and exciting that actually pushes PC cases forward.

Things I typically look for in a case: Full Tower with room for lots of fans/good air flow, psu shroud/compartment, and space for decent cable management. Another cool option would be a removable motherboard tray. Overall, the more modular the better for a variety of build options/future proofing. This is so awesome that you're designing a pc case, Jay!

I wanted to take some time to think about what are ,y favorite things from cases to make a perfect case.
    1. Front IO being on the bottom of the case and moveable. So modularity.
    2. A removable motherboard try and back panel. So I can I pretty much, cub build the pc outside the case and move it back in. Or a removable top to make it easier to assemble.
    3. Generous cut outs for cables. I have larger hands so tiny cut outs are a real pain.
    4. I like where run cut outs are but not the pointy cable channels that are a few cables thick. Not all cables work with those.
    5. A nice to have would be two dedicated spots for two pump/res combo units for double loops… but that’s a pipe dream lol.

  • @ItsssJustice
    @ItsssJustice 2 месяца назад +6

Honestly... while it likely wouldn't suit the majority of people's use cases (ha... cases... get it!)... it would be REALLY cool to see a computer case that could both be freestanding on some removable feet AND optionally rack-mountable via just having attachment points that fit a set of rails; which means that the case has additional use later in life if it is ever repurposed in a server rack. This would also give you the rough dimensions of the case if you were to base it around a standard 3U or 4U rack size. Plus there aren't really that many "pretty" rack-mount cases, especially not that many that have been configured out of the box well for watercooling (that you can obtain as a consumer anyway...). When you discuss compartments; practically in a lot of enterprise systems, they also use a lot of ducting throughout the systems to enhance airflow over various components to increase cooling efficiency; but there don't seem to be any cases using this sort of a technique to vent a radiator with high static pressure fans (which would potentially provide the option of placing a radiator somewhere you can't typically locate one in terms of venting directionality, to save space). Strictly speaking if you want a completely watercooled system for both CPU and GPU; it would be better to mount the radiators and fans on an external face of the case; in a compartment that isn't connected to the components, making sure the majority of the heat generated by the system never touches the internal components again, venting to completely fresh and unoccluded air. Looking forward to see what you come up with!

I’d like to see 5.25 drive bays. Not so much for drives, but for multi storage devices, monitoring devices, and/or control devices for things inside the case.
I like hinged panels, preferably made of glass. If not hinged, at least make it screwless (except for shipping).
I’m also with you about having at least two (2) 420mm rads. 1 on top, front and /or bottom.

-mounts for large fans like 180/200mm fans in the front. I love large, quiet, powerful fans.
    -good front IO
-PSU at the top for fans/rad at the bottom

  • @lunchboxthinks5804
    @lunchboxthinks5804 2 месяца назад

    A few things:
    1. Bring back a side panel with support for 1 or 2 - 120mm fans but keep it glass (I know, pricy idea, but make that panel an extra purchase option).
    2. Embrace the idea of "Push-Pull" option. Set the case up to have 3 options over 2 360 locations. 3 fans/3 fans and rad or push/pull and rad. Even if the mess panel was just set up to mount an outer layer of fans, as most fans look good anyway, might be a new and interesting design seeing a lay of fans on the outside of the mess panel.
    3. Rotatable GPU bracket. Get rid of these bulky vertical GPU brackets suck. If you are going full water cooled and are concerned with MB and M.2 temps, you need the GPU vertical if doing chimney cooling. Not so much with standard GPU mount, but if not there still isn't much airflow over the lower section of the MB, M.2 and chipset sections.

here is my ideal case jay as a air/aio cooling long PC user , and I think as and old school like myself you would agree:
1- get rid of tempered glass, but offer it as separate purchase (reduce weight and price overall).
2- mesh sidecover with custom mounting fan installation possibilities on the side cover, front mesh cover 360 fans size. with replaceable fabric mesh possibly?
3- PSU on the bottom with a cover and next to the psu are hdd 4 drive bays 2 rows by 2 each.
    4- 2 front 3.1 usb-c 1 fast charging and 1 for data+ 2 other USB-A 3.1.
5- possibility of standoff for the case like legs or even wheels for better airflow and breathing.
6- not assembled case option for cheaper price and also DIY love and experience (users can do custom paints and decals).
7- straps/ handles maybe? especially if you are designing mini itx lan version.
my reasoning for a lot of this suggestion are overseas unlike america/europe, there is a lack of different brand and sometimes it is expensive because of weight/shipping costs.
I know a lot of your viewers and you specially is water cooling enthusiasts so maybe consider these ideas for another case? also how about "turntable" pc case style? like flat&wide ( ATX PC-07 for example) but short so you can see everything but can be installed in creative places or even on table with figurines on top?

    Hello Jay,
Good luck with this project. I really like the points you mentioned and I have high hopes for this case. Here are some requests from my side:
    1. Rear compartment which can house 2 Pump/Res Combos - I never felt that a Res should be showed off and I certainly do not get the Distro-Plate direction. I put my pump in the rear compartment of the O11D EVO XL and love it. If it will be a part of the design, please remember to make easy pass-throughs for the tubes between the compartments
    2. Positions of the Radiators should be aligned with each other (also considering the cases depth) to allow a straight tube connecting them - whether you go Top & Bottom or Front to Back, this greatly increases aesthetics and having clean straight line connecting them can look great.
    3. Included options for special GPU mounting - For a WC Enthusiast case, the last place I'd want my GPU is in the slot. Instead I'd like to be able to show it off. Including special options with a Riser Cable can be costly, but a well-designed solution can be awesome. Maybe include it as an option.
    4. Symmetry! I love symmetry, hence point 2. I like cases that allow rads to be positioned at opposite ends, of course, but also for all of the internal layout to be as symmetrical as possible.
    5. The IO Ports can be positioned nearly anywhere as long as there is some clever way of accessing them. SilverStone Raven RV02 worked perfectly with IO in the top, for example. As it is primarily for WC, let the IO plate's position support Point 4 rather than think you have to put it in the back.
    Thanks for your consideration! :)

    3. Enough space for EXTRA THICK rads and fans in a push/pull configuration on both the top and the front.
    4. Enough depth in the case to fit things on the front glass side AND back (wire side) of the case with plenty of grommeted slots for cable management on all sides of the MB.
    5. A movable PSU location which in my opinion should be located in the back (wire side), not bottom front under the MB.

Been designing cases for fun since about 2014! Some thoughts:
    - square frame, top, bottom, front, and rear panels interchangeable so that the case can be not only inverted but also rotated
    - option for taller legs or wheels
    - flat pack, no rivets to make painting easy
    - removable fan/rad brackets
    - proper gpu support, adjustable height bracket mounted to frame. (wish they'd bring back the built in bracket old full length pci cards had but gpus are too long now...)
    - handles
    - modular front I/O
    - light in the rear powered by +5VSB
    - external mounts for fill and drain valve
    - no zip tie mounts, include a bunch of command adhesive strips and hooks instead and let the user choose where to place them
Perhaps we could create a super modular case a la Inwin Modfree:
    - could have included modules that let you choose between dual chamber w/ extra fans, shrouded bottom mount psu, etc
    - expansion units with 5.25" bays or built in trayless 3.5" hot swap bays would be neat
    - perhaps the main frame could be just big enough to accommodate an itx board with a psu and if you add modules you can swap out a bracket on the back panel for more pci slots and fit an ssi ceb or even eeb board
    - parts availability and dimensions on website so you can make custom panels

    1. Built in GPU support bracket, especially with how long and girthy graphics cards have gotten.
    2. If there is a PSU shroud have holes placed where you can get your 8/12pin to the side of your GPU best, and mounting holes for fans/reservoirs/radiators
    3. extra space allotted for fitting on the end of radiators.
    4. Built in Vertical GPU mount option.
    5. project zero/BTF/plug ins behind the board support
Price: 200 or below. Anything more and you can better spend money elsewhere. But you should get what you pay for, if it needs to be 200 to get there so be it.

Aesthetically, something I've never been able to find in a PC case is complete featurelessness. No windows, lights, logos, lines or angles. Personally, I want flat featureless panels on all sides with no seams. Have a skeleton for the parts to mount on, and then slide that skeleton into a vanta-black shroud with no lines or perforations, just a single featureless steel box. Only part of the shroud that is open would be the bottom and back. No front IO, just a power button hidden under the front. Power button is connected to the motherboard via a built-in connection on the skeleton, which would snap into place when it is inserted into the shroud. The shroud could even be connected to the skeleton on guide rails, so whenever you wanna do an upgrade or show off your parts, just undo a clasp and the whole exterior slides forward, revealing the mounting skeleton inside.

    * Cutouts for all models of rear-mounted connector motherboards (hoping back-panel connectors get more traction)
    * Ridges (like "speed bumps") on the back of the motherboard tray to increase rigidity
    * Rolled edges on all openings / cutouts, so they're not sharp (and increase strength)
    * 3+ sections of front-panel so we can either have mesh & fans... or take off 1-3 of the meshes & fans to put 5.25-inch bays for raid drives, etc.

my all time favorite case so far, is my dark base pro 900 white. completely reversible is neat. but one thing I'd really like, is a space/slot that fits fan hubs/controllers so it wouldnt require the double sided tape.

For me number one is quality. Tight manufactured gaps and some solid steel. Apart from that, like you said, consider as many options for mounting stuff. So think of as many different loops as possible in that case, so you realize if there's any compatibility issues. Oh and also, good screws that don't strip after cleaning your PC for the second or third time. Good luck Jay, you got this

    1. One thing I wish would come back would be the "all 3.5" bays" front design, where you have 'inserts' that can accommodate almost anything - like fan mounts, pump mounts, hdds, ssds, and even move the front IO up and down to where you wish. ( Pretty much thermaltake armor series cases ). This would also allow insane freedom in choosing the fan + rad setup locations to allow for top and front mount setups with dual loops and all that, that Jay mentioned was a mission to do loop bends around.
    2. I personally prefer the bottom to top design from the kinda-new coolermaster case, I think it was called the sl600m, although this wont work with the above feature.
After listening to jays ideas, I do think it would be difficult to incorporate most or all of the requirements into one case. He might get what he wants if he does 2 x designs, where one if the full tower with all the bells and whistles, and one is a mid case with most of the features but is cost effective ( or at least MORE cost effective ). Maybe the full design has a basement and the mid design does not ? dont know could be cool xD
Best of wishes for the design challenge though ! I do hope you make a vlog style video documenting the process if possible !

I was considering pretty much what you would want in a pc case when I currently building. I choose Phanteks G500A with the pre-installed 140mm fans and bought 2 packs of the Iceberg Thermal IceGale 140mm fans. I filled the rest of fan slots with 140mm fans. Another case I was looking at was Lian-Li Lancool 215 because of the 2x200mm in the front of the case, but this one is limited on radiator size. There were over the top expensive cases like Lian-Li V3000 and Anidees AI Crystal XL Pro Lite, where these cases had multiple options where radiators can go and lots of locations.

    A couple of peripheral considerations:
    • not everyone has room for their case on the desk at all, a purpose made stand, maybe as an optional extra, maybe a couple of different heights would be useful to some people.
    • water-cooled systems are heavy, how about incorporating some suitable lifting points into the case itself so we can get a secure grip when trying to get it on and off the desk once it is all built up.
    • GPU support system, if you are going to have the guts on show through the glass side panel, the GPU bracket wants to fit the aesthetic.
PS: I probably know nothing about cases, I'm still drilling holes in my 2006 made Thermaltake Kandalf LCS case to fit the latest tech inside it... 😂

In terms of design, I love the new Fractal cases that have wood accents. It really adds some natural warmth to the case and feels very unique compared to other cases on the market

Here is what I see as must have (that cases often don't have):
    - Air filters that are easy to detach for cleaning ie. that should not require me to disassemble the case, disconnect cables or use tools.
    - Room for extra long expansion cards.
    - Motherboard should be oriented so ports are oriented up rather than back, it is so handy for when putting the case on the floor. Some Silverstone cases are like that.

love this idea for making a custom loop focused case
some thoughts of mine are , a dual chamber design similar to the 011 dynamic or the sma8 , i love how the sma8 has a dedicated space for radiators separated from the main chamber that holds the motherboard board.
i also think support for a dual loop system would be ideal. especially when it comes to maintaining the system and not having to drain the entire loop just to have access to motherboard for component changes
another idea is having built in pass through fittings to the separate chambers, that would help with planning your tubing routes and keeping the main chamber clutter free, for good airflow , pass through fittings may also help with placing drain and fill ports for easier maintenance
hope this helps! and good luck jay!

Hi Jayz, late to seeing this video, but here's my twocents (pun intended).
    1. Support for 180/200mm fans (I like how quiet they are for the amount of air they can push through and there just aren't enough cases that embrace this)
    2. An angled front fan (something similar to what you would see in some older alienware cases, I always liked how they provide a strong cross current to the gpu)
    3. A built-in or accessory 3-point system for supporting GPU sag (they're so heavy these days that I just can't escape the worry of them breaking and lower fans sometimes limit what you can use)
    4. A built in fan hub (one of my favorite features of the Torrent)
    5. Higher Feet (something Steve commented on at one point was restriction to lower intake fans due to low feet in a lot of cases)
    6. To borrow from everyone else, a removable motherboard tray to make mounting and cable connection easier
You'll notice a lot of these have elements of or direct features of the Fractal Torrent - that's because it is hands down one of my favorite cases for air or water cooling. Your spin on their philosophy I think would make it shine even more.

With watercooling and also a straight airflow in mind, I would like to see a case that has room for a radiator in the top and bottom (with feet that are elevated enough from the ground to allow for enough air intake) and a third radiator in the front.
The one in the front would need to be shorter to allow for the fittings on top and bottom but the front spot would mainly be reserved for pump/res combos or a distro plate (maybe as an option for the case). This would require to have a PSU compartment in the back though but I like that since it also allows for any 3.5" or 2.5" drives in the back - maybe even with a drive sled.

I'm a big fan of side-by side, but I have plenty of desk space for my build. But I'm also a huge fan of the O11 Dynamic, as that's what I have my current build in. Nothing wrong with doing your own thing and what you like with your case design.

My biggest bugbear has always been that the space above the motherboard is not enough - even the heftiest cases can just about fit a 30mm rad and fans and it is a fight to get it in. The ideal case would have an 80mm space above the mobo so that you could mount a 50mm thick rad with up to 25mm thick fans.

I really like the Phanteks Enthoo Pro 2, because I like dust filters and a dual system setup. So I would make something like that with a few adjustments:
    1. Make the case taller so it can house thick radiators and 30 mm thick fans on the top while not obscuring the motherboard. Right now there is an overhang and some components on the motherboard became inaccessible after mounting the top rad. This would also allow the bottom fan mounting rack removable post installation of a 480mm rad in the front.
    2. Make the top of the case removable so the rad is easier to install.
    3. Make room for a second power supply so the case does not have to rely on specialized dual system power supplies.
    4. Make the case longer so it can house a thick radiator in the front as well with 30mm thick fans. Right now there is a limitation on thicker radiators if both top and front rads are thick.

3x140 front fans, 3x140 top or 3x140 bottom
Reversible psu layout for top and bottom mount options.
Optional placement for water cooling distro plate. Right after fans in front.
I prefer narrower and taller. Max 11” wide.
Case sizing like a full tower over a super tower
Price without fans under max $150, with fans $200.

I've always been a fan of the silverstone rotated board layout. Makes heat flow easier and also takes the pain off the gpu socket. My new Alta F2, my previous raven Rv01 and also the Rv02 and Rv05 have never given me the parts (gpu) failure I had from a standard designed Case.
